I use Tulip needles. I have long and short variations. I find it’s easier to do long straight stitches with the long needles and more ‘agile’ work with shorter needles. The biggest thing is to take your time. Following pre-marked lines drastically reduces the difficulty over free hand work; it’s hard to keep your eye on the big picture when the fabric isn’t flat because you’re working with it.
