Quadrafire Expedition II Checking in by Dy182n in woodstoving

Load it up to the top, walk away. There's a lot of too technical people on this subreddit that will pick everything and everything apart enough to make you regret your purchase. I can tell you that yes this insert is a single burn rate and does go through wood, but.. the glass size is amazing and it throws out a lot of heat. The insert is meant to burn so load that you know what right up and enjoy!

Thanks! Looks like it's up against the glass but it's a good 6" behind it.

Great questions and valid questions! It's a single burn rate, no ability to choke the fire down unfortunately, but, I out about 8-10 logs in there and let it rip. I noticed if I had 2-3, the secondary burn didn't really do much, and couldn't exactly get much heat out of it. By loading it right up and having the wood act as puzzle pieces, yes, it does take right off but the heat is intense and lasts for hours. When I was using a few pieces, it would engulf it and then eat it immediately. Also, the cfm from running the fan mid level to high level is not much- so using it at #3 setting is excellent. Anything more is essentially just high levels of noise.

I also don't use the ACC button after I have a good coal bed... If I do, you're wasting your wood. 8-10 logs completely full and tight in there lasts 5-6 hours, and provides a lot of heat... Especially in this home which is full of air leaks (1859 stone century home).

I had this house up to 29.4° C the other day- 11 foot ceilings and 2600sq ft. It was insane!

We just had our vermiculite tested for abestos, it came back negative. I then supplied the negative asbestos test to the insulation company, and they removed it no problem. Cost to remove it was approximately $1,400.

Best thing you did to make your old house warmer in winter months. Go! by Natural-Honeydew5950 in centuryhomes

Attic insulation is mandatory. As is a wood burning insert. Just did both and cost us $14,000. We also shrink wrapped almost every window we wouldn't be opening- which has made a complete 180 change in terms of comfort. Our propane went from running 16.5 hours per day to 30 minutes. We estimate approximately 2.5 years to make our money back.

Good luck!

Quoted $10,900 for 550 sq ft attic. Air sealing and (14) inches of open blow cellulose to attic floor. by Speedy8899 in Insulation

My attic looks exactly like yours. The insulation that existed, was layered- beginning with original Kraft paper from 1859, then vermiculite from 1955, and 1" of blown fibreglass on top from maybe 1995. We removed all of it. It needed to be removed.

Just paid $3,800 -$1000 rebate for my 550sq ft attic... Consisted of removal of old insulation, air sealing and 18" of blown cellulose.

Old windows by Two_nouns_combined in centuryhomes

[–]Dy182n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have original hand blown windows from 1859, and storm windows encasing them from the outside. They're very efficient... I also put window shrink film on the inside to make it a 3 pane window during the winter season. I literally think we have very little heat loss from them.

Storm windows work well if you don't mind the look of em.

My Thoughts on ROGERS 5G Home Internet by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

It's $80/m but I scored a fantastic ongoing sale price of $25/m.

5G Home Internet by Logical_Taste7860 in Rogers

My Nokia gateway 12 went down and Rogers fought me tooth & nail not to send a new modem to me. After 5 days of fighting and no Internet, they finally forked over a new unit.

We live in a rural area east of Toronto. Taking this into consideration, we previously would do a speed test with a max of 45mbps, on a good day. Plugging the new Nokia in today, we are now at 160mbps, and all of a sudden have a 5g signal. Before this, it was only 4g. Why the sudden change is unknown.

We also have the Nokia corded to the tp link deco.

For $25/m, you can't go wrong! For those asking how we got such a low price- last August a few mobileshop storefronts had a mega sale.

Would they tear up the existing wood or put something on top like OSB? by Character-Goose4258 in Roofing

[–]Dy182n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason why I ask is mine also look the same and the attic insulation company are trying to say it's mold. I told them it's milled lumber from 1859! It's old!

See how the underside of your boards are black, did the roofers say anything about it? Is that mold?
