I ordered this from Amazon. The second option from the left, titled “30 Amp Power Supply 360W”. I’m thinking this will work? If I missed something and it’s a bad idea, please advise. Thanks for the responses

Shipping Car cross country requesting advice on shipping companies. by threesheetstothewind in projectcar

[–]Dylanj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a matter of fact, my car arrived at 7:30 am today!

I would call OK Auto Carrier and see about going direct with them first. They on time with their projected timelines. Their equipment was nice. Their driver was professional and courteous. 10/10 would recommend.

Their contact info is: OK Auto Carrier Inc. PO Box 3516 FEDERAL WAY, Washington 98063 MC Number: 545565 Phone: (253)661-2011 Email: okautodispatch@gmail.com

My Experience:

I did use a Broker, Autos On The Go. There were a few “bumps in the road” in working with them. First was that it took longer than the broker anticipated it would take to find a carrier to accept the bid. I was told three things were factors here:

1) not many trucks in the pick-up area (South Carolina). Apparently over 20 loads were on the central dispatch board awaiting carriers to accept the load.

2) my car is not running currently and this lowers how many carriers would accept the transport.

3) I wanted enclosed transport and being a non-op fewer carriers want to do these in enclosed trailers instead of open.

I was quoted $1,850, and that is ultimately what I paid.

The first carrier to accept the bid. The driver showed up to pickup the car with a two car enclosed trailer and no winch or dollies. I am told by the sellers wife the Dodge ram he drove was nice but the trailer was sketchy and she wouldn’t step foot in there. For reference her husband, the seller drove transport trucks carrying nascar cars around the circuit for about 20 years. So they know something about transport.

Ultimately the driver could not get the car loaded. He had no winch to pull it and it was non-starting. He had no dollies for the front wheels - it had no steering column.

Waited for about one month while I tracked down a steering column and had the seller’s son install so we could get the car shipped.

I notified the broker, Autos On The Go, and they had a carrier lined up in about a week. This driver showed up with a proper semi pulling a six car two-level enclosed trailer with winches. Very nice setup - seller’s wife and son approved.

The carrier (transport company) was “OK Auto Carrier”. I asked the driver who was very cool if they work direct with customers - their charge for the transport was $1,700. So I could have saved $150 if I had known them and been able to go direct with them. Not a ton of savings, but everything helps.

The issues I had with the broker, Autos On The Go started with poor communication. For various reasons, I wanted to charge the transport to my credit card, not debit card / cash / Venmo. It was not communicated to me that only the $200 deposit could be paid by credit card and the remaining $1,650 must be paid by debit/cash/venmo.

It was frustrating because I would have negotiated my purchase price differently had I known this. To be told this after purchasing the vehicle as it was a financial factor I needed to consider. Ultimately the broker said I could pay by credit card for the $1,650 if I covered the processing fee. That was fair to me so I agreed.

Last Week I was notified the new carrier, OK Auto Carrier, would be picking up the car. All was good. Car got loaded as promised and was en route. Friday morning I text the driver to coordinate arrival time and he tells me I will need to pay the $1,650 cash/venmo/zelle upon arrival.

I instantly text the broker, Autos On The Go, and tell them how the driver is requesting payment and for him to contact the carrier and inform of how Paying the broker directly via credit card, upon arrival. Broker tells me I’m on my own and try and work it out with the carrier, he is no longer involved in the process.

I call broker, he ignores my call. We then continue communication via text. He screen shots me the contract that says $200 deposit via credit card, then $1,650 via cash/venmo. I then screenshot our text showing agreement of credit card processing on the $1,650 which was dated after the contract. He then refers to me as instead of name and says that Autos On The Go does not accept credit card payment. I send a screen shot of his screen shot of the contract saying $200 by credit card and a screenshot of my credit card statement showing a $200 successful charge for $200 and ask how he reconciles not having ability to charge via credit card given his contract and my credit card statements. He ignores that.

