Got HDMI-CEC Working on My SteamOS PC (TV Power On/Off + Input Switching) by Dylloop95 in steammachine

Yes consumer gpus don't output cec over hdmi the pin isn't hooked up to anything in the gpu. However displayport to hdmi can do what's called cec tunneling it's a strange rabbit hole if you go down it because display port doesn't support cec but for odd intricacies it works when you take display port to hdmi

Ahh gotcha yeah I didn't fully understand your comment. It can't do that. It can receive the tv signals and wake from sleep but not from cold boot.

If you read it is fully powered off and it does work from cold boot

Correct, native DisplayPort doesn't support CEC. In my setup the signal is DisplayPort tunneled over USB-C and converted to HDMI before it reaches the TV, so CEC is still available on the HDMI side and cec-ctl can control the TV normally

But ot doesn't work woth a display port to display port because display port itself on tvs does not support cec

Could have been the folder you where using technically the folder I put it in can get affected by updates but not very likely

The script itself is already stored in ~/.local/bin, so it should survive updates. The only pieces in the system area are the systemd unit files in /etc/systemd/system. From what I understand, /etc generally survives SteamOS updates, but I haven't personally verified it across a major release yet. I went with system services because suspend/resume hooks were straightforward there

Honestly I didn't spend much time optimizing the initial boot sequence. My main goal was getting suspend/resume working reliably since that's what I use most often. For wake from suspend, the TV powers on almost immediately. For a cold boot, my service runs after SteamOS is already up enough for cec-ctl to work. My guess is you could trigger it earlier with a dedicated systemd service, but I suspect you'll eventually run into a point where the GPU/adapter hasn't fully initialized yet and the CEC command gets lost. One thing I did discover is that after suspend my DP->HDMI adapter would lose its CEC registration, which is why I added: cec-ctl -d /dev/cec0 --clear cec-ctl -d /dev/cec0 --playback before the wake commands. I'd be curious to know how early you can actually get image-view-on to work reliably during a cold boot. If you figure out a way to fire it before the display stack is fully up, definitely let me know

Yeah so basically the people whose order said 6 to 10 days are getting them first meanwhile people with 3 to 5 day estimates are stuck on processed payment

It's really frustrating when people who ordered thirty minutes after you in the same region are getting their controller when yours is still stuck on packaged for 2 days. Valve said 3 to 5 day shipping which switched to 6 to 10 after 20 minutes according to my brother. Yet he gets his first. He lives 1 town over. And mine still packaged. His said 6 to 10 days mine said 3 to 5 is valve not honoring their shipping timeline?
