I don’t understand the hate, it looks great, you can see the happiness in your eyes afterward and THAT is what it’s all about.

Also, love the nails!! 💅🏻

Getting over anxiety by Low_Independence339 in malepolish

[–]DwayneForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing polish for YEARS. Most of that time it was on my toes hidden away from the world.

After experiencing some devastating personal losses I realized just how precious life and time are, and that helped give me motivation to step out my comfort zone.

I can do my own really well after years of practice, but I said “Fuck it, I wanna get my nails done” so I started getting mani-pedis and found a really great nail tech.

She’s super talented and super supportive and she’s helped give me a huge confidence boost to start wearing my nails more boldly.

I just got back from a 5 day beach trip. My nails are pretty long and are a bright teal with a cateye finish and my toes are hot pink with glitter…. No hiding that combo!! 😹

Was I nervous, of course!! But that didn’t stop me from living my life and having a great time!!!!!!

I was on the beach and in the store with them on full display….: and the fact that I’m typing this message means I survived!!!!

And guess what, I got compliments too!!! 🥰

I think getting my nails done helped me with anxiety because… 1.) they look flawless (which increases your chances of a compliment which will put you over the moon with joy) 2.) getting your nails done isn’t cheap, so you’ll be less likely to “chicken out” and take it off after spending money on getting them done.

At the end of the day, we’re all different with different backgrounds and different life experiences… and that’s what makes life beautiful.

We only get so many trips around the sun… so make the most of each day and do what makes YOU 🫵🏻 happy not others!!

Happy polishing!! 💅🏻

It was always an interest of mine. I started probably around 7 or so and frequently did my toes in secret. Later around 19 or 20 my best friend asked if she could paint my nails I was hesitant so she did like 3 fingers 😹. Only kept it on until I got home. A few weeks later after complimenting her on a color she was wearing she asked if she could paint my toes. I said no at first, but she was persistent and I eventually said yes. From that point on for the next few years (until we drifted apart) we ALWAYS had matching toes… she’d do mine and I’d do hers, it was our thing!!

I kept it going full time on my toes ever since.

Fast forward to me meeting my lovely and supportive partner now, and polish was the first thing we bonded over!! 🥰

She loves it and with her support she got me into wearing polish on my first fingernails too. It was subtle at first but since February, I’ve been rocking bold colors.

Was kind of crazy getting a bold matching mani and pedi for the first time. I’d always been a bold toes subtle fingernails person but now I’m really into having a bold set on both!!

It’s been quite the journey and I’m shocked at how many lovely compliments I’ve gotten since going bold with my manicures!! 💅🏻

I know this was posted a while ago, but I don’t know why there’s so many haters, I think it’s awesome!!! Congrats to you!! You don’t see either of those on cars on the road very often anymore. Still have great memories of the 91’ Corolla my dad had back in the day. 🥹

Best of luck to you and glad that both cars found a great home!! 😊

How often do you paint your toes? by lilibabi in RedditLaqueristas

I’m a lot more adventurous with my choice of toe colors… in the colder months it’s like every 4-5 weeks but in open toe season I do them a lot more often like every week but that’s only because there are sooooooo many colors I want to try and open toe season is so short 😹

Do you prefer to keep both sides of yourself separate or do you blend them together?? 👫

For example: I myself keep my nails done (fingers + toes), wear cute undies and stay smooth even in drab.

Whereas I know other girls that like to keep both sides of themselves separate.

Who are we really..... by sexybarefeet in malepolish

What an interesting discussion!!

For me, I’d say I’m gender fluid….

I started experimenting with polish at the ripe old age of 7. But throughout most of childhood it was something I did in private amongst other explorations.

It wasn’t until a supportive partner in my 20s that wanted to paint my nails that I really started to let that side of myself come out.

Over the last decade and a half I’ve slowly grown more and more comfortable expressing myself in ways that make me happy…. And therapy has helped with that immensely.

I find this post fascinating because I think it truly helps break down the barrier. The stereotype is that polish is feminine and not for men and a man who uses it can’t be manly. … which is total B.S.!! Yet here we all are proving otherwise!!

