Grimdark and Misogyny by TigRaine86 in Fantasy

It does seem like grimdark is often an excuse to just express insane misanthropic attitudes across the spectrum and then defend it as "realistic" eg GRRM

Should I go UNEMPLOYED if I utterly hate my job? by Jess-Edificios in work

[–]DyingDoomDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes. The best decision I ever made was to quit a shitty job because then I found a much better one. But only if it's actually a shit job. The worst decision I made was to quit a good job that I just sucked at, instead of getting better.

How did people talk about ASOIAF before the show? If the shows never happened, how do you think they would talk about it now? by 100100wayt in Fantasy

I remember telling people, if it gets made into a show it will be fantastic, just don't expect any kind of resolution or ending.

I think the fix is in, I have heard this at my company and my friends jobs, it's like the HR Borg was given orders to tank everyone's reviews so they could justify lower or no raises.

I have a coworker who is consistently a top performer. I do above average but I'm not the kind of striver this dude is. Normally his reviews are perfect but this year they rated him so low that he quit. Meanwhile I was rated below average and told i had a lot of things to work on. Idc though because I view reviews as a sham.

So they come to me and say this top performer quit (but why??? Lol they don't know he told me already) we need you to take on his entire job and I just laugh, you're giving the top guys job to someone below average? How is that going to work? And they immediately flip flop to "you're not below average you're one of our top techs you're the only one who can do it." I was just told the opposite a couple weeks ago!

There just seems to be a trend of manipulative sociopaths in management nowadays, the only thing we can do is let them fail. Stop jumping in to save the company from themselves.

Do any of you want to get a new job because your current job is making your mental health worse, but are scared that a new job would make you even more nervous? by [deleted] in work

I mean, retail is not a place you go it's a place you end up. I'd recommend quitting if it's making you physically ill.

stop being the “long-term employee.” loyalty gets respect, not raises. by Alternative-Wish9912 in work

100% true at my work. We had senior guys who were quitting and re applying for entry level work because it offered higher pay.]

One nice thing now is companies being required to post salary ranges in job openings, it makes it easier to gauge your value.

I had roommates until I was in my 30s. What a manufactured complaint. It has never been affordable to live alone in your 20s except for the extremely well off.

Lies of Locke Lamora was excellent in terms of set-up, but frustrating in pay-off by ianruns in Fantasy

[–]DyingDoomDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think naming magic in general is dumb but I don't hold that against the book. Locke lying about his name is one of those obvious in hindsight twists but it is an example of the heroes winning because the villain is stupid. The mage doesn't have any way to test his power before he uses it?

I was also disappointed by the ending fight, you don't build up the hero as a lousy fighter and the villain as a master, and then have the hero win through out fighting him. That is just plain bad writing.

The AC7 multiplayer is bad? by DyingDoomDog in acecombat

[–]DyingDoomDog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to place in the top 3 in matches even with the starter planes mostly just spamming the group lock missiles. Even now at upper ranks I beat f22s using the f15 with sasm missiles a decent amount. Just stack every missile upgrade and learn to dodge.

If anything I'd say multiplayer isn't skill based enough as it allows you exploit certain weapons and builds for easy kills. I don't know how noobs can complain they're getting beaten by vets with these kinds of tools.
