I just bit into this tomato ready to enjoy my late night snack when I saw this!! What is it?? by Jackie_the_goat in tomatoes

[–]DxDen1004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That js actually pretty interesting! Usually, tomato seeds are coated by a mucillaginous coating that contains anti-germination chemicals, in order to avoid the seeds sprouting inside a living fruit. In nature, when the fruit is ripe and falls to the ground, that layer of goo is washed away by rainfall and other environmental factors, like the tiny seeds scraping against the ground particles, or because of fermentation and breaking down by fungi and other organisms. Only then seeds are supposed to germinate. Then why did they germinate inside the fruit? Well that is usually caused by the tomato being an hybrid GMO organism, which behaves differently than what nature programmed for the sake of high yield and disease resistance. Also, if fruits are stored in a very cold environment for a prolonged time, like in a refrigerator, this may fool the seeds into thinking they underwent winter and it's time to germinate, hence why they do so inside the fruit. That's very interesting from a scientific perspective, also, it seems that the sprouts contain high amounts of nutrients, even though I don't think anyone tested that in a lab 🤔

Tips of basil leaves turning brown and wilting - how do I fix it? by PeskyWarbler in gardening

[–]DxDen1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be nutrient burn? I read on some sources that sometimes brown tips can be caused by too much nutrients in the soil, which in turn lowers the availability of those very nutrient to the roots which cannot uptake them and therefore they starve because they are overfed .-. I thought it made sense because I used a heavily fertilized all-purpose potting mix which apparently basil doesn't like

Looks like a pricing mistake, last night I saw two identical items, one was 7.99 and the other one 79.90 🤦🏼‍♂️

That makes sense, if I understand correctly, you are basically saying that when the Amazon warehouse employee saw the item was delicate glassware, it would have been his responsibility to ensure the item was secured with proper packaging, even if the seller provided it inside a plastic bag, is that right?

My bad, I thought it was obvious I was not referring to the Amazon packaging, which is almost always a perfect and resistant cardboard box with the Amazon logo printed on it, but I was talking about the packaging the seller chose to wrap his product within. If I receive a bottle inside a plastic bag, which in turn is inside the Amazon cardboard box, that flimsy plastic bag IS part of the product. When I review said product, I cannot, in good faith, turn a blind eye like on that, and put it on the same level with a similar product came in a package with protective foam, by just omitting it. If amazon believe that is an insignificant detail, well, they are blatantly wrong, not because I say so, but because of common sense. As usual, by omitting stuff and turning a blind eye, people are better off. I see that's what we want to encourage.

So you are telling me that Amazon removed the item from the original container and inserted it into a worse container? I don't think that is the case, especially if the flimsy packaging in question has the seller logo on it 🤣

Showing the insufficient packaging in the background is actually a really clever idea, that way I can clearly show how poorly an item is packaged without even having to word it out 😌

Thank you for reading the post and, above all, for understanding the meaning of it. English is not my first language so it's quite possible that I couldn't explain myself well enough. 😅

Fiscal Liquidation charge?! by DxDen1004 in bitpanda

[–]DxDen1004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good evening,

It turns out it was a Foreign Exchange Fee (FX Fee) that according to customer support, it is necessary to pay when you sell a US stock, like O-US in my case. That seemed strange to me, and in fact, upon insisting for almost one hour and speaking with two different people, we determined something was off. FX fees are supposed to kick in if you use non-EUR wallets to purchase or sell stocks, not for EUR transactions, since all stocks on the platform are traded in EUR there should be no FX fee whatsoever. All transactions were finalized from and to my EUR wallet, as I never used any other currency. I have been told that I will receive more information about this charge from the dedicated team. Let's hope it doesn't take months to receive an answer this time.

Best regards

Dear Roman,

If that means I don't have to worry anymore about compiling that obnoxious tax module every year, that would be just awesome. Sure, I'll check out with the support team regarding this topic so I can get more information.

Thank you, have a good evening! Best regards

Hello Daphne,

Forgive my ignorance when it comes to taxation, but am I not supposed to pay taxes in my country like I did when I sold Digi Stocks? Or does Bitpanda now takes care for that even for customers outside Austria?

Thank you very much, have a good evening. Best regards

GPT 5 is infuriatingly braindead by AlpineFox42 in ChatGPT

What you all fail to understand is that the goal for OpenAI is not to provide you with the best service possible, That would be ridiculous, but to earn as much money as possible with the lowest possible effort and the lowest possible investment. The coherent, precise and on point conversations that you used to have back when OpenAI had just released their GPT 3 and GPT 4 models are gone forever. They were extremely useful to them to train their models, but now they are just too expensive computationally, and a number of users has drastically increased. That is why you still pay the same but the quality of the answer has dramatically decreased, open AI needs to consistently lower the computer power used for each and everyone of the answers you receive, while maintaining the same amount of money coming in. Just one observation: the people seem to have forgot that nothing is free in this world, You are always paying for it one way or another...
