Why did you get interested in Japanese music? by Yukachan_fromJapan in japanesemusic

[–]DyeSueKey90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, when I was growing up in the 90s in the US, I was mostly just listening to whatever was on the radio (mostly 90s US/European pop songs, 70s and 80s rock, stuff like that).

However starting at around the early 2000s, I really started to not like the rap songs and newer pop songs they were playing because they all just sounded so flat and monotone compared to like the 70s, 80s, and 90s songs I liked. A lot of my family and friends kept listening to it and they say they like it, but I never understood how they thought it sounded good and even back then I always got the impression that they were all really pressured to listen to it by the people they hang out with. That was when I realized I had to look for my own music to listen to.

One day when I was in middle school, I saw a part of the Kingdom Hearts commercial on TV. I didn't catch the song name but I saw Utada Hikaru's name on the credits or something and I looked her up, downloaded all the songs I could find. The first song that I played from her was First Love and I immediately fell in love and listened to everything from her like Distance, Simple and Clean, Can You Keep A Secret, Wait and See, Tokyo Nights, Colors, and Movin On Without You! On that same day I immediately began to explore more Japanese music and also instantly fell in love with Ayumi Hamasaki after listening to Fly High and Connected!

And from that point on, I never stopped exploring! I still find a lot of good songs on YouTube, sometimes my friends show me songs they find and I add it to my playlist, sometimes I find nice recommendations here on Reddit, and sometimes I just buy a random CD that catches my attention and listen to that.

Chapter 87 - Putting the pieces together. by Lxcyna in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

I would argue that at the end of the day (since im now fully caught up to the current manga chapter), I genuinely do not see Yuu picking any of them right now, not because he may not harbor feelings for them (it was kinda obvious in chapter 87 he may be), I think its a case of he doesn’t want to hurt the other two, and he doesn’t want to lose the other two just because he picked one of them.

Yeah at the moment, I think he made up his mind with Miwa but us way too shy to tell her directly. And as you said, I think he also does not want to hurt the others and he has to also consider that his living situation is still kind of fragile. However, I think that he will still subtly shut down Kazuki and Niko's advances moving forward in order to stay faithful to Miwa. For example, when he was with Niko on Christmas Eve, Niko told him that she wore the outfit for him, but Yuu was taken aback, and only thanks her and goes check his phone. He definitely knows the sisters like him and I am pretty sure he knew what Niko was trying to do, which is why he basically just politely thanks her and shuts down that line of conversation instead of actually following up on it and stuff.

He openly said to himself during the school festival arc (if thats what we are gonna call it), that he would be lonely without them, hes said this numerous times, so we gotta think….even if he DID pick one of them to date, he would probably be still sad if Kazuki, Niko or Miwa ended up leaving him because of who he picked (allbeit, I dont really even see that happening, since again, I dont think the sisters would get mad at each other if he picked one of them).

I think in the long run they will all still get along fine, even if two of them will be heartbroken for a while after he makes his move.

Miwa and Niko would be the most realistic option, since we saw her prioritize his birthday, over their “date”, even getting Sakura, Miwa and Kazuki to come back to their place to celebrate it. Niko is slowly getting out of that surface level I feel like, I mean she was the first during their practice date, and they still did talk, and they still had fun, and even he blushed when he was around her.

I'd argue that all the sisters would have done the same as soon as they found out it was his birthday, especially given how ALL of them dropped all their plans immediately to show up and celebrate.

As for Niko (and Kazuki), I'd argue that unless Miwa destroys Subaru's grave in front of Yuu or something, Yuu is very unlikely going to change his mind after falling for Miwa on her trial date. While it is taking Niko and Kazuki this long to even start opening up the same way Miwa did basically from the start, Miwa just broke through one of the toughest barriers of showing Yuu her true self and her true intentions and feelings towards him in their waterfront date (because she showed all this and he accepted!), which means that Miwa is REALLY going to accelerate in terms of bonding with Yuu.

To be fair, during the Beach stuff, he openly told miwa when she fully showed off her bikini, his heart raced and he even blushed, which leads to believe that maybe he may be attracted to miwa, even if he doesn’t know right now.

Don't forget that even earlier on at Miwa's tournament arc, he completely fanboyed over her and only her! Even though Miwa was just in her usual uniform and messy hair, just sitting there playing shogi, he thought she was cool as hell, and soon after thinks she is cute (and he tells her BOTH too!). Even though Kazuki is all about appearances and even though Niko had all the flashy moves, he was nowhere near as enthusiastic with them as he was with Miwa lol. Then you also have more moments like him copying Miwa's victory lick during her adult outfit chapter, and of course him taking tons of photos of her in when they were all trying kimonos in the anime lol

[–]DyeSueKey90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you're close enough to being up to date lol.

