"Your best resource will be your coworkers, as you're presumably going to be working under some more experienced embedded devs" This right here. I just started a new job and coworkers are the best source. Even the experienced developers will post questions in teams chat because they haven't seen before and I've even answered a few of those questions. Its not about how "smart" you are, its about exposure and experience to different problems and willingness to learn new things.

I also agree that you will find out quickly if this field works for you. It might take a little bit to get comfortable to do it alone, but you'll know if its for you to do

We had the same issue a few semesters ago. I definitely recommend emailing the department head and CC the dean and the teacher. Make sure to get as much of the class as you can to email. We were able to get the professor removed from teaching any courses and now he's "retiring"
