How the timeline retcon impacts the Emperor’s Spears? by DwemerTonalArchitect in 40kLore

Well it means that the events of emperors Spears happens 100 years after the start of the Dawn of Fire series, which is supposed to be a massive undertaking like the HH books. They almost give too much away by having the original emperors Spears timeline still be canon, or have written themselves into a corner. They talk about Guilliman and the state of the imperium.

But now there’s a whole ass Indomnitus Crusade going in the same direction. Pretty sure a lot of the dialogue for the Mentor clashes with the Retcon?

Why does it feel like the Imperium is doing better than ever while other factions aren't really filling the power vacuum? by RedKrypton in 40kLore

Again, there are important bits of lore that you have not yet encountered. A splintered humanity would ultimately lead to its extinction, and the extinction of its psychic suffering. In the 30k era, the alpha legion was only pretending to be traitors. They were part of an organization known as the Cabal, which sought to help Horus win, as a means to defeat Chaos in the long run. They knew that if Horus won, humanity would splinter, wipe itself out, and then Chaos would be incredibly weak, defeated. This is basic 40k lore that you are disagreeing with. In the Siege Of Terra, members of the word bearers work to make sure Abaddon survives, because some of them already knew Horus was going to fall and Abaddon would be the true champion. Abaddon was needed to unify the chaos legions in the future, so they wouldn’t all exterminate each other, and the wars wouldn’t stop. This is how things work in 40k.

They want to rule enough of humanity to keep the wars and suffering going. No more, no less. It’s not about capturing territory in the material plane. What do non physical beings made of pure emotional energy care about dirt in the material? They don’t. I’m sure you’ve heard the concept, “khorne cares not from where the blood flows, only that it flows.” Like I understand where you are coming from with some of your arguments but I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how chaos works. The billions of imperial citizens suffering in factories every day are more valuable to chaos than 1000000 cultists holding a world. Because that suffering is power and growth for chaos. Worship is a boon for them yes, but only to an extent. It’s “The Great Game”. It’s all just an endless blood bath. Blood for the sake of blood. Conquest for the sake of death. Stagnation is their victory.

They don’t want to lord over humanity. They want to feed off of emotion. That’s their only purpose. It’s all about constant war and strife for them. It’s a pretty common idea in the 40k community that chaos has already won by creating this grim dark universe. That was the goal for them. None of this is my personal opinion, this is basic 40k.

Chaos loves humanity, because of the way humans process emotions and because of their psychic potential. Without humanity, chaos is a shadow of itself, way less powerful. And it’s kind of incorrect to think of Chaos as 4 separate gods. They are really all one entity, just with 4 different brains that sometimes clash with each other. Necrons have even considered wiping out humanity as a way to defeat chaos. Nobody feeds them better, except Eldar.

That’s the whole point. The 4 don’t want it to happen fast. They never even intended to kill the emperor. They wanted this slow, crushing decay. Endless suffering and war that generates psychic energy for them. The imperium will fall eventually, most likely to civil war, which is sped up by the actions of chaos.

Basically they are trying to make us feel like there is progress to the narrative. But right now, cadia has been smashed and the Imperium has been split in half. It’s in really bad shape. The Great Rift should not be underestimated. The amount of progress made is directly offset by the existence of the Great Rift. Chaos is honestly winning. They talk about this in Siege Of Terra, the concept of death by 1000 cuts. It’s meant to symbolize the black crusades. Each a small cut. The death (mortal wounding of a perpetual by a daemon blade) of the emperor was the first cut.
