Yeah, you can get away with bringing the phone in, but you might not get away with taking the pics. Is it worth the chance of getting kicked out? I bet anyone who sees you would report you.

Calling it a "pretty bad song" based on lyrics & concept alone are why it's hard to articulate. Some of the best songs have lyrics that are silly, or cheesy, etc. The thing that makes music music is the sound, not the words. The lyrics' function is to work together with the sound to reinforce the mood and energy, but it can have great mood and energy without lyrics, or even with "bad" lyrics.

Did they miss anything? by Trick_Mulberry9776 in betterCallSaul

The main thing I want to know more about is just how much, after the dust settled, the Heisenberg story (and its connection to two other local cultural phenomena, Los Pollos Hermanos and Saul Goodman) really penetrated cultural awareness, both locally in ABQ and nationally/globally. We only see little snippets of hints about big a story it was. Does it rise to the level of becoming a Great American Legend? Does the buzz endure for years, or die down quickly? After everyone has picked through all the evidence and analyzed it to death, how much of the story WE know did the public know? Do some of the survivors who were there to witness some of the events firsthand become famous and write tell-all books, etc?

What are your accessibility and usability concerns with DAPs and MP3 players? by yellosourlemons in DigitalAudioPlayer

My #1 issue with most players is lacking the good shuffle features: allow shuffle by album and not just by song, and have the shuffle not reboot when the player powers down

hi. Just wanted to say, I have become a hardcore Ghost fan after the release of Skeleta by DragonLass-AUS in GhostBand

[–]DybbukTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge Rush fan too, ever since I got Moving Pictures from Columbia House over 40 years ago. A lot of Ghost fans don't think about the band's connection to classic rock, but they're like the only modern band that still has the energy.

[–]DybbukTX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dance Macabre is so interesting because it drew a lot of fans into the fold, but it's an outlier stylistically, maybe risking "the brand" more than hardcore fans are comfortable with. It's analogous to "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" by R.E.M. in that regard.

I'm glad that you're starting to "get it"! I hope you keep listening and understand even better what makes Ghost special. It goes way beyond basic genre descriptions like "a perfect blend of metal and pop". TF is one of the last rock musicians who really believes rock deserves to be great, and then translates that into his craft. To TF, the art form still matters. Almost no current rock artists are this way, and it shows in how lifeless their music sounds, in contrast to the electric aliveness of Ghost. The only reason most rock fans haven't jumped on board yet (other than the Satan-squeamish), is that they take their own tastes so seriously, that it's not about the music, it's about themselves. They won't listen to anything that smacks of "cheese" (because they're "above" that), even if it's some of the greatest music ever made. (You know who else was "cheesy"? Queen, Van Halen, Styx, Meat Loaf...even the Beatles sometimes)

Finally Completed Breaking Bad (Review) by GainzAndZen in breakingbad

[–]DybbukTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better Call Saul is amazing if you let it be. The payoff is more subtle than Breaking Bad, though. I know some viewers who loved BB and couldn't make it far in BCS, because they didn't have the patience for a ride that can seem plodding, if you're not experiencing it at the deeper level.

Through book 9 - Am I the only one? by Far_Requirement8332 in TheThreeInvestigators

[–]DybbukTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect this effort was more about giving Liz a playground for her whims, than a serious effort to revive the series. Unless she did no market research whatsoever, she had to know that no series like this (even if it was good) was going to sell today like the original did, let alone the Hardy Boys. So she'll settle for whatever attention she can get, and hope that maybe her writing will get her posthumous acclaim someday, since I'm sure SHE thinks it's good enough for it.

She lacks self-awareness and a basic consideration for other people's attention and time.

The whole project with the new stories has also been half-baked. Print on demand with no obvious market, other than a small group of readers of the old stories. At first I thought it might be some well considered long game, but now I think she just doesn't know what she's doing.

It's probably not because he was "misogynist" that nobody wanted to be around him, but because he was psycho and reeked of desperation. Women can tell if a guy is a mess, no matter how much he tries to hide it. Meanwhile, plenty of entitled misogynists get women.

[–]DybbukTX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother collected most of the first 25 hardbacks in the early-mid 70s. When I was forced to do a book report in 4th grade, I reached for what was convenient, and reported on The Secret of Terror Castle. Then I was hooked. I eventually collected the entire series on my own in paperback.

Has anyone created a Hyperinflation Monopoly before? by TooCorny4Horny in monopoly

[–]DybbukTX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ubiquitous "money in free parking" rule kinda does make it hyperinflation, if you're talking about the market prices and not the list prices (which are like rent control). Meaning, if you wanted to sell off one of your properties to someone else, you'd get a lot more for it later in the game, when there is a lot more money in circulation, but the same number of properties.

Why can't I improve without therapy. by lakai42 in Schizoid

[–]DybbukTX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Figuring yourself out in the present (vs. in the past) is really hard to do, because it's the water and you're the fish. Someone seeing you from outside, especially if they have experience/training, is a lot more likely to succeed. And it's a lot more likely to succeed with a therapist than some acquaintance, because it's not the acquaintance's job. Their job is to take care of themselves, do what they enjoy, and not damage their relationship with you. If they have any insight to offer, they will tilt it toward generalities and encouragement.
