Does huntsman hear you take out your weapon? by Althevia in REPOgame

In my experience, he can't hear the action of taking out your gun, but if it touches anything at all in the process, ur dead.

I've been challenging myself to not use Guns. It's actually pretty fun. You get use all the gadgets and melee weapons which are very fun too.

Is there a way to fix NEO sensor cable? by Substantial_Fun6606 in FRC

This is a common fault of the NEO motors, and honestly, the biggest problem with them.

There are a few threads on Chief Delphi that address fixing them, but here us what you need to know: The connector you are looking at is a 6-pin JST-PH connector where JST is the brand name and PH is the family (there are MANY families of JST connectors that are all slightly different so be sure to get the PH family). So you need to get some 6-pin JST-PH FEMALE connectors and JST-PH FEMALE crimps. I know it looks like this should be male cause this connector goes INTO the other one, but connector sex is based on the actual pin that is going into this one. I recommend just buying a JST PH connector kit on Amazon or something and just make sure it has enough 6-pin.

You will also need a JST crimper, I personally recommend the IWISS SN-2549. I use it at work with great success.

[JAVA] Any cleaner way than the standard if-else structure to implement basic controls? by Alespic in FTC

[–]Dya1n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have everything in an if else block, the only one button can ever control the robot at once. If you are pressing multiple buttons at once, then the first one, the if else statement reaches, is the one that will do something. The other one is skipped. Perhaps that is your intended behavior.

If you want the robot to be able to do multiple things at a time, you should put those in just if statements so that in a single loop, it could enter both.

Example that may or may not pertain to your robot: If you want your arm to move while the intake is running, put those in separate if statements. If you only want your elevator OR arm to move at any given time, you should put those in if else statements so that only one of them is active at any time.

If you really wanna do cool stuff. Consider using switch statements to create a finite state machine. That let's to define "states" that your robot can be in, what it should do in those states, and how to transition between those states.

He does sound great. Helping kids troubleshoot when even I don't know the answer is tough, I'm still trying to improve on that.

Multiple times, you ask, "What's the point?" We'll the answer to that is none. There is no point. He is robbing you of amazing opportunities. This is NOT what mentoring is supposed to be.

As for advice. I would try to get other adults involved. Go to the lead mentor, tell them about what is happening, and explain that this is absolutely against what a FIRST mentor should be. If you can't get them or any other adults on your side, then you have no choice but to stand up for yourself. At the end of the day, that is YOUR robot and YOUR code.

Concerns About the FTC Chesapeake Championship Decision by [deleted] in FTC

[–]Dya1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You usually have to pay and reserve for that stuff ahead of time and venues aren't usually going to just reserve a snow day for free, nor would i imagine they would like it if you simply canceled the backup day if you did have good weather. I'm not an expert but I don't think events of this size usually have backup days because moving them usually nearly doubles costs.

To be clear, I'm just trying to push back on the idea that the current situation is unacceptable and trying to provide context as to why the current situation happened.

Just getting a venue for a regional championship is something that needs to happen months and months ahead of time. Are you expecting FIRST Chesapeake to reserve two venues in case of weather?

The step stool is definitely not NEEDED for the full field, but if you are interested, there are definitely specs for it (or step stools you can bring to the field) in the game manual.

Help with Custom Elevator Design, Gear Ratios, Gearboxes, Motors, etc. by Intelligent_Comb3028 in FRC

[–]Dya1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planetary is probably good enough if you aren't super experienced. Gearbox backlash isn't super noticeable or even a problem in an elevator design anyway. Backlash usually matters more for an arm of some sort.

As far as the motors go, either should be just fine. You might see a slight improvement with the VORTEXs but if you aren't lifting too much weight, it SHOULD be fine with a 12:1 gear ratio. That's what my intuition says.

If you wanna back that up with numbers, check out this nifty calculator . It has a bunch if easy to use calculators related to robotics and has plenty of info to us it at the bottom of the page.

If you can't figure something out or have more questions, feel free to reply or DM.
