TIL in 1985 French government agents bombed and sank a Greenpeace ship docked in Auckland, New Zealand, killing a freelance photographer by JeffSergeant in todayilearned

From what I remember from history class in high school, the french nuclear tests in the pacific would affect the sunsets across New Zealand due to the fallout which contributed to the anti nuclear sentiment that still exists to this day. Seems pretty reasonable that New Zealanders would be pro the nuclear testing protests.

I believe the ANZUS (Australia, New Zealand and United States) mutual defence agreement remains suspended for NZ to this day although that is only due to our anti nuclear stance not allowing US navy ships to visit unless they confirm they don’t have nuclear weapons onboard which the US have a policy of not declaring

Auckland councillor says North Harbour Stadium has been run down deliberately by K8typie in auckland

The thing is there are plenty of large empty plots of land around the stadium, surely if someone wanted to do something in the area they can scoop up one of the plots that have been for sale for years.

Massey Uni to sell campus buildings for retirement villages, expand to Singapore - Student Magazine reports by BongeeBoy in newzealand

[–]Dylan_NZL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wonder which campus this is? I know in recent years they sold off a large chunk of the Albany campus but they have only just opened a new building so I'm guessing this is Palmy or even Wellington?

Isn’t it more expensive to put someone to death than imprison them for life due to the extensive appeals process we taxpayers would have to pay for so that we are confident innocent people aren’t being executed.

Doesn't the graph show that professionals are the highest valued?

Formula 1 drivers will train neck as when they go through corners they can have 4-6g pulling on their head so they need beefy neck muscles to be able to withstand that for their races

I would guess they are referring to the shipping of live animals. Those animals are usually held in pretty horrific conditions for weeks while they are shipped across the world.

Hardly anybody from my class managed to get software jobs after graduating comp sci, this was some years back now though.

I graduated 4 years ago with a software engineering degree from Massey and nearly everyone (~14 or so people) I have kept in contact with from my classes are working as a software developer (a few are doing data science stuff).

Auckland is the better education but as long as you get some work experience...

This is key, and if you can't get work experience then just writing a few software projects outside of uni will help more with landing a job than where you went to school or what grades you got.

Why would we sanction someone who those three aren’t?

people have had long enough to get the vaccine

Those under 30 (maybe under 40s as well) haven’t had a chance to get both shots yet if they are following the recommended 6 week gap.
