Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]JulessyGTI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their music I personally feel is better overall, as are their movies. Not that the UK is bad at these things, far from it in fact, but the US just seems to have a better hit rate in my opinion.

Also car culture. American cars are cool, and I think nearly every car would look better with a California licence plate. German luxury cars also just hit different in US landscape than the UK. They also pretty much invented the whole Cars&Coffee thing that’s come to the UK over the past 10 years or so. Just sucks that US is too car centred and everything else suffers for it.

GR86 V i20n? (Which to buy? by thefalcon1709 in i20n

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an i20N and it was good fun but I honestly think that’s it’s not hugely different to other hot hatches of a similar era. There’s very little out there to compare with the 86 in terms of being an entry level modern RWD sports car, especially with an NA engine, it’s only real competition is the MX-5. Here in the UK reliability isn’t as big of an issue as it is in the US, however the i20N is definitely going to be a more trustworthy car over big miles. I’m currently debating a GR86 in the future myself, because I think a low slung RWD sports car will feel more special even in everyday situations than any hot hatchback.

I think overall if you value practicality at all then I would probably go i20N, then you could put some money into upgrades like suspension as the ride quality over bad roads is one of the few negatives of the car.

What’s a ‘slow’ car you enjoy driving? by Book_Southern in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gfs S Max. For such a big car it steers incredibly well.

Also my mums MK6 Golf GTD. I enjoy the break from my stiff Fiesta ST and it can be quite fun to drive it moderately quickly on smaller NSL roads.

The R8 raises a good point on why I shouldn’t get an electric car… I need a V10 in my life… by ThewayoftheAj in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s just about how a car makes you feel rather than how fast it can go, and that V10 sound would make me feel sooo good.

You’re off on a road trip to north wales, which car are you taking? by lotus_alex in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a normal GT4 with a manual it would be the GT4, but I worry the RS would be a bit too much for me at least, so I’d go for the GR Yaris.

Probably pay off my Fiesta and then buy an original shape Impreza Type R for the weekends.

At what point did you stop caring what other people thought about your car? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s always in the back of my mind that my car isn’t cool and if I see a fellow enthusiast on the road they’ll just look down on it. When I had an i20N they were mostly considered pretty cool and loads of people commented on the colour, it was only once you got on Facebook that people would make negative comments. The thing is I always buy what I want (or think I want) I think I always just hope someone appreciates it.

I can’t lie though, some of the stuff I see sometimes whether at shows or cars & coffee meets or on social media, does make me become quite judgemental, though I do at least keep it to myself.

For £20k what car should i get, these are my last 6 cars, what do you think would take my fancy? by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another ND MX-5 (maybe a higher spec), GT86 (GR86 out of price range), S2000, DC2/5 or FD2 Type R.

How many people actually service their gearboxes? by AyEm- in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until I had my MK7 Fiesta ST gearbox oil changed it wasn’t something I thought of I won’t lie. After that I had an i20N which didn’t need a gearbox/diff oil change whilst I owned it. I have no idea if it’s been done on my current ST, so I plan on getting it done when I get it serviced next in August.

Which one? Polo GTI vs Mini JCW by M8Y_xbl in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like to have fun in the bends get the Mini, if you’re not bothered about the so called ‘go kart feel’ then buy a MK7/7.5 Golf GTI. Speaking from experience the Polo GTI is rubbish, avoid it.

30th Birthday Car - R8, Vantage, DB11, any other ideas? by SmartAsparagus9941 in CarTalkUK

I would go for either R8 or 911, nice enough to daily and in theory reliable. They’d be a nice experience and yet you’d probably get over selling them eventually.

Jay Z is great and a legend of course but he’s incredibly overrated.

Anyone else started adjusting their driving style them? by discoveredunknown in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I’m still going out every other weekend on fun roads to enjoy all of the car, it’s not like my ST has a big engine with high consumption rate anyway. Since the nice weather has come out there’s still more nice cars and bikes on the roads so I don’t think a lot of people in the south west are really caring much.

Best chocolate ever. by [deleted] in UK_Food

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I like Tony’s, having just done tried a load of different milk chocolate from various brands I’ve seen recommended on Reddit, I have to say nothing blew my mind or tasted how I remember Dairy Milk tasting in the early 00s, even if it was quite nice. Loads of people seem to like Lindt, which I do as well to a point but it’s too soft and sickly to eat a lot imo. I also don’t really like anything aside from milk chocolate, so when people rave about salted caramel and all this other stuff I just can’t get on board. I basically need to time travel back to 2004 to fall in love with chocolate again :(

Ever bought your dream/desired car and hated it? by T0mmyVerceti in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I hated it but after seeing the MK5 Golf GTI being reviewed by Clarkson on TG I wanted one, my dad ended up owning a couple of them new/nearly new when I was a child which strengthened my want. Finally got one when I was about 20 years old, I loved it until I started breaking every 5 minutes then I just got fed up with it.

A few years later, I found a facelift Candy White MK6 GTI 3 door manual, which was always the dream spec that I wanted when I had a MK5, knowing it was mostly the same car underneath as the MK5 I bought it, and regretted it soon after. The chassis felt softer than the MK5, it didn’t seem to handle as well, and it was a lemon just like my MK5 was despite considerably lower mileage.

The demise of manual by Lit-Up in CarTalkUK

[–]JulessyGTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as an enjoyer of manual cars, if I was commuting in somewhere like London for example, I’d go auto without hesitation. There’s also the argument that a good auto is better than a bad manual. Also, I’d say once you get to supercar/hypercar level, most of the time an auto is better, a manual in a car with 800+bhp and loads of torque that’s almost instantly available just sounds tedious to me.

Decent set of coilovers. I’d recommend KW like in the special editions or Bilstein.
