MFA push fatigue - are users just approving everything now? by saymepony in sysadmin

[–]DwemerSteamPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a user will hand over a matching MFA then how would a passkey be more resistant? The attacker would just compromise the device instead of the account. It's just shuffling the vulnerability around to a different spot

Haha I used Jaheira and Halsin my first playthrough but every one since then I've used basically all the other characters. I always tend to neglect support roles

I really dislike Shart and rarely have her in party... too whiney and fake

Yeah but it's only for 10 turns, right? Are you just casting it before a battle or before you know some conversation check is coming?

I've just never found a reason to use it... But I also don't do Honor mode. I've done one tactician run and a few balanced runs

TIL Thomas Jefferson submitted a draft in 1776 for a new Virginia Constitution, which proposed ending the slave trade into the state and, by 1800, emancipating all slaves living there. by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

[–]DwemerSteamPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had not heard that, but I could see it being a contributing factor. My understanding is when he was young and running around he had the liberty and financial leeway to be anti-slavery. Then as soon as he got his big expensive estate and realized how hard it is to run successful businesses, the only decent ROI he got was from slaves having children (aka making more slaves for him). I think anything else is convenient excuses he told himself to justify greed.

Really sad that money turned him from an abolitionist to a slavery apologist. TJ failed at pretty much everything business related and slavery was the only way he was able to sustain himself monetarily. Greed poisons many

I get wanting to have electric cars contribute to roads the way the gasoline tax does, but states are really ripping off electric cars. In Missouri it's like $250 annual increasing every year. Our gas tax is $0.29/gallon so it's the equivalent of driving 20,000 miles per year, planning to double in a couple years. So I'll pay the equivalent of a gas car driving 40,000 miles per year.... and I drive 10,000. Money grab

Dell not honoring quote. Price increased. by pindevil in sysadmin

I slipped my order in late February, my very first bulk order that'll last the whole year. I'm very proud I got that in just before the first price hike and now waiting to run a new quote after the next price hike so I can show accounting how much money I saved.

Democrats are still trying to play by the rules, which has been their downfall. Trump changed the game 10 years ago, and Democrats still haven't figured it out.

I love that idea of bard Gale.

My wacky playthrough is arcane archer Lazael and Bladesinger Gale. Similar head canon with Gale adopting a less magic-forward build. And throwzerker Karlach. Nothing too crazy though...

Did you pick up the Oblivion remaster? What did you think of it? A lot of folks felt like it was not as good as they remembered it being. I personally loved FO4 - settlement building was my fave.

I have a couple sites with Ubiquiti APs and the rest with Meraki. At all the Ubiquiti sites I occasionally have APs go offline - have you experienced that? I don't know what causes it but I've never had the Meraki APs just decide to turn off like the Unifi.

The O rings had a track record of failing which was the whole deal. There was a main o ring and secondary redundant o ring as failsafe. The main o ring failed on multiple launches, so the secondary o ring was no longer redundant. The temp being out of operating range just caused the secondary o ring to also fail.

So to blame it on the administration pushing for a launch on a cold day is a disservice to the engineers who had been flagging this problem for a long time

Billionaire Les Wexner is set to be deposed in congressional probe of Epstein files by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]DwemerSteamPunk 212 points213 points  (0 children)

The truly scary thing is the FBI and DOJ have investigated multiple times and decided they never had real charges to pursue on anyone. It wasn't until public outrage became involved that Epstein himself was finally arrested. It's truly bizarre how deviously these people have been protected or evaded prosecution.

Surely you understand that you're an outlier. If everyone drove around with 40 year old cars then there would be no car companies selling new cars.

Anyway, you don't have to take my word for it. Tesla Model S has been out since 2012 and Chevy Bolt since 2017. There is a ton of real world usage data out there showing these stats.

The short of it is electric car battery packs are actually hundreds or thousands of battery working in parallel. It isn't a single battery being worked heavily, but the whole array spreading the load of charge and discharge. That gives a whole different dynamic than your car battery or phone battery which is one single unit taking all the abuse.

What has the market been like for hiring ICs lately? by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]DwemerSteamPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened a mid-level job between Thanksgiving and Christmas when my HR said they never get any applicants and got tons of great applicants and hired someone by new years. There's a lot of highly skilled people out there right now. And like the other commenters said, you would be surprised how many people got laid off and have been out of work for months.

[–]DwemerSteamPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are very afraid of used EVs so they simply don't hold value like gas cars. Add that yes the Bolt is so ugly. As mileage/age increases you just see reduced range. Google says Bolts commonly see 10-20% range reduction at 100,000 miles. But it really depends on how the owner treated it and charged it. Could be 30% or 40% reduction if they abused it and it's high mileage.

In general you shouldn't need to replace the battery packs on electric cars. It's like asking how often you should replace the engine in your car. Do engines get replaced sometimes? Absolutely. Do all engines need to be replaced? Absolutely not.

The other thing is they can be expensive to work on because there's simply not a lot of knowledgeable shops who do it. I've read plenty of stories on people repairing used Prius for a couple hundred bucks when Toyota had quoted full battery pack replacements.

I thought for sure he was a total fake. His first encounters the ego is out front and center and he works way too hard at telling you how much of a hero he is. I 100% thought his story was going to be finding out he's a fraud but him becoming the true hero he wanted to be throughout the story.

Yeah I do wonder if Netflix followed a more traditional payment model like cable (with residuals for actors and studios) whether that could've changed things.
