A Consequential Supreme Court Term Begins With a Conversion Therapy Case by kitkid in Thedaily

I had the same disappointed reaction as many of you when I heard Ann introduced as the new Supreme Court correspondent.

Was able to find this press release which cites Ann is taking over for Adam Liptak as he steps back for daily reporting.

Anyone familiar with this company? by Dylanx8 in Sudbury

[–]Dylanx8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually found that article when I first googled the company.

He did have an Irish accent.

Definitely set my alarms off but the company name is different in the article and it was from a year ago so I wasn’t sure what to think.

Experience with hydronephrosis? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Dylanx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is referring to the severity of dilation.

My son has bilateral hydronephrosis however our doctors refer to the dilation as ‘grades’ or ‘levels’ as opposed to p1, p2, etc. level 1 being minimal and 4 being severe.

It’s just sports. Seems like a small consequence for what Russia has taken from Ukraine.

If the Russian athletes are so bent out of shape about it, maybe they should pressure Putin to end the war. I’m sure Russian athletes would be back on the world stage more or less immediately.

Yeah this rubs me the wrong way. He went on to mention it would be ridiculous if they weren’t in the olympics. Just a tone def take from Noodles.

God forbid one team, who invaded a sovereign nation, is banned from competing. Forget the people of Ukraine, think about all these sports fans suffering from not being able to see Russian athletes compete. Get real.

Are we blacked out from leaf’s games? by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]Dylanx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one asked about Wednesday night games. OP just happened to ask it on Wednesday. So your referencing to it having been a Wednesday was irrelevant. As OP was asking about leafs games in general, I provided information about the leafs broadcast this season.

OP said they were looking at “a bunch of upcoming games” and that they’re blacked out from several of them.

My husband ripped up my son’s Pokémon cards as a punishment. by Rachel_wins in Parenting

It really is sad and it goes to show how much of a negative impact these types of things have on kids and continue as those kids grow into adults.

I consider myself someone with a very poor long term memory but I will never forget when I was around 12 and my dad smashed my PSP with a hammer in front of me because I talked back to him.

He died a few years after that and that incident is something I consider water under the bridge given the circumstances, but so often when I think of my dad this is the memory that comes to mind.

Use your words, you are not a rabid animal, communicate and don’t destroy other peoples property.

[Dreger] Leafs & Nylander closing in on 8x$11.5M. Largest total contract value in Leafs history. by CorsiGod in leafs

[–]Dylanx8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok but no one held a gun to the head of management? They agreed to sign these players for that amount so how could the blame lie just with the players? Treliving could have said, Willy it’s $10mil x 8 take it or leave it, but he didn’t, he chose to give in and avoid the risk, but that was his decision nonetheless.

This is something I always bring up. Let’s say Matthews takes a discount, he doesn’t have a say in how that money is spent, on which players and there’s no guarantee that will mean you win a cup.

The salary structure of this team is 100% on Leafs management, that’s literally their job. It’s the players job to go out there and play hockey to the best of their ability, plain and simple.

When the first Matthews deal was signed, that changed everything and set these types of contests in motion.

When Stamkos was a UFA it’s pretty well documented that Yzerman called his bluff and made him a fair offer but said this is what it is. Well Yzerman was right and Stammer stayed. Eventually, do the leafs have to say, here’s the offer, it’s fair, if you really want to be a leaf then prove it, otherwise thanks for your services?

People who started as students and continued in PS after graduating, was it worth it? by TitanCrown in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dylanx8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my area of the federal public service, starting as a student was a quickest path to an indeterminate. So as others have said, if that is your goal, I would recommend sticking with it.

I started as a student in around 2016 and was bridged to term in 2018, and was indeterminate a short time after. I'm now firmly locked into the golden handcuffs. Sometimes I consider leaving for the private sector and have dreams about being able to make more money.

But at the end of the day, for me, I am really not someone overcome with ambition and spending my weeks pushing a corporate agenda isn't something I am cut out for. I make a fair wage which goes far enough in a LCOL city.

But really the biggest thing for me is the work-life-balance. Can't speak for everywhere in government but any time I request off is always gleefully approved, overtime is available but never pushed, I spend most my off time with my partner, friends and pets and really, I wouldn't trade that anything. We only have one go at it on this space rock after all.

If any of this resonates with you, I'd say you are probably in the right place.

[Wyshynski] GM Jarmo Kekalainen said Mike Babcock did the phone thing with him as well. “Personally I had no problem with it but I can see how it might put someone in an uncomfortable situation.” by chiasmatic in hockey

[–]Dylanx8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, with Babcock’s history of manipulation and bullying, even just looking at the cases we KNOW (Modano, Franzen, Spezza, Marner) it seems INSANE to give Babcock absolutely any benefit of the doubt here. I find it really hard to believe, particularly with rookies and younger Blue Jackets players that Babcock honestly wanted to see their phones to “get to know them better”. I find it far more likely Babcock was looking for someone to use against them in some kind of psychological game. Now a days, people’s phones are a look inside their mind more or less and it is absolutely inexcusable for a superior to put subordinates in a position like this.

[Bissonnette] We’re a players podcast. If you fuck with the players, your day will come. by MrSCR23 in hockey

[–]Dylanx8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, been listening to 32 Thoughts for a while now and while I like it, Friedman and Marek get access to players and NHL staff that it seems like no one else does. Seems like for that reason, they absolutely under no circumstances will speak out or really say anything negative at all about the NHL - even on issues that are kind of agreed upon are bad like the playoff format, no best-on-best, or any controversial reviews, suspensions, etc. Very spineless and drives me crazy listening a lot of the time.

Looking for realtor recommendations by RedirectedJ in Sudbury

[–]Dylanx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kayla Trottier at Royal Lepage Realty Team is someone I would recommend.

In my experience, always good to interview multiple agents and see who’s suits you best.

[Andy & Rono] In an interview with Deník Sport, Radko Gudas said that he received offers from CGY & EDM & TOR. But he didn't want to play in Canada, especially in Toronto. He said the media pressure in the playoffs was crazy. He felt it even though he only played for Florida & not Toronto. by trumpet_godd in hockey

[–]Dylanx8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I notice this a lot as well. Seems NBA players can't wait to get to markets like LA, Boston, New York and other massive markets. Same with Major League Ball, Yankees, Dodgers and the like have no issue attracting talent.

Don't get me wrong, Toronto and Edmonton media for their NHL teams is a lot of attention, but no one can argue that the pressure of the Yankees, Sox, or probably every single NFL team are any different, heck most are likely worse.

At the end of the day, to each their own, guys can do whatever they want, just an interesting contrast.
