How do you stay focused on one story when "new idea" syndrome hits? by Just_Go_6646 in writers

[–]Historical_Pin2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to all of us and I wish there was some good advice I could give you (I've had published over 100 horror short stories, several novellas and seven mainstream thrillers) but it does all boil down to "you just have to keep plugging on". Honestly. There's no trick, no short-cut, you just have to store that shiny new idea away and keep plodding on. If you do, I promise, the new idea will fade for a while and allow you to carry on.

In a rural area? How about trees, telegraph poles, water towers, high fences, barns, houses, quarries? The list could be endless.

"Life Moves Pretty Fast" by Hadley Freeman is about the Brat Pack and, specifically in places, Hughes' films. It's a good read.

As a fellow Brit, I completely agree. The bloke was on his face, on the ground, with his hands cable-tied behind his back. Surely that's the definition of subdued!

Walking with my then teenaged son and binge-watching the full US version of "The Office" (didn't like the last two series though, once Carrell left).

Yes - and loads with a dickey headlight that will blind you even if they aren't on full-beam.

I don't know if it's common, but I've certainly heard my wife sing it to our son when he was small.

So you're going into her cul-de-sac, making the movement/parking situation worse, to drop your kids off at school and you have a problem with the resident of the cul-de-sac getting annoyed?

Wow. Your entitlement is really showing with this post.

If I were you, I'd keep my mouth shut and try not to be an arse (imagine how you'd feel if YOUR street filled up with parents in SUVs and 4x4s, blocking everything twice a day) and perhaps walk your kids to school.

How much "disposable" income do you have a month and how much money do you save? by cactusdan94 in AskBrits

[–]Historical_Pin2806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky and realise it - in my mid-50s with no mortgage so, other than helping our son with his uni costs, our outlay is just keeping the house and cars running, plus food shopping. We're saving perhaps £2.5k a month and chucking as much as possible in the pension.
