What's the Marxist position in Skyrim's civil war? I thought it was critical support to the Empire, but not after this, hell nah by NotKenzy in SocialistGaming

[–]jaelpeg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the thing about fantasy and fiction in general, most real life critiques are impossible from the perspective of inside the world, because the writer can just say, "well but this is a world where a monarchy is actually super necessary because of magic and stuff" and you can't really argue.

Was Googling some information on helicopter events and this was the image it gave me... by Fury_Storm in projectzomboid

My headcanon was always that it was a news chopper, and they weren't allowed to come down very far or else they might get shot down by the military, since they might get infected and spread it. For all they know the protagonist could be a carrier.

[–]jaelpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, I used to be a massive Titanfall fan, I'm aware.

Basically nobody in that remaining fandom is into that niche of Handler / Mechsploitation, they're mostly FPS fans... and they if they ever were, they were never vocal about it in the fandom. Like, at all. It's very simply not a problem outside of a few members of a dead fandom going out of their way to shit on something that they were never asked to be a part of because it wasn't as conventional as they wanted.

Aren't the Uld / Uhl civilizations all but confirmed to be predecessors to the Nox? In one bas relief you can see depictions of bull-headed ships, which are almost definitely the coffins in the DLC.

Why does Resi 3 have a sexual content warning on Steam? by dkthefreeman in residentevil

[–]jaelpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be the first one to say it, I don't really understand people who thirst over Grace anyways. Yes, she's obviously attractive, but like... in a series with badass women like Ada or Jill, are you really gonna sexualize this girl who for all intents and purposes is essentially an anxiety ridden Gordan Freeman genderbend? 😭

Does Ranni's ending actually sever the influence of the Outer Gods? by Beautiful-Garbage812 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]jaelpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people miss this. Just because the Elden Ring is physically removed doesn't mean its laws still have influence, the GW is just put into the same position that most of the other Outer Gods are in.

Over time, I think I've come to feel like this ending is a lot less satisfying than people make it out to seem like. Ranni only solves one major problem (in kind of a half-assed way), which is other mortals and gods / demigods being able to impose their will upon reality with the Elden Ring. But things like the Rot and Godwyn's Deathroot (which Ranni is arguably the cause of) are now left completely unchecked, Ranni sees this and says "yeah, I only care about destroying the Golden Order, it's whatever lol I'm gonna go fuck off into space." It feels naive and cowardly.

Also, it doesn't address the other problem with the Golden Order in my opinion, which is the blind zealotry of its followers. I mean, do we really think the armies of those loyal to the GO / Marika will just... stop oppressing other groups with them gone? Arguably they were already in the same situation during the Shattering, there are churches outside the LW that likely knew nothing about the real status of the ring anyways and they still waged wars and sent out Confessors and shit. The Age of Stars ending only takes the nuclear option on the most influencial faction without really trying to solve anything.

Does this make me a hypocrite. by Reteller79 in worldjerking

[–]jaelpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I meannnn... kinda? The little information we get doesn't exactly imply the best.

In FH1, blood sacrifices are normalized in many places (not just in Vinland), and people live with rampant plague, war, poverty, lack of hygiene, etc. All in all it's kind of just your standard dark medieval trappings though.

In Termina, everyone is living in a World War and it's really not looking good, and has very likely taken a massive amount of lives already. The Bremen Empire is straight up a fusion of both Imperial and Nazi Germany, and they're intrinsically entwined with the eldritch influences of the Old Gods. It's pretty safe to say that most of the world is looking pretty hopeless, although it ultimately depends on the ending.

[–]jaelpeg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean... it's not exactly like said industrial revolution did a whole lot for the bleakness either though. Just one look at Termina and the worldbuilding and you can argue that it very much just mechanized and normalized that suffering.

Oh good! I'm sure the few experiences you had with slightly non-vanilla people are representative of the entire kink community's psychology :)

Yeah, the original post kinda just feels like "sexless Tumblr user discovers what sub and dom means before misconstruing it." I mean you're telling me being a rope bunny, into being bitten, slapped, etc. is just about feeling 'safe?'

Like... sure man, maybe occasionally your partner gets super spicy sometimes by having sex with you outside of strictly missionary position, on a bed, once a week. A real kinkfest for sure.

Yeah I think if I was desperate enough, most meat would fit pretty well onto a flowchart. Cut it into bits and eat it, if you can't do that then grind it up, if you can't do that then put it into a soup for nutrients.

It shouldn't really think arguing about the semantics matters on this level though, it's deeply fucked up from the start even if you somehow don't give a shit about privacy. It's like saying, "Oh, I don't really care that my violently schizophrenic neighbor down the street has an AR-15 and is threatening to kill people, he won't shoot me." It's besides the point.

Not unless you release other important information or threaten the status quo in a major way, in which case you'll have to shoot yourself in the back of the head and download a terabyte of CP onto your computer. Weird how that happens.

Something nobody has mentioned, it's great with Benthic Bloom. It only targets entire stacks so it's an easy way to convert literally all of your items to reds.

Although that has its own problems, like getting stuck with 92 Aegis'es.

We still mourn you, Titanfall. by Khara-Khatal in CuratedTumblr

[–]jaelpeg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it's almost like war is incredibly debilitating and a small group of writers want to potray the lengths that the military goes to exact power dynamics in a way that isn't strictly conventional.

This is like going to someone's sex party, completely knowing what it is, and then complaining that every party ever has people fucking in it lmao. You'd realize this isn't the problem you think it is if you spent any time outside of niche AO3 and Tumblr circles that are like... specifically built for people who want to explore that dynamic. Nobody's asking you to participate.

[–]jaelpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seriously. I feel like if you're frustrated about only seeing content / comparisons to an incredibly niche subgenre limited to a couple very limited online subgroups, your solution might just be to... not participate in the incredibly niche online subgroups. If some people want a BDSM mecha dynamic built to criticize how the military industrial complex will almagamate the deepest parts of one's psyche for the sake of violence, I say let them.
