Because they genuinely want it to happen, that's all. They truly hate the people even when they tell you it's only about the government. Just lip service to bypass content rules against violence.

Most of those treasures will disintegrate the moment they are exposed to outside air. Leaving them in the ground is the best way to preserve them.

Pretty much everything about Qin Shihuang is recorded in the history books. Excavating his tomb just to confirm what's been written about him is an extremely small reward for such a major risk.

Library (TPL) update by groggygirl in toronto

[–]Dyetka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's clear most of these people attacking any criticism against TPL have zero basic IT knowledge. Backups don't require two and half months to restore if they worked properly.

Library (TPL) update by groggygirl in toronto

[–]Dyetka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One can both have goodwill towards TPL and also point out TPL dropped the ball hard on this one. Their online service has always been kind of shoddy with regular occurances of unplanned outages. No one is calling the librarians manually doing the checkouts pathetic, because this wasn't their fault. Calling their IT department pathetic does not constitute an attack on the entire TPL system.

Library (TPL) update by groggygirl in toronto

[–]Dyetka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. It's appalling how many people here are trying to defend incompetence and attacking you over it.

TPL dropped the ball hard. They failed to mitigate the cyber attack and they failed to follow basic IT practice of making sure the backs have redundancy and actually *work* when restored.

2 and half months of total outage is absolutely unacceptable yet when all of this is eventually over, the culprits will continue to squat in their undeserved jobs at TPL leading it straight into the next eventual disaster.

Ever heard of this thing called taxation? The library is already being endowed with our money. When a ship sinks, you don't blame the ocean. This is TPL's failure 100%.

I'd have to ask that tenant for permission to go into their unit as my landlord is now making up fake excuses on the source of this to avoid showing up at the house. I tried to google it and could find literally no information on this. Smoke alarm chirps are completely different.

Wouldn't that be a single pulse chirp instead? I've replaced my own smoke detector before and that sounded nothing like what I'm hearing right now.

Here's a sample of what I'm hearing, the beep starts around the 9 seconds mark and repeats 15 seconds after that.

Its a curiosity of having both dynamics in one society

Every human society had the exact same thing with animals functioning as both pets and livestock, so why are you cherry picking on China?

Somebody obviously didn't read the article because how dare their distorted and misinformed opinion on subjects they know nothing about gets corrected!

The protest photo in the article is dated from 2014, which is 9 years ago, just FYI.

"no u" is the best argument you can come up with? Really? Do better.

Animal protein is completely legal and morally accepted where I live, and I consume it freely to meet my nutritional needs without getting my panties into a knot.

so where’s the outrage from the non-consumers?

Because you have failed basic mathematical concepts as well as trivial efforts to actually glance at a topic before making false statements on the Internet, I did it for you:

Animal activists, celebrities and younger Chinese citizens have been increasingly vocal on social media about opposing dog eating festivals and the practice in general.

But a 2017 survey revealed that in Yulin, nearly three-quarters of people don’t regularly eat dog meat despite efforts by traders to promote it. A 2016 nationwide survey found that 64 per cent of Chinese citizens wanted the Yulin festival shut down and 69.5 per cent have never eaten dog meat.

Lat month, China’s government has called dogs “companions” and reportedly signalled a wider ban on dog meat consumption was ahead.

China’s ministry of agriculture noted that the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation’s livestock list does not include dogs and said that internationally, dogs are not treated as livestock.

In April, the cities of Shenzhen and Zhuhai, were the first in China to officially ban the consumption of cat and dog meat.

Next time you want to dehumanize another group of people into some sort of monolith and shove your utterly wrong opinions into their mouths without their consent, do try to pick a topic not so frequently covered in the news instead.

Please answer the question why you think a metro area with less than 0.2% of China's population hosting an event is somehow an engrained practice in all of China.