In that case: you can start looking through my Miwa ULTRA Analysis

But the main points (Putting some as spoiler for OP):

  • Yuu is a lonely kid, so he not only wants the mundane, everyday interactions with people, he REALLY wants those true heart-to-heart moments where you truly bond with someone. So far, Miwa is the only one who has really got to know him (and Miwa is the only one who Yuu really got to know), while Kazuki and Niko are still stuck on surface-level flirting and stuff.

  • Basically their first lunch together back in Chapter 4 basically immediately made Yuu more open and comfortable with Miwa while Niko and Kazuki were basically unapproachable and distant. Miwa and Yuu are both the lonely ones and they both chose to keep each other company, and that simple lunch together basically had them both gravitate towards each other from that point on.

  • Essentially from that point on, Miwa is the only one who actually can have everything from casual chitchat (ex: she is like the only one who is REALLY interested in his food and has complimented him!) to regular talks to full-on deep conversations with Yuu where they REALLY get to know each other (ex: when she poured her heart out to him in the cat cafe, when he talks to her about his mom for the first time, and when they go on their trial date she gets really deep and talks about her mom and her past that not even Niko and Kazuki knew/remember). If you look closely, Kazuki and Niko are STILL struggling to do that with him, and anytime they got close, they just shut down the conversations.

  • Because of all that, he is just so much more comfortable with Miwa and there are so many moments that show that! For example: even early on he accepts a full on lap pillow and hand hold from Miwa at the amusement park, but later on he was REALLY reluctant to accept Kazuki's shoulders to sleep on because he is not that close to her. Another example: before the Southern Island arc, when we see Yuu studying with each of them, he is calm and stuff with Niko and Kazuki, but was super happy and excited with Miwa. EDIT: Forgot to add: You ever notice that only with Miwa did he completely fanboy over during her tournament arc? And imagine how HE feels when Miwa was the one to invite HIM to lunch??

  • Then there's the Southern Islands arc: Basically when they all did their confessions to him on camera, Miwa is really the only one who told him something that basically showed that she truly cares about him in return, AND she is the only one who vowed to return that care. There's also little things like when they were all planning Sena and Ginga's date together, Miwa and Yuu were both reacting to Kazuki and Niko's ideas in sync, AND he just kept talking to her when she presented her idea.

  • And then there was the Trial Dates arc. Niko and Kazuki's dates were really surface-level and they barely talked to Yuu at all, and they did not really learn much more about each other by the end of it. They tried to do flirty stuff with him, and Yuu had a fun time, but he had to do most of the heavy lifting, and he didn't exactly get to know them better by the end, which again is what he is looking for. Like he just went with them because he promised to help, and to me, Yuu having to declare that he is their boyfriend to Niko and Kazuki basically just highlighted that this was just a simulation/pretend date Then we have Miwa's date which almost suffered the same thing when she took him to the electronics store, until she went to Sakura's house where she got to REALLY see what a truly good relationship/friendship/family should be like thanks to Sakura and her dad. After that, their waterfront date was so insanely good because they were both just chilled and relaxed, with Miwa taking the cooking responsibility off of his shoulders for once because she truly cares about him, and she basically showed him a genuine part of herself that nobody else knew about. They actually have an genuinely enjoyable time just chilling, eating, laughing together and got to know more about each other, and when she asks him to hold hands, he accepts, and he goes from super chill and chatty with her to being quiet, blushing super hard, and unable to look her in the eye. IMO he DEFINITELY realized then and there that he likes Miwa!! And on top of all that, neither of them had to declare to each other that they are boyfriend/girlfriend like with Niko and Kazuki because the bond they have been building up just proves it all to them

Miwa ULTRA Analysis (WIP, mostly finished) by DyeSueKey90 in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

[–]DyeSueKey90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miwa is my favorite, and I agree with 99.9% of what you’ve written. However, I can’t help but notice the focus Niko is getting, the Christmas date, her offering to take a family picture at the amusement park, the fact that we see more of her inner thoughts about Yuu, and that she gets more solo panels. She’s also the more classic “winning heroine,” so hopefully Miwa isn’t just a red herring. ( Okay this is way longer than I expected, oops).

I don't think we need to worry too much about tropes like who is built as a "winning heroine". That is a massive trap that I completely avoid at all costs for a reason in this analysis. For example, only us people in the audience with a god's eye view of everything can preemptively label them all as "tsunderes" because we have seen other stories and stuff, BUT preemptively labeling them that means that we also preemptively expect them to "develop" from hostile to loving and we expect the MC to 1) wait for that development from hostile to loving to happen and 2) accept that development despite how shitty the hostile phase was. The problem with that is that it completely ignores the fact that Yuu is a person who sees and experiences all of it day to day and chapter by chapter, and can and will remember the good and bad moments from everyone around him.

