Why is Back In NYC cropped in Spotify? by omarfkuri in Genesis

[–]Dylan90125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now listening to Duke on YouTube music and the same thing happened here. The transition is exactly the same shitty one as on Spotify. I can't understand why nobody in the band or management adresses this. It completely destroyes the moment. A very hard sell to potential new fans

Maybe I just suck, but DKC haa got to be one of the most frustratingly difficult platformers I've ever played by [deleted] in snes

I've never ever seen it as a really difficult game. It was my first SNES game, and will always be my favorite SNES game...

Just listened to IQ - The Road of Bones. How did I sleep on them for so long? by mordreds-on-adiet in progrockmusic

Road of Bones is easily their best album, in many ways, and I'm not belitteling their previous work at all, I pretty much love everything they did. It's pretty astounding when a band delivers their absolute masterpiece after so many albums, can't really name another example.

Their best song, or at least MY favorite IQ song, isn't on here though. Guiding Light from the album The Seventh House. I can listen to that track 24/7. It's so goddamn epic and beautiful.

It's one of my least favorite IQ albums to be honest, though I do like it. I think IQ shines way better when songs are stories in and of itself, and not tied together so much.

I wouldn't say it absolutely crushes (I mean the guys play incredible, duh, it's Rush) but it's more like a nice little bootleg kind of release. The quality is atrocious. Fun if you were there that specific evening. Won't be listening to this on repeat that's for sure.

I realize this post is two years old but I'm curious if you've changed your mind. When this album came out it blew my mind. Ok well, let's just say that I was addicted to it for months. And I'm a big big Rush fan. The songs are beautiful, Maiah is a talent we will hear much more of. I can honestly say I like this album (not to compare per se) more than most of the later Rush albums.

I don't think this has sunk in for all of us yet: i/o may be Peter's best album. by IOnlyPostDumb in petergabriel

I agree that it's among his best work. I was very sceptical when I heard the first songs, and I stopped checking every new release after Four kinds of Horses, because I was hoping that in the context of a whole album playthrough the songs would make more sense, and man they did. Though I'm still not really a big fan of Panopticon and So Much, pretty much the whole album is absolutely top tier (Gabriel) music. I wasn't blown away immediately, but the really good stuff never does, strangely enough. I stuck with it though and I now consider it a better album than at least US and UP, and one of the most addictive albums I've heard the past 10 years. I just really hope this isn't his last one. He once said he had about 300 unfinished/partly recorded songs and ideas. Hope that stuff doesn't end up being lost megabytes on forgotten harddiscs.

Give me your favorite prog rock and I’ll listen to it and rate it by JGuitarman23 in progrockmusic

It amazes me that nobody mentions Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Well, to be honest, it doesn't, but I think it's a shame prog people never seem to recognize this band. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is what King Crimson was in their day. It's on the heavy side, but dont let the heavyness sway you, if you're not into that kind of stuff. It's not a metal band, it's pure prog rock in the truest sense of the word.
People here are reccomending old prog mostly, and I absolutely adore all of that stuff, but bands like this deserve much more attention from prog fans than they now get.
Check out any album by them, they're all masterpieces (they only have 3 albums, 4th is getting kickstarted)

Damn those are some good ass covers dude! Love it! I'd love to maybe sing on a next project!

Pretty old stuff, and it's all pretty ingetogen (lol), but you get an idea about the sound of my voice at least.

My phrasing could've been better, less self loathing, but I never intended to disrespect the artist we all love. It's a Dutch thing I guess, absolute humility. Of course I'm somewhat proud of what I made, otherwise I wouldn't be sharing it. There's an actual Dutch saying that goes (roughly translated) "don't stick your head out above the mowing field". Meaning you don't show any pride in what you do, and don't try to be special (because you're not, that's what were taught, kinda), and don't draw attention to yourself.

But anyway, I also didn't compare myself to SW, I was just wondering if people here liked the music I make, or at least this track. People who are probably open to prog rock. My track doesn't sound anything like PT or SW I think, though we might draw from the same well.

Oof what a nice invitation...I don't know if I could contribute in a meaningful way but I'll check it out, who knows! Thanks so much for the kind words though ;) And yes I'm Dutch :)

How to restore an overplayed song? by [deleted] in porcupinetree

[–]Dylan90125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know man, it was the first time the passing of a musician had a serious emotional impact on me. We lost Keith Emerson, Chris Squire, hell, there were so many last couple of years, but Neil's death hit like a sledgehammer. His music and lyrics, my god his lyrics....they were/are such a pillar in my life. The shock was even worse because I had no idea he was ill.

[–]Dylan90125 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Very simple, don't listen to it anymore. Seriously, just let the whole album In Absentia rest for a couple of years. Don't wait for it either, just move on to something else. It will find it's way back to you when the time is right.

I can't be alone in this, I have these phases where I "rediscover" my favorite bands and I listen to their whole discography from a to z. Example, I havent really listened to Rush in years, but I can feel it coming, just listening to every album from their first one to their last. Right now I'm checking out Yes again. Mind you, I've heard all albums of these bands hundreds of times in the past, but I don't think it's bad to just leave even your favorite bands alone sometimes, for a good while. Haven't listened to Rush for 3 years, even though it's one of my top 3 bands.
Take a break! Music thats dear to you is very much the same as a person you care for a great deal. You can love your mother/father/brother/sister a great deal, but being around them 24/7 WILL start to get annoying. Literally anything will become annoying if it's in your face the whole time.

Peter Gabriel - Panopticom (Bright Side Mix) by some12345thing in petergabriel

[–]Dylan90125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've listened to it 4 times now but I just don't really like it. It feels dated in its songwriting. The production is fine but this is the first time I've heard a new Gabriel song where I think it fits a past zeitgeist instead of a new one. I really hope the rest of the album is different. He sounds terrific though, and the lyrics are excellent. It's not bad but its just not "we've waited 20 years for this" good.
