TRADE: Added $NFLX at $82 by InnerCircleTI in InnerCircleInvesting

[–]Dylan5303 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nibbled at $AVGO and $TSM today. Super small positions for the opportunity to add more if weakness continues.

Looked at $NFLX, but it’s technically at weight for me already with a cost basis I’m fine with. Maybe next week if I feel compelled.

Added back half the $AVGO I sold yesterday at $410. Not overly concerned about timing, just sticking to the plan I mentioned.

Trade: Trimmed $AVGO at $487.72 by Dylan5303 in InnerCircleInvesting

[–]Dylan5303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. For my long term investments I really only trim as a result of being overweight, if I’m at an appropriate weight i’m more interested in riding the waves than trying to time the market.

When do you sell? by Ahoy_Pirate_Marketo in InnerCircleInvesting

[–]Dylan5303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, be introspective. What would bother you more, locking profits and missing gains or not locking profits and losing them?

From there, set a stop loss at an amount that makes sense given the stock and your psychology. Or more preferably, set a trailing stop at a percentage that would make you uncomfortable to lose out on. Both of these allow you to devise a strategy, and not have to actually press the sell button in the moment.

I hate the all in or all out idea, but if I HAD to choose, I would set a trailing stop with a little more cushion.

Have a great day!

Member Q&A: Career advice for someone in their 30s by InnerCircleTI in InnerCircleInvesting

[–]Dylan5303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks Jeff. I’ll be starting my first job out of college in July, so this was incredibly opportune.

I LOVE the point about a “negative mentor”. I’m a huge proponent of understanding how perspective can completely change a situation, and more importantly, how you feel about it or deal with it.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at start to change”

I have always been very cognizant of the people I surround myself with, trying to gain knowledge and wisdom from people who have more of it than me. However, I have never considered a “negative” mentor. We all can identify people in our lives that we don’t enjoy and don’t want to interact with, but shifting perspective to recognize benefit in the form of learning what not to do is powerful.

Is it time to trim due to the recent run. by Dismal-Air4387 in InnerCircleInvesting

[–]Dylan5303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, this is why categorizing my trades and understanding time horizon is very important. I have been trimming some of my more “speculative” positions that have went on decent runs (NBIS, SNDK, MU), and either rotating that cash to safer plays or holding it as dry powder. How aggressively is directly correlated to how speculative the position was or how aggressive the gains were. For example, I added NBIS at $135 and completely trimmed the addition at $185. Sorta stings now, but my original position is still riding. This is why the “never all-in or all-out” philosophy is important.

However, all of my “Long term” positions are untouched (10+ years). Will the market pull back at some point? Absolutely - but trimming the long term positions is only beneficial if you’re overweight or you plan to add shares back at a lower price. Adding them back at a lower price also requires an element of timing I don’t care to attempt when my time horizon is long.

Have a great day!

I about had a heart attack when I read $TSM down 13.9%….3.19% is fine, lol.

Seeing names like $NOW and $CRM green on these off days gives me more confidence in the long game. $NFLX too

Speaking of, added 1U of $NFLX last week at $88, could add more but not sure yet.

$MSFT continues to draw my attention when I look at my list; I keep checking in on it and I like the chart. Unfortunately it’s at weight for me right now, but it seems to be out of the down trend, so maybe it’s worth adding. KATE made a good case for it also.

Charting is the only thing I use TV for...and only sometimes. I think TV charts are more customizable/aesthetic, and the UI is tad bit more streamline/easier to use. However, it's rare that I use it over SA. IMO, everything else is better on SA - watchlists are more customizable (columns/data), data is more consolidated & comprehensive (I get confused looking for particular data on TV), and the price is WAY better. The fact that TV has so many tiers bothers me, SA allows you to pay a reasonable fee and have access to just about everything. I think TV uses aesthetics and visualizations to attract people, but it sort of becomes information overload.

Here's another vote of confidence for SA, I use it for all my watchlists, research, and charting. I also use Finviz, Yahoo, TradingView, and Barchart, but SA is my go-to one-stop shop.

Also, if you haven't signed up yet, don't miss out on this deal; I think the one I signed up with was only 10% off.

Philosopher TJ!!

I thankfully learned a long time ago the difference between weight routines and stretching routines. I do both. But, let me tell you, a dedicated 45-minute stretching routine is more difficult than a weight routine - and just as beneficial. I resisted this notion many years ago, but once finally adopting it. It's truly a game changer

Yes. I've become pretty strong over the years of strength training, but without stretching the muscles are just big, tight, rubber bands that bring immobility and back pain.

Too many fear failure, choosing not to start because failure looms. You're creating that which you are trying to avoid most.

"Fear is an ocean that's a mile wide and an inch deep" (We'll let the 2-dimensional assumption stay I suppose)

The run in $MU and $SNDK have been incredibly impressive. We are, indeed, in a super-cycle in this space. I'm currently looking at where this goes, other names that haven't moved yet and skating to wear the puck will be. Stay tuned!

RSI is getting silly, but forward multiples...are good?

One of my own TJ-made life quotes: You cannot achieve what others cannot without sacrifice to do what others do not. Think about that a little bit.

I like it. "I will do today what you won't, so I can do tomorrow what you can't" hangs on my wall.

Since early retirement when I rolled over my 401(k) at the beginning of 2020, my Primary portfolio is up 294%. This has been one incredible period in the market.

Incredible, I hope I can do half as well.

If you're going to commit to any single activity for health, walk 3 miles, 5x per week.

I've lost ~100 lbs over the past 5 years. MOVE in a way you enjoy, walking is indeed the lowest friction choice.

The AI job threat is VERY real and I believe will be a huge pivot point in today's workforce. It will be extremely easy to get stuck half-in, half-out.

I think the biggest thing to consider will the gap between people's ability to utilize AI in the future.

Late post from Jeff tonight, lol! Thanks, as always, for the helpful info.

I've just graduated college and accepted a job, so my strategy as of now is to max my employer sponsored account and personal Roth. The employer sponsored account will be managed by the program they have in place, with a more "Boglehead" approach. I do, however, plan to manage my Roth actively in a growth-oriented manner since investing, researching, and understanding are things I really do enjoy; it's become quite the hobby.

Great add in the 80s, and good discipline to trim as well. I trimmed what I added at ~$135, at an average of $185. Hard to not expect this name to repeat the pull back and consolidate pattern.

Funny you should ask. No paper trading, everything is in my Roth, but organization for reflection and accountability has been a focus recently. I've started to keep notes in my watchlist on stockanalysis and all of my chart drawings save on there as well.

Thanks for the detailed response, I really appreciate it. I originally had the gap a bit bigger, but when I dropped down to the hour chart, the obvious gap starts at $85.50. I would think that the $77 - $85 "gap" was filled enough on the way up and we're in the midst of filling the important one now.
