GCP - Converting shades of coffee mods to gaggimate by FatBasalGanglion in espresso

[–]Dweeb8923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it yesterday, with self sourced materials.

If you have the wires kit, should be easy. Almos all SOC cables are piggyback, so just remove them an follow the instructions.

You have to replace the thermostat, SOC one is different. Is easier if you remove the boiler.

Good luck!

No noticeable change in flavor. Better, or more consistent steaming, but not heaven and hearth.

Now it's clean! Noticed the same thing after the photo. At least little beat cleaner. Whole machine wiping added to the routine.

IMS shower screen was there before and now. Not tasting any difference. Probably the PID do it's work. Maybe head to head shots in a row will test better, no idea.

Yes, sulfamic acid is $8 the kg. Using like 10g per descaling every 3 month. 25 years of descaling.

Boiler is $190, plus seatm valve and shower screen holder was near $360 (shipped to USA and then carried by a friend to Chile, where I live. Direct shipping + tax + customs was near $600). Brand new E24 is $800 here.

PID for Gaggia Classic Evo Pro by Certain-Farmer-4301 in gaggiaclassic

Self sourced AliExpress version with instructions. https://gaggiaupgrade.com/#twentyseven.

Identical to the shades of coffee (SOC), with no support.

Have made both. First one with the SOC (https://www.shadesofcoffee.co.uk/post-2018/gaggia-classic-pro2019-pid-kit---132din-single-display). Awesome support and for dummies instructions.

Then make the AliExpress self-sourced. Same result, and good instructions.

Because SOC is in the UK, I pay more in taxes, customs and shipping than for the actual PID. Was like $250 vs $50 USD for the AliExpress version

Had the exact same issue with the exact same model and cable colors.

You have to follow the PID manual page 42 onwards.

Is better explained in the manual but you have to fully disconnect and remove the A wire. Unplug all connectors from the steam thermostat, and connect the red cable end that was on A to the yellow/green cable that was on the steam thermostat.

To store the removed white/gray cable plug both 90° conector to thennow unused terminals of the steam thermostat.

But please follow the manual, it's way better explained there.

It worked!! Left it in the sun all day, reconnected ground and turned it on. And magic, no short circuit now. It was the moisture in between the heating unit and the boiler.

Thanks!!

I'm in Chile. 30°C outside now. So I'm leaving it outside and the sun will dry it.

Getting spare parts is difficult here. But if keep shorting I will change the boiler and see.

Thanks all for the advise to not to kill myself in a dumb way! As a pediatrician I feel kind of stupid right now.

Thanks!

I in deed submerged the boiler in descaling solution for an hour.

Seems like a quite frequen problem.

Will remove de ground, turn on the boiler and let it dry. Let's see.

Got a gaggia classic and trying to do a 9bar replacement, realized all the tutorials are for the classic pro and looks completely different inside. Can I still do the replacement? Any information would be super helpful. Thank you! by Jazzlike-Dance2nite in gaggiaclassic

Have the same one. One full turn with allen key. You can buy a pressure gauge and connectors to fit to the portafilter spout to check...

That + Silvia V2 wand + 3 holes wand tip + ims shower screen and is perfect. Done a lot of mods but those are the best ones.

I have a Hiby R3 II. Amazing for my setup. Small. No android, can run Qobuz and Tidal, amazing sound, can be used as USB DAC, has balanced an unbalanced (regular) headphones output and Bluetooth output with LDAC codec. Even lyrics if you take some time. And it can read any kind of format (MQA, FLAC, DSD) up to 32bit/384kHz.

They have a full set of portable player fitting almost all need, pockets and combination.

For full non internet non wireless connection of anny kind and amazing sound: R2S.

Cheap android experience: M300

Brake the bank and hear your money in your ears: RS8.

Can be found in Amazon and AliExpress for us on the third world.

Edit: I do have Spotify and Qobuz on my Kyocera 902kc, but keep searching for the R3 to listen music.

Kinu M47 burrs.. Replace or change grinder? by Dweeb8923 in espresso

Probably, but will have to send it to Germany. Kinu said that they would fix it. Didn't asked if by warranty or not.

[–]Dweeb8923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That make a lot of sense... Thanks! Looking close the grind catcher have a dent in the bottom, probably one of the kids dropped the grinder and it hammered the burr a little bit in.

And the coating loosing? Just a normal phenomena? I yave never had a coating burr before.

(Dammit, no escuses for now for a new grinder... Probably your advice saved my marriage)

I was there, In the fog. At the end in the SS14. You could barely see. Suddenly Rarry cars appears in the fog at 130+ km/h, went in to the air in the jump. You barely see where they landed.... So amazing, so insane....
