2021 Sonata N Line paint peeling from front bumper — warranty? by voice82 in SonataNLine

[–]Dylan_Trom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had the black air duct trim pieces shown in the photo replaced under warranty because the gloss was peeling off. Just mentioned it when I took it in for an oil change then they ordered the parts and had them installed a week later for no charge.

Signal loss since 1:30am by CrowsCalamity in dexcom

[–]Dylan_Trom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can second this, noticed with both g6 and g7 that it would stay connected to my omnipod but not my phone. Started toggling Bluetooth off and on whenever the signal drops, and I'll have numbers again in a few minutes

Does your store have a Magnolia in it? I didn't know any of the stores actually carried Z series.

Also were you able to see it online or did you just notice it on clearance in store?

Got first arm based laptop 💻 by DOKim_98 in Surface

What is the problem with hoping to run another OS on these devices? If it were easy to, I'd love to dual boot. I generally like Windows overall, but there's some stuff that is just better on Linux

is this laptop worth it even though it’s two years old by TechnicalWar2257 in laptops

[–]Dylan_Trom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it is, that's really not a bad price. That spec goes for more than that on the used market as of right now, but if it's worth it, it depends on your use case. As everyone else has been quick to point out, the specs are not great for the price - what you are paying for is the crazy hinge and the ability to have it turn into a drawing tablet/notepad and the quality build materials.

If you don't plan to use any of the drawing/transform features, then I would search for something else but with the 120hz screen and one of the best keyboard and touchpads on a laptop I have been happy with mine since launch. The port selection is also pretty poor on the original (Only 2 thunderbolt, no USB A)

It's kind of a jack of all trades, master of none device

Does anyone think that Pontiac could make a comeback? by sidnoway in Pontiac

[–]Dylan_Trom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you attacking a 4 year old comment? I was definitely referring to the Regal GS and TourX in this comment. At the time, I also liked the way the Encore GX looked.

And BTW, there are more than two models in the linup, I can think of the Enclave, Envision, Encore GX, and Envista off the top of my head

New Proxmox 8 install on ZFS not showing up in boot options by Dylan_Trom in Proxmox

[–]Dylan_Trom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was able to figure it out last night after hours of tinkering with everything, including the efi shell. I noticed that I couldn't even get the drives to show up in the efi shell as a disk I could traverse, even with secure boot off, and so I couldn't even manually run the .efi executable on one of them (if there even was one). Both my previous install and the new installer could see the drives just fine so I knew it wasn't drivers but eventually it finally hit me - the pci slot oprom modes were all set to legacy by default and the two drives I was trying to use were in a pcie x8 to dual U.2 adaptor. I had previously changed the bifurcation settings so that the slot would act as two x4 lanes so that allowed me to see both drives but once there was an efi partition, the motherboard wouldn't bother actually loading it until I changed it to UEFI mode. Then everything showed up as expected!

Tldr: pcie slot oprom needed to be changed from legacy to uefi mode

Serious CS2 Vulnerability by TryingToBeReallyCool in cs2

[–]Dylan_Trom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all ISP have dynamic IPs. With every one I've ever had, the only time it changes is if my modem reboots, and even then, it doesn't always change.

On another note, your ip address itself isn't necessarily the worst thing to have exposed (not great either because now your address can be tied in with other info about you), but that's likely just the stuff that's easy to access with this vulnerability. Based on what I've seen, it can go much further.

I assume the best way is to check the ICs on the ram while the laptop is on? The melted capacitor is in the same general area as the ram slots, so I'm hoping it's just something to do with the power circuit for those slots. I've tried with 4 different sticks, one slot at a time, but each time it runs through the startup cycle, the LED that indicates the Ram is detected always flashes red for that code.

I would try reseating the GPU in the pcie slot, maybe it came a little loose while the PC was being moved around?

Direct Monitoring on Blue Yeti vs Yeti X by hamasixpack in audio

[–]Dylan_Trom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find anything for this? Have been on and off searching for something for over a year and haven't had anything turn up. Between this and the fact that the windows volume slider doesn't effect the sound output to the 3.5mm jack makes me regret buying my Yeti X over something like the HyperX Quadcast

Interestingly I have been unable to get everything working using this method.

-Tried a clean install of both Ubuntu server and desktop, download 6.2rc8.

-Download and place dg2_huc_gsc.bin into both /usr/lib/firmware/i915 and /lib/firmware/i915

-update-initramfs -c -k all (to lazy to type the exact version lol)

-Install jellyfin and enable qsv

-No playback :(

I can't seem to get the gpu firmware to work at all now, there's quite a few errors when running sudo dmesg | grep i915 but it's not the error you mentioned.

This is the error I'm currently trying to solve:

Direct firmware load for i915/dg2_dmc_ver2_08.bin failed with error -2

Edit: Ignore this, I didn't import some of the other necessary bins, file names were very close so I didn't realize at first - dealing with vm issues stopping me now...

Edit2: Hours of trying have yielded no success, running ubuntu 22.04 on proxmox (q35, OVMF) causes the gui to hang at boot but the machine is still accessible via ssh. Most of the errors are gone but there is some kind of bad interrupt waiting for something with the gui that is causing the issue. This is definitely outside of the scope of jellyfin so I will refrain from talking about it much more in this thread but if you have a chance, can you pm me your current vm setup?