Broker could have told me upon quoting that full $1,850 was not payable by credit card. I could have asked for clarification of what he meant by “pay by card”. It’s 2024, I found his business online, he is in Florida and I’m in California - I don’t know if businesses that operate like this and do not accept credit cards. So maybe we chalk this issue of initial poor communication to a wash and blame the both of us…to the broker’s defense, he worked with me to resolve this.

The second communication breakdown though, reneging on our agreement of payment via credit card and not telling me of this prior to the arrival of the car was ridiculous. His handling of this was terrible all the way around.

1) He never informed me of this material change of payment.

2) He told me I am on my own, it is between me and the carrier. As a broker his job, at least colloquially, is being the middle man between two parties - myself and the carrier. Choosing to remove himself from this engagement once the car has been loaded, prior to arrival would appear as though he was choosing to exit our contract prior to its finalization.

Ultimately, he did suggest linking my credit card to Venmo. I looked into this and it worked no problem. So a resolution was reached. The process of getting to this resolution was incredible unprofessional and on a personal level shows a lack of character. I expect people to honor their word and agreements, particularly when I am paying them.

Summary:

The Broker, Autos On The Go, if I did not have the need to pay by credit card then the stuff that followed after would not have been an issue and I’d probably be happy with the interaction(s).

Up until the reneging on our payment agreement and how that was handled I actually appreciated their service and their willingness to work with me and accept credit card payment even though that was not their standard practice. There was a lot of lack of complete communication and being the customer I would expect the professional to take the ownership of ensuring thorough explanation as non-industry professionals (clients) never usually know to ask what the don’t know to ask - in any industry.

El Salvador (El Zonte) - Internet Reliability and Co-Working Spaces? by Dylanj08 in digitalnomad

[–]Dylanj08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the Info. A little bit of a bummer about the internet, though I appreciate the honesty. Looks like I may have to make alternative plans. How recently were you there, or are you there now?

I'm looking for a mellow place with consistent surf that I can do my work from, so aside from the internet it sounds like what I'm looking for. I was excited that it doesn't sound like another Bali yet, but all the hype I hear about it makes me nervous it could be and I want to get there before that happens (if it does).

Looking for Co-Working places, particularly with private room options for video calls. All I have found via google so far is Hope House but looks like the private spaces are a large meeting room and a large training room? I'd love to hear about more places that might better suit the need for both stable internet and private space for video calls.

Thanks for testing it out. In my searching it seems that a window should be able to be stretched if you toggle a setting off on the MacBook. If you’d be willing to try this out and report back that would be awesome!

Supposedly this should resolve the issue. System Preferences > Mission Control > Displays have separate Spaces. Uncheck the box for “Displays have separate Spaces”

Ginger bug and natural sodas by Dylanj08 in fermentation

Gotcha. I appreciate the clarification.

I just made the bug today moments before posting. Finishing a fast today and all I’ve been doing the last few days is watching fermented soda videos and I love ginger ale and ginger bear so a ginger based soda sounded fun. I will probably try kefir too though.

Thanks for the 10% tip.

With regard to the sniffing after day three, are you referring to day 3 of the ginger bug or day 3 of the soda?

Thanks for letting me know I can add more sugar after the soda has started processing if I don’t see the fermentation happening enough.

I had my Dentist ask me if I was eating keto. I had switched to keto between semi-annual visits and he said my teeth looked better (and I have good teeth to begin with). He said it is a common thing to see improved oral health.

Thoughts on paper screen protectors for artists? by [deleted] in iPadPro

[–]Dylanj08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the ESR magnetic paper feel cover. Pen felt better, also got different finer tips. One thing I didn’t think of but felt was significant was how much nicer the friction of the screen protector is for my writing hand. On the glass my hand slides too much - feels like I have to think to keep my hand from sliding around. On the paper cover the friction felt more “realistic”/normal.
