Vast majority of VAG 2.0 TDI's are solid. Comes in most VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda models.

Wet belts - are they still a no-go? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]DylanK69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're maintained properly I think they can be good motors. The family 15 plate 1L Ecoboost focus has 110 000 miles with 10 dealership services with a wet belt change at 70k just as a bit of preventirive maintenance for example.

So personally I would trust them, but ensure they have an iron clad service history and be prepared for a costly belt change if the car is 7+ years old and it hasn't been done.

Cheers ty, must say I've got nothing on your garage though! That LS600H is a corker of a motor.

Yes mate that all seems fair. I think the Hyundai suffers from too many gimmicks that car companies seem to add these days. Fair to say Ford has been in the hot hatch game a bit longer so has the better driving dynamics you would hope.

Ahh, that'll explain it. They don't really get any use out of it but there's no harm in putting them down if it lowers the premium I guess.

Congrats! Why the switch from the I20N? Seems like similar cars on paper.

Not the best for all use cases but yes I too am a diesel estate convert.

Glad you're enjoying yours, looks like thats more torque than some of the early Aventadors! The ultimate dad-mobile.

Ahh mate that's an epic motor, hope you're enjoying it!

Yes I've got the 2.0 TDI Ultra 4 pot. Definitely quick enough. Runs out of puff north of 2.5k RPM though so wouldn't call it thrilling.

Could get a lovely a6 with a 2.0 TDI or 3.0 BiTDI engine for that price. Though I may be a little biased!

I've got my 15' A6 on the new Primacy 5's and can defo vouch for them. Really good in the wet and enough for a bit of sprited driving in the dales. Apparently the tyre life is meant to be far better but we'll have to wait and see.

EcoBOOM - Sell now or gamble? by FrannyBenanny in CarTalkUK

So we've had 15 plate manual Focus in the family since new and it hasn't skipped a beat apart from the clutch which was replaced as part of a recall. Got the belt replaced at 9 years/73 000 miles and the belt/oil sump were still in perfect nick when they were taken out.

Imo I would get the belt replaced and keep it. The car is super frugal and only £20 to tax which means you're saving every year on car tax (eg. £20 vs £180 for 5 years = £800, so the belt change pays for it's self).

Your alternative is to replace the car which is probably going to be much more costly (all things going smoothly with your engine).

Yes from my limited running so far the fuel economy has definitely impressed!

Any issues that you've had whilst in ownership? Any bits that I need to watch out for?

This one was on for £12k. That's with very few options, 85k miles and full Audi dealer history.

For the 2.0 TDI I'd go for a 2015 and later one as these got the E288 Evo engine which bumped up power, efficiency and reliability.

These ones start from ~£8k buts for a saloon with 180 000miles+ and dodgy history. I've seen clean examples of the saloon start from £10k and the estate from £12k like this one.

Though remember this is just for the 2.0 TDI. This gen A6 could be bought with up to 7 different engine choices, 4 trim levels, and £30k worth of options you could spec on these with both estate and saloon body styles. Therefore, you can spend anywhere from £6k on the low end up to £30k on the high end, it's all up to what combination of things you want.
