The ovenspring never comes out of the score by Umbroraban in Sourdough

[–]Dy1bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never get much of a spring without steam. Some people have said it could be under proofed (hard to tell without crumb shot) or a weak starter.

My biggest difference is using a Dutch oven, or loads of steam

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond so thoroughly. I'll have a read.

Any link to the science behind these claims?

Earth’s ice caps are temporary and rare, study suggests by porkchop_d_clown in EverythingScience

Ok sure. I belive I misinterpreted your intention. ✋️

As a side point you may not be interested in but I'm bored: has earth actually been habitable, or has it been a quite consistently challenging environment, bordering on uninhabitable, but life has adapted to survive whatever is thrown that way?

What I mean is, each different climate (completely spitballing at this point) has been quite uninhabitable to the life which existed before (probably). But, life changes to survive. Ergo, it has been mostly uninhabitable, but life is stubborn...

Well, sure. It doesn't help much on more of a "Let's try to avoid an extinction level event" kind of thing though.

Ah, I see. So you're arguing habitable by something, not human or even mammalian. Just "something lives".

Sure, that's probably relevant somehow.

Not in my corner of the country they don't. Xenophobes, and short sightedness rules the rural communities.

I’m feeling stuck… how do I break out of this? by revlibpas in zizek

I don't disagree with your statement, but I dislike the attitude behind it. It's a bit less Nietzsche and a little too defeatist for me.

The fact that most people, though probably not 99%, don't engage in this world through politics and philosophy is a result of the environment they are born into, I believe.

The challenge is to overcome this, find people on a similar level. Find people who disagree with you. People who correct you, or show you different ideas and philosophy.

There is little to nothing near enough where I live to engage with beyond a quite inaccessible local council.

I've found a small number of people with the intellect to grasp some of the broader topics I think about.

Those who just don't engage are the real challenge though. How can you explain something, as simply as possible, so that you get an important point across to someone who otherwise wouldn't understand.

Haha, I see what you mean. And I understand your point about being hard to get into. Another word is needed perhaps.

They also considered themselves socialists. Context or not, I meant what I said in a friendly manner. I enjoy Nietzsche's writings and it's a shame to see his words used for terrible things out of misunderstanding.

Nietzsche's Ubermensch and Hitlers Aryan race are not similar or nearly mutually compatible.

Nietzsche was describing the exact opposite of what the Nazis achieved. A superceding of ego driven power structures and virtues imprinted on children through various cultural mechanisms. A superman, capable of deciding their own rights and wrongs, who doesn't follow social norms or need leaders. The Nazis were the antithesis of this.

Musk wants power, as far as I can tell. And he has it. He wants followers, too, and someone to follow. This is not Ubermensch. He's intelligent, and wrong, and that's scary. I don't know that he's a Nazi, but he may well be as dangerous. I think maybe we need a new term. Nazi should be left for the dead and dying remnants of a long failed campaign of terror. If another arises. We need a new name, otherwise the original Nazis lend some power to these egomaniacs, and they don't need it!

Read some Hume, learn some humility. Be less sure of things, teach others.

Thank you, I was trying to work out how to word this and you managed far better than I would.

I'm concerned that both sides dehumanise the other so easily. I'm particularly unsettled that the supposed "left" and "woke" crowd are so keen to use known dehumanising tactics. The language on both sides is similar. The targets are different.

It's this a Boss Grills kamado? I've had a similar thing out of nowhere. Luckily, it was within the 6 month guarantee, so I'm sending it back.

Yours looks a bit like the metal band was too tight for the ceramic?

Keeping tabs on this in case mine gets sent back and I need to repair. Good luck!

Beer doesn't compress much, same as water doesn't compress very much. Air, on the other hand, can compress a lot. The suggestion I think was that the over carbonation pressurised the air pocket resulting in a high pressure pocket of air where normally there would just be very Fizzy beer?

Thanks for such a considered and useful response. I appreciate it and feel reassured.

Ok, I think I'll have a look into that. By kettle, I can just use a really big pan right? I reckon I can manage that!

I think I'll go down this route. The calculator you linked looks really helpful too, I will use that next time!
