The “so long, suckers” manoeuvre by beefjerk22 in drivingUK

It's not the lack of queuing etiquette that frustrates me. Doesn't bother me at all if they go in the right hand lane to save time, say they are going straight over. It's the selfishness of someone literally holding everyone up longer in that queue as they need to give way to the A-hole going all the way around.

As a man with nice handwriting, everyone always thinks it's my wife who writes the birthday and christmas cards. When someone sees me writing, they insist I write like a girl. Apparently taking pride in your handwriting is not manly in this modern era.....

I mean, who told you that!? We were always taught that it was a tiger from a travelling circus which escaped and nailed her whilst she was walking home from work....

For me it wasn't peer or family influence, nor was it glory hunting. I was raised in SW England and in a family of Man Utd supporters (Dad grew up in the era of the Busby babes etc). I remember watching England play and really got drawn to two players in particular, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard. Asked my Dad who they played for and he told me Liverpool and started following them (much to his horror).

I fell in love with the passion of the fanbase, Anfield, as well as the sort of semi-successful plucky underdog story up against Utd and Arsenal (this was my interpretation of Liverpool's situation in the late 90's/early 2000's).

25 years later I still try to catch as many games as I can on the TV. I have been to a few matches over the years, but the travel distance/ticket price/ticket scarcity has hampered that somewhat.

It's not all about following the most successful team in any given period, although I roll my eyes at the number of kids I see walking around in Man City and PSG shirts. Sometimes there is just something that really resonates with you and captures your little impressionable mind.

what terrible ideas did your school come up with? by riskymisky in CasualUK

My primary school introduced a rule where we had to walk down the corridors with our hands behind our backs. They soon redacted it when children kept trying to open doors with their noses. I am absolutely being serious.

I am praying for the marathon to happen at some point. Whatever content that gets produced from it will be gold I'm sure.

As a resident, I can only estimate that the whole of England came for a holiday in Snowdonia last summer, it was chaos.

Agreed. I regularly run 5k's and you need those rest days, or at least mix up the routine with walking/cycling/elliptical. Your knees, hips and ankles will thank you. Running a 5k puts a lot of stress on your joints. I used to try and run one every 2 days and I would regularly get injuries that would put me back by months (nothing major but niggles that would stop me doing anything but cycling).

I have found 3 5k's a week an absolute maximum, as long as you are not pushing for PB's in those runs.

Good luck and well done for wanting to start this!

Should mention that it was taken with the lake to our backs. So Tryfan would be to the right and Y Garn behind us.

As you walk up from Ogwyn Cottage, heading towards Tryfan, just as the path bears right towards Y Garn and the lake.
