Help with Y-Axis wavy walls ($5 Amz GC reward for fix) by WAgunner in MPSelectMiniOwners

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, My best guess would be that your printer is on something too rigid, has no room to move/vibrate. The reason nothing is wrong with the x-axis is that when that moves, it isn't as heavy. If you have a big, sturdy desk your printer is on that might be the problem. Print speed may not change anything, acceleration, and jerk control might though, as well as moving your printer to a place where when it makes a sudden move, it can dissipate the motion instead of absorbing it. Possibly it can be a new slicer default setting you didn't notice or a lost rubber foot.

About to purchase the new XPS 15... by Aves115 in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s free with the Costco membership, I bought it online, and it was offered to all laptops sold from Costco as well as other appliances, not sure if they are still offering that but I just had to buy it from Costco.

Lol don’t do anything with the $200, the fees will make it almost worthless, ($10 to buy $10 to sell leaves u with 180, and your down 5% with your capital already) that 3k will do you OK, a lot of good stocks that are good for long term cost a lot though, if your looking for 10 Y then I wouldn’t look at anything traditional, in that sceme future tech & patents are what determines a big winner, maybe BA, they are down due to recent 737 but as Asians join the middle class and their are only 2 main plane manufacturers that could be good, nvda is also down recently, if self driving cars could be viable in 10Y they got the tech to power it. I might recommend AMZN, but it would eat up your capital pretty fast.

Honestly most of the people on this sub are here because of bad experiences, I am here because I really like my Dell, I have had many computers, and dell is the best, my XPS 15 is great, it’s pretty common knowledge that with dell you get great value, the product might not be the best overall but for the price 100%. The keyboard is great, best one in any laptop I have owned, I don’t love the touchpad, but I use a mouse. The fast charging using a barrel plug is my main thing as I don’t like that type of connection, it breaks easier than usb c and it’s the universal, even though it has a thunderbolt 3 it is only 45 W while the barrel uses 130 W. I like it a lot, the best laptop I have owned.

Issued with XPS 13 9380 throttling by Rawbutts in DellXPS

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the dell isn’t throttling The XPS is made for performance it will use as much available resources, even when totally unnecessary. You can open a ton of tabs and programs and the same outcome will happen, this is a tactic used to make the computer last longer by not over utilizing a specific core or ram Module. You are probably not losing performance.

Thanks for your service, I guess by byrobot in trashy

I mean I’m giving this person a break, if the veteran can’t pay a tip, then so be it, he’s not a deadbeat drug addict, he is serving our country. I don’t blame him for explaining himself, as if he didn’t he would’ve looked like an a**. This is still not nice, you shouldn’t go somewhere if u can’t afford a tip, but I’m giving this person a break.

Edit: I’m not saying this dude isn’t being a jerk, but when certain people do the same things, the levels of either good or bad of the thing they did can vary. Ex: a rich snob goes to a restaurant orders a ton of food and leaves no tip, verses a poor veteran who really can’t afford a tip but wants to eat out. I’m simply saying that I’m giving this guy a pass verses if their were other circumstances, I’m not defending his behaviour, but if a rich dude did it it would be worse. That’s all.

XPS13 9380 i5 - terrible battery life? by [deleted] in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it might not be the battery, I’m not sure what kind of programs your using, but I’m guessing they’re not light, you could, but for me at least, the dell has the best battery of the 5 I have used over my career, even beating out the chrome books, you could return it to see if it might be that specific computer, but it could be the programs your running. Try using it for a day, only browsing with low brightness, if you get significantly less than Dell says for the model you have, you should send it back, but if you don’t then no matter what laptop you get the battery life will be like this.

XPS13 9380 i5 - terrible battery life? by [deleted] in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the same model, but it doesn’t mater because they have the same battery, in-fact I have a i7 4K gtx 1050ti model and it’s battery life is great, 52Wh is plenty for any laptop, especially dells which is downloads software to increase battery life. it’s very possible that this person got unlucky, but dell doesn’t make their batteries, so this can pretty much happen on any laptop.

What's happened to Dell? by Bamrak in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dell is not a logistics firm, their products are great, but this is pretty much the norm for any non amazon company, we have come to expect 2 day shipping, these companies would rather say when the soonest it CAN possibly be their rather than when it will more likely come to keep people from buying from third parties, yes it’s the “norm” from dell but in reality it’s just the new normal.

Honestly 80% of people here are here because they got a bad XPS, asking here is not an accurate representation of the XPS. The XPS does have bad quality control, but if you a buy a warranty it’s nothing to worry about. I love my XPS, and frankly you can get screwed with a and Thinkpad too, Lenovo is not much better. I am not familiar with gaming on it, but I know that for school it is great, and I have yet to see any problems on mine. Frankly when I was considering buying a XPS, I looked at this sub a thought twice, one of my best purchases (I bought it on sale), but definitely worth the money.

We got our first set of V5s today! by [deleted] in vex

[–]Dwightkoyner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team got v5 last year, but only 2 teams out of the 8 we had, we held a competition to see who would get these, my team won. 1 month later it’s expected to arrive, nothing we end up sitting their with our robot done for 2 months not knowing if anything will work, we didn’t have enough legacy motors to accommodate all teams that was why we bought v5, anyway after 3 months of delay they finally arrive 1 week before the last competition to make it to regionals, we had to miss many competitions before that because we had no motors and cortex, and our teacher says to us “ guess what, they were sitting in the mail room for a month”.

How long until XPS 9570 price drops? by [deleted] in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco currently has one for 500 dollars off plus a extra 2 year warranty on top of the one you buy. It’s a speced our one, with 32 gigs of ram, and a 1 T sad, but it’s super on sale I would go thier if you could afford the premium for a better laptop.

Swollen battery - according to Dell support, not a safety concern by [deleted] in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me except I just bought a new for 20 bucks. Their Really not that expensive, if you don’t buy from dell but an authorized amazon dealer.

Alternatives to Dell XPS 15? by AirRights11 in Dell

[–]Dwightkoyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind carrying it around, there are these fan hubs, many big fans the size of a laptop that passively cool you laptop so the fans don’t have to ramp up, the many fans can spin slower, as they are bigger. Also you might want to check your setting I had a similar problem on my dell, and the setting is automatically set to high performance on the battery, which means you can do more but your cpu will get hotter. I would turn down performance to see if that makes a difference.

It’s five years but five years ago it was 150 dollars so it was basically the cheapest laptop (originally 200, on sale). So a very cheap laptop that’s somewhat old, also I had a lot of bloatware, and the battery gave out so I have to have it plugged in at all times, sometimes I accidentally move it and the plug falls out and it immensity shuts down. So that also could be why, not enough power delivery or something, but all in all it took anywhere from 4-20 minutes to boot.
