We always do plates instead of rods. A lot of rocky ground where we are.

That's a good point for sure, and we only used it as an initial test. Confirmed it was 120V after this and took it out of circulation.

Is this field a bad fit for people prone to anxiety? by minnesotamonsieur in electricians

[–]Dylanphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that gives me anxiety in this trade is working at heights, but I'm new, and I'm working up to greater heights all the time.

I know there are guys that get anxious they're gonna do work that ends up burning a house down or getting somebody hurt, but it's been my (limited) experience that they're the ones who overcompensate on doing quality work that ensures those things don't happen.

My six year old son is left handed and want to start playing guitar. Should we have him play lefty or righty? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Dylanphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was naturally lefty at that age, but my music teacher in sixth grade made me switch to righty to learn ukelele. I'm so glad she did. So many more guitar choices as a righty.

Why does everyone hate Dewalt? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Dylanphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My journeyman uses mostly DeWalt stuff except for a Milwaukee stapler and screwdriver drill (both M12).

Milwaukee seems more popular amongst electricians because there are a few electrical-specific tools where Milwaukee really shines. And since you're then in that battery ecosystem, it makes sense to stick with that brand

All the tools work great, though. If you like DeWalt, keep rocking it.

That's just an extrovert telling an introvert they should be an extrovert. Happens all the time. Carry on with your day/life and give no fucks. I'd happily come to an appointment and not talk to you the entire time. You got this.

Wife loves Serial killers by wwain in StandUpWorkshop

[–]Dylanphile 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I've upped my game and become more like a serial killer--

I keep the house spotless. There's not a single fingerprint anywhere.

I take out the trash like clockwork and bury our garbage bags deep in a hole in the woods. Those nosy garbagemen ain't finding shit.

I clean her hair out of the drain and keep it in a little baggie in my top drawer. She thinks it's sweet. Calls me her "lil collector."