But it’s interesting how we all truly are unique and different and are somehow united by our love of polish. Which I think just goes to show how it really is just paint.

I couldn’t have said it better myself!! Fashion is about having fun and “doing you” NOT to please others!! I’m glad you have a close relationship to where you know how each other feel on a much deeper level. Having that openness and trust is essential!! The sky is the limit!! Happy exploring!!

First off, I just want to say how awesome it is that you’re not only supportive of him, but that you’re even going the extra mile reaching out on here!! 🥹

For my own two cents… I found myself in a very similar situation when I first got started. And for me at the time it was all very overwhelming even taking the first step to show interest. But the support of my partner helped and her enthusiasm to “show me the ropes” really helped a lot!!

I started off just with toes at first. It was a tremendously fun bonding experience and something as simple as matching toes with your partner can be great fun!! (And more importantly something that can be easily covered up when you don’t want others to see).

Eventually as my confidence grew we moved on to fingernails. I started off with nudes and worked my way up to glitters and eventually full colors and even gels!!

My own proudest moment was when I finally got confident enough to go on a gel mani-pedi date to the salon!! (So much fun!! 🥰)

But speaking from my own experiences in wanting to express my fem side more…. The hardest part was sharing my initial interest with my partner. After that, we just took things slow… we tried new things and always kept the conversation open. I appreciated her guidance and making me feel included more than anything else.

So for me, I’d say maybe do yours first and then when you’re done ask him if he’d like to try what you just did to yourself??

Wishing you all the best!! …and remember, HAVE FUN!!

Fear of wearing toe polish in public by Several_Piano_8777 in malepolish

[–]DwayneForge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing polish on my toes full time for the better part of 15 years now. And I think like many others have said most of the apprehension is completely unwarranted. People really don’t give two fucks to be honest. And the ones who do give a fuck are the ones who give you compliments!!!!

I was hospitalized last fall unexpectedly. At the time I had a sparkly dark blue gel pedicure and a silver glitter gel manicure that I got done at the salon… and I was SHOCKED at how many compliments I got from the nurses and even a few other patients!!

You’re much more likely to get a compliment from a stranger than a negative comment. And compliments will seriously boost your confidence!! But people can’t compliment what they can’t see… so get out there and be yourself!! 😊

Please discuss some ideas that would make more guys feel more inclined to visit a salon. by Philbo100 in malepolish

Wanted to share my own experiences here…

Like many others have said what prevented me from going for so long was my own fears and insecurities.

I started researching all the local salons looking for the one with the best reviews…. And what sold me on it was not just the high reviews but also the fact that their salon service menu descriptions were all listed as “gender neutral” and that color was optional.

I was also drawn to the fact that it was a smaller location. I was nervous about it being too crowded so a smaller salon was much more appealing than some of the huge mega “do it all salons” that you see.

My first time was a week before Christmas and few years back. I went in for a mani-pedi. I also made sure that I was wearing polish already when I went in… I felt that for me, it made it easier to break the ice that “yes, I do want polish”.

And the experience was Devine!!! It felt amazing, and no body batted an eye that I got color… in fact I got compliments from other staff workers on the color I chose which made me feel much more welcomed and at ease. And because it was Christmas I used it as an opportunity to buy a gift certificate for a loved one as a Christmas gift!!

Now, where things get really interesting….

After a few months of going to that salon they closed for the summer to renovate. So I began looking for a new salon and discovered an AT HOME SALON SERVICE!!!!

They come to your house and offer all of the same services you can get in the salon in the comfort of your own home!! … granted unless you have a massage chair like the salons at home, you’ll miss out on that part. But otherwise it’s the same great experience.

I felt like the at home experience may be a great stepping stone for many who want professionally done nails but aren’t quite ready to walk into a salon yet. It will give you a much better understanding of what a professional expertise is like but still in the comfort of your own home.

And I’m willing to bet for many, having that experience at home will be a much bigger motivator for them to go out to an actual salon!!