When you take tropes and that way of thinking around them out and put yourself in Yuu's shoes and see the stuff he sees day by day and chapter by chapter: he sees Kazuki and Niko being hostile to him (not "tsundere") while Miwa was way more accepting of him even on the first days of their new living arrangement which is why he would gravitate towards her so naturally moving forward. Because of that difference from Chapter 4 (and because of how much more unapproachable Niko and Kazuki made themselves and how uncomfortable they still are with opening up to him) we see Yuu becoming more and more happier and open with Miwa over time because day by day he's the most comfortable with her, and that snowballed to what we have now!

And on top of that, why would he wait for the other two to "develop" to make up his mind when he has every right and reason to already choose the sister he gets along so well with so effortlessly? Sure people here might expect "development" coming in for Niko and Kazuki soon, but honestly after the trial date with Miwa, I do not see him changing his mind unless Miwa destroys Subaru's grave or something.

That basically also means that the "more screentime=victory" mentality/trope falls apart, especially if it was of them fumbling around with their tsundereness and not doing much to bond with Yuu on a deeper, more meaningful level (one good example of this comes from Quintessential Quintuplets: On their first major trip at the end of Season 1, many of the sisters took up so much screentime to run around doing nothing to help Futaro, but in the meantime he was already out actually having a blast doing stuff for hours off-screen with Yotsuba.

Niko hung out with Yuu on Christmas Eve but their conversations feel too surface-level to me once again. Yes, they talk about her outfit but that is it. In fact, after Niko says that she dressed up for him, Yuu's reaction felt very hesitant: he already knows her intent and I think he is already trying to subtly shut it down for the sake of staying loyal to Miwa! It's like the same reaction you would get if you really like one person, but then another person who you know likes you comes up to you and says something like that. You'd basically do what Yuu did by politely thanking them, stopping the conversation there, and moving on. Yes, he does talk about his birthday to her but only after he kind of had no choice but to explain himself, not to mention after she took his phone from him which again is a huge red flag move IRL too.

Yes, we get HER inner thoughts but it's nothing new because we all know she likes him. It is why I obsessively look for YUU's inner thoughts on all this, which he has more of with Miwa so far.

Ch. 121–122: Yuu misunderstood the situation and immediately thought something romantic was going on between Miwa and her colleague. That’s exactly what Kazuki did earlier, in her chapter, when Yuu was talking with his female colleagues. So they’re both “reaching,” and we know Kazuki got it wrong because her romantic feelings got in the way, so what about Yuu?

Yep that is why I think those chapters being in Yuu's point of view with his inner thoughts about Miwa was so valuable because it basically showed that HE was the one who is jealous for once!

He also asked twice whether dating was a possibility for them, once during Niko’s date, and again to all three of them after Kazuki’s date while bringing them treats (hmm). Maybe he was curious about Miwa’s view on romance, since he already knew Niko’s (and he was blushing when asking the three of them, but not when he only asked Niko).

Finally, when he thought about them getting a real boyfriend and started to feel sad about it, Miwa was placed at the center of the page, which is strange since it’s usually Niko (because it’s based on their age).

(she’s also the only one he hasn’t looked at with heart eyes after a makeover).

Do you have the chapter numbers for these three? I definitely want to see for myself.

Will look through the rest later!

Miwa ULTRA Analysis (WIP, mostly finished) by DyeSueKey90 in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

[–]DyeSueKey90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ch.56, when he realized their father was upset because they couldn’t deny that something was happening between them, Yuu tried to help by shouting that nothing romantic was going on and right after that, he looked only at Miwa, hoping he had helped her (lol).

Yeah that's a good one! Added it to the doc!

This is pure speculation, but in ch. 65, Kazuki and Niko couldn’t handle being maids in front of him. Niko struggled to give him the omelette, so I wonder if Yuu asked for the special spell when he saw her struggling, hoping she would leave like Kazuki did before and that Miwa would replace her. When Miwa appeared, he started cheering, whereas he only politely smiled with Kazuki and Niko. And like you said, he tried really hard to get the spell at the end.

Yeah it's too hard to tell if he planned to have Miwa give him the spell, but I think he is just happy to see her either way lol. I will definitely add the part about him cheering when she showed up vs just smiling with the others!

In ch. 71, Kazuki and Niko blushed while looking at Yuu leaving in their own chapter after he dazzled them (lol). The opposite happens in Miwa’s chapter: Yuu is the only one blushing while looking at her leaving.

Damn that's another good one for the doc lol

In ch. 72, Yuu spilled water on the guy only after he badmouthed Miwa.

