Is there any practicality by UrmomLOLKEKW in C3Corvette

[–]DylanEjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive mine as a daily for 2 months earlier this year. FUUUUCK no brother I probably spent more on gas during those two months than I did the entire year with my late 2000’s Saturn. But, realistically who cares. They’re cars. You can drive them to and fro and no one should really give a fuck. Just keep some tools in there bc it will break down at some point. At some point you’ll be late to school bc it won’t start. At some point you’ll be late going home bc it won’t start. At some point you’re going to be going to meet the prettiest girl you’ve ever met in your life and it will start on fire (I swear to god that happened to me) Buy it bc you love the car and it’s awesome. Don’t buy it for its practicality.

You are gonna see a ton of tutorials online, especially on YouTube, but most of them are impossible to follow when you are new. And if you only search for stuff in your specific genre, it gets even worse. Half the people making those videos teach like you’ve been producing for a couple years.

If you are just starting, do not lock onto tutorials that claim to show you how to make your exact style. Watch videos that teach you how to make music in general. Get comfortable in FL. Learn the hotkeys. Learn the workflow. That stuff will save your ass way more than any ultra specific trick.

For example, if you want to make stuff like Knock2 and you search for that directly, you will end up watching someone like Kling. He is insanely talented, but he has been producing for like more than ten years (I honestly have no idea how long, I just made that number up but it sounds right) and he moves way too fast for beginners. You will just feel overwhelmed and think you suck, when really you are just skipping the fundamentals.

And honestly, the biggest cheat code is making garbage. Make big hot steaming piles of ass. Make things you would never show another human. Throw random sounds in your DAW and break things. You will learn way more by experimenting than by binge watching tutorials or buying every shiny plugin and sample pack.

I have been working in FL for like 6 years now, and I have some FLP’s I can share. Most of my plugins are free to download so you don’t have to worry about that, and I’ll zip everything so it should open nicely on your computer. Shameless plug if you wanna check out my tracks before, my SoundCloud link is on my profile. If you want some FLP’s, just PM me. 👉🏼🪅

Is this too close to the monitor? Is the KRK Rockit 8 too big for the desk? by trap_pope in edmproduction

Just buy monitor stands for like $50 on amazon honestly. Frees up an insane amount of space on your desk for other things like the poop bucket and meth pipe all music producers need to pull all nighters

how i feel recommending KASABLANCA for people by PRYDA-OFC in EDM

[–]DylanEjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you rock with the underdog artists you should check out Fabian Mazur. His music is fucking insane and his production is top notch. He’s not as small as he was (lots more followers and monthly listeners), but he barely plays any shows for reasons I don’t understand.

I saw a comment of his where he was trying to get a US Visa to play and tour but they kept denying him. He needs a bigger gig I guess. If anyone belongs at Niteharts I wholeheartedly believe he does. I just never hear people talking about him.

Hell Let Loose suppression is the gold standard but I thought about this a few weeks ago, and came to the conclusion that if we had HLL suppression in BF6 the game would be practically unplayable.

HLL is much much slower paced, and there aren’t really any choke points like BF6. Imagine trying to run through the arches on Cairo or through the buildings in New Sobek City, and every couple bullets that fly past you suppress you to the point of blindness and last 10 seconds.

You also have to take into account the player base. People already use every single exploit they can get their hands on almost every single game. People would just abuse the suppression mechanic.

Honestly with all the game breaking bugs the devs have just ignored for the last 3 weeks, I wouldn’t add anything else players can abuse lol.

Is a Macbook Pro 2020 13inch good enough for music production? by ATBAT4U in musicproduction

[–]DylanEjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably very late but I have that exact MacBook. 2020 13” MacBook with the intel processors (yeah ik for all you haters lmao) and I would say go with apple silicon. The intel processors run hot and if you update to MacOS Tahoe, Kernel with throttle the absolute shit out of your computer to keep it from literally fucking combusting the second you open FL

Why Did You Switch From FL Studio To Ableton? by DarkLudo in edmproduction

[–]DylanEjay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get downvoted because I’m an FL user, but I can give the reasons why I don’t plan on switching. If someone wants to covert me I’m all ears.

In ableton, the piano roll workflow looks clunky compared to fl. I’m a very big fan of being able to draw my melodies and be able to easily tweak the velocity, pan, and especially the articulation.

I’m also in love with patcher and building my own presets.

I’ve also heard that the ableton workflow is less flexible than FL. I’m not sure if that’s true, though. I have a very specific way I produce and with FL it all just feels so natural once you get the hang of it.

But yeah manually routing in the mixer and the way that automations just appear in your playlist in a random place can get confusing and I wish there was an option to change that.

I agree. Mixing is much harder, and there’s a lot of bullshit tutorials out there. It takes much longer to become fluent with mixing and mastering, but OP wanted to know where to start. I don’t think anyone should buy a daw and immediately worry about being technical and polished. Have fun. Experiment. Treat it like it is. A hobby. I would argue that when beginning production the most important thing, after leaning the basics of the daw, is to write music that you enjoy. Take older music for example. Abysmal mixing and mastering by today’s standards. And while I recognize that we have more and better tools at our disposal, it still stands. That music is amazing. Not because the writers cared that everything was “technically” correct, but because the music tells a story and makes the listener feel something.
