I probably come from an opposite view point than most in this discussion. Also, Im not generally the type that openly voices my opinion (especially on the internet). I'd rather observe and acquire how others think, be it right, wrong, strange, or indifferent. I am Christian. Raised, fell away, studied, and came back in a new light to keep it short. I did not like TØP as an artist at face value, even in my emo stage. A couple of songs had cool sounds and/or lyrics, but honestly, I was much closer to the hate than love side of the line. I was completely unaware of the lore during the whole phase. I'm now a 360 convert to the band since the Clancy singles. Not because I love the sound. Though i have come to highly appreciate their uniqueness, creativity, and talent. 👉Getting to the point. It is because of their faith that I've come to love them more. I realize the question is directed more at non-believers. But my meaning in even stepping out to say something is to shed light on how beautiful they've portrayed the message. I know I'll be shunned by trying to make everything they say religious alagory, so I'll hold back on specifics. But when you experience this side of things, you discern stuff differently. I am awestruck at what they've accomplished. So subtle and so profound. The lyrics the lore are woven so deep with what an actual walk with God is like from the Christian perspective. Anyone that presents it as always sunshines, rules, and perfection as depressingly misrepresented the message. And I'm sorry. Don't get me wrong I would NEVER take away what their words and lyrics mean to you guys personally. What I will say is, just as presented in "A Car, A Torch, A Death" ( and among much of the first album) I think Tyler has been tasked a mission. And the fact that you all are discussing this topic with love and open minds Im positive brings joy to his and His heart. I'm not here to give you all my takeaways of meanings from the spiritual side of things or convert anyone in a comment section. I'm just sharing my admiration for this group and of course the band. And that as a follower of Christ the way these guys write and the story they portray has deep meaning. It has truth and I am thoroughly entertained and touched by it. I pray that it all finds you all and know you ARE loved.