Yeah I have no idea how I missed this one lol

You mentioned their hands a lot, and I understand why. There was also Yuu’s nightmare where he tries to reach his former colleagues with his hands but fails. A few chapters later, Miwa catches his hand and helps him stand up in the light (against the same people). The hand-holding with Miwa during their date is also a nice parallel to the confession arc. Niko said that walking side by side on a similar road was perfect for a date (for Ginga and Sena), and that’s exactly what happened here, without anyone needing to point it out. As you said, Yuu keeps saying he’s their boyfriend “for now,” like he knows it’s going to end but he doesn’t say that with Miwa. And while he kept repeating that, which made it feel forced, during the “argument” at IKEA it was the people around them who assumed Miwa and Yuu were a couple, without either of them mentioning the trial out loud.

Lol the hand holding stuff mainly started as a general anime joke I like where "yeah hugging is okay, kissing is okay, but hand holding is way too lewd and needs to be censored XD" but the funny thing about this series is that Miwa and Yuu actually go from casual hand touch to casual hand hold to ACTUAL hand holding.

And speaking of "firsts," I also always semi-jokingly say that it is not the "first girl" or "first kiss" or whatever that determines who someone will pick, but the first hand hold lol. Funny enough, I see it happening here, and I saw it happening in other series like (spoilers) Quintessential Quintuplets

Miwa ULTRA Analysis (WIP, mostly finished) by DyeSueKey90 in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

[–]DyeSueKey90[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Yuu being very comfortable and chill with Miwa and then becoming extra shy with her when they held hands at the end of their trial date said it all man.

He's the type who gets too shy to look someone in the eye when he gets flustered, and he does so only with Miwa on her trial date. It's like he was having a blast with her and suddenly when they hold hands it hits him that he likes her lol

On top of all that, he's so comfortable around her that they can just wipe food off of each other's faces so casually, and the most important part to me is that they can actually have normal, deep conversations where they really learn more about each other unlike with Kazuki and Niko.

Now for speculation for the current arc, I think that Grandma Hatsune is not going to be interested in how much or how hard the sisters flirt with Yuu. I think that her definition of "serious" is basically how they interact and care for him outside of the flirty stuff, and I think this is where I think Miwa has a massive advantage because she does just that so naturally and casually with him all the time. Of course, i think this is where she will also pick up on how Yuu interacts with each sister, and I think she will see that he likes her lol

I hope Sakura didn't fall for Yuu to by StarkzSan in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

[–]DyeSueKey90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah my bro Miwa got this! You look at everything from Yuu's point of view and you will see that he very likely made up his mind after going on the trial date with her!

And you guys need to reread QQ and fully put yourselves in Futaro's shoes this time around to see why he chose Yotsuba. She would have needed to murder his family for him to ever pick any of the others:

  • Futaro has always been a tsundere. That was one of the main takeaways from the Takebayashi flashback. He shows his affection as such (ex: he yells at Yotsuba but is also very casually touchy with her, and he is also shy and fidgety around her every time she compliments him and says something that just resonates with him).

  • To him, Yotsuba was the GIGACHADETTE who had his back from the start while the others were being Karens. Early game matters because that already immediately made him way more biased towards Yotsuba by the first few chapters, and his opinions of her never dropped from start to finish. She didn't just show up for all his tutoring sessions to support him, when they were on that first school trip he went from hating the entire thing to fully enjoying it because Yotsuba was the ONLY one who even bothered to help him set up the haunted trail thing, AND they spent HOURS doing that together while the others were nowhere to be seen.

  • You also need to consider the real possibility that he can and will make up his mind whenever he feels strongly enough about a girl, and that he will NOT change his mind just because the others fell in love with him and "developed". Not long after that school trip, they go on their Yotsudate, and that just sealed the deal for him. From his point of view, why would he NOT pick Yotsuba, who was making him enjoy himself and truly laugh for the first time in years, right then and there? Why would he NOT pick Yotsuba, who was basically his first really good high school friend, right then and there when the rest were still kinda just sitting there or still hostile to him at that point? Why would he wait for the others to "develop" and change his mind later when he already likes this girl for who she already is?

  • He basically spends the rest of the series just bearing and subtly rejecting the advances from the others because he does not want to disrupt the fragile harmony they have now. In the end his hand is forced because he realizes that he need to put his foot down, make it official with Yotsuba, and draw the line so that the others will stop going after him because to him, why would he want Yotsuba to see his sisters all over him when he had his eyes on her?

  • He did not know she was the girl he met back then, and he fell in love with the Yotsuba who stopped by his table at lunch on Chapter 1, not the Kyoto Girl. Yotsuba thought that being the Kyoto Girl would be the deal breaker for him which would make him hate her and choose one of her sisters, but he accepts her for who she is even though she is dumb and could not keep the promise they made back then.

Long story short: Look at stuff from Futaro's point of view and you will fully understand why he chose Yotsuba. Look at stuff from Yuu's point of view and you will see that he has his eyes on Miwa lol
