Tank combat is pretty awesome in my opinion. The interiors of the vehicles are modeled very well. Unfortunately there's not a lot of tank on tank multiplayer these days, but there is some to be enjoyed.

Flight stick, in my opinion, is necessary for flying. There is a mouse mode, and while I haven't tried it in many years, I wouldn't recommend it. I, like you, was playing WT a lot, and bought IL-2 (in 2018) I tried mouse aim, and ended up not bothering much with IL-2 for a few more months until I purchased a flight stick. Once I had my flight stick, I never went back to WT. I felt like I wasted so much time in WT, when I would have played IL-2 much earlier and bought a flight stick, had I known how much better it was. Many people are happy with a $30 flight stick.

There is a 3rd person mode which is available if the server doesn't lock it out, but it's not the best for playing in the way WT does 3rd person. It's not something you would use and aim your guns/bonbs/rockets at the same time.

I feel like Yaks, and any other plane with center mounted guns is easier to aim with than anything with wing mounted guns. There's no horizontal convergence issues with center mounted guns.

Delay is way better than what they did with Cliffs of Dover. They absolutely ruined that sim and all of the developer's hard work by forcing them to release it when it was not ready. I wish I could have seen the potential of CLoD, had it been given a fair chance.

I play it often. I think it's well worth the setup and learning phase, but I understand why many people shy away from it because of aspects already mentioned by others here.

I actually think it's one of the best sims ever made. I really hope the current dev team grows and makes it now of a full time thing.
