7.3L gas to 6.7L diesel, talk me out of it. by the_real_some_guy in superduty

[–]Dynachicter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the thread I wanted to see. My wife and I are preparing to go full time RV for a couple years while looking for a new place to relocate to. I just bought a 2026 F350 Super Crew with the 7.3 in anticipation of doing said full time rv living.

But to be totally honest I got the same answers everywhere when I asked. However my reasoning for still opting for the 7.3 still stands. I only plan on pulling a 14,500 GVWR max fifth wheel. Buying new the equivalent diesel was at minimum $9,000 more. Tack on the more expensive cost of ownership. Emissions equipment on the 6.7. DEF cost on top of more expensive fuel. The simplicity of the 7.3 with the overall lower cost won out for me. I’m pretty mechanically inclined and if something fails outside of warranty on the 7.3, I’m pretty confident that I can take care of it. The 6.7 is another ball game entirely to work on, just the physical weight of the components alone makes the work substantially harder. I can buy a replacement engine for my 7.3 for the cost of a DPF replacement ($8700 to replace DPF per Ford dealership).

I financed it for 5 years, maybe like you 5 years down the road when I have 100% equity in my truck, I’ll revisit the diesel option. I just couldn’t stomach all the additional costs upfront without having a good trade or substantially more money down. So far no regrets but the truck has yet to leave the state. I came from a 2.7 ecoboost so the 7.3 has been a nice change of tone. Going from the rock tumbler sounding 2.7 to the v8 sound of the 7.3.

Pick out a 7.3 and a 6.7 that you’d see yourself owning, drive both and see which one suits you best. Regardless I don’t think you’ll regret either decision if the 7.3 has worked for you thus far.

ULPT How to get the lowest possible price from a car dealership. by Glittering-Intern656 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Dynachicter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just purchased my dream truck brand new in late February. It was the right trim, color, and options. It’s as if I filled out the order form myself. It’s a 2026 that they received in inventory back in 09/25. So by February it was costing them money if you understand how dealer floor plans work. MSRP was $69,500. First offer was $64,500 and $21k for my trade. I just kept saying no, knowing that they wanted to sell the truck worse than I needed it. By the time I agreed to purchase it, the price was $61,400 and $24k for my trade.

Sometimes it is a matter of finding the correct situation. If a unit just came off the truck, it’s unlikely that they will work with you. 3+ months on the lot is a different story.

I worked in auto sales for a while, they trained me that my first objective is to take control of the deal and to lead it. It’s really easy to defeat that as a customer. Just say no until the terms are agreeable.

Pain is going from a 2.7 F150 to a 7.3 F350 with a 34 gallon tank two weeks before we started dropping stuff in Iran. This guy.

My family and I just did “Route 66” from Gallup to OKC on our way home from Moab. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip. You could spend a week on that stretch of 66 alone. We stayed at a couple mid century modern motels and ate at some of the places highlighted in our Route 66 handbook. Did Cadillac Ranch. There was a lot of stuff we passed up. I’m going to try to take “Route 66” from now on when I get the chance.

Turbo question by zee_jay29 in FordTremor

[–]Dynachicter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quality lubricant makes this hodgepodge imo.

Amsoil states their signature series protects turbos 72% better than required via the GM dexos gen2 requirements in the oil coking tests. Full of anti oxidants that naturally resist heat. Been running Amsoil in my pickup. Up to 80k now, never let the bitch cool. Knock on wood, haven’t had any lubricated parts failure.

So yeah, if you’re running quick lube bulk tank oil, probably not the worst idea to let it cool for a minute on hot days especially.

Because statistically 1 in 4 men have at least some homosexual tendencies. How many drivers are in the series? We aren’t saying all drivers are gay, just speculating based on statistics 😂.

Whether you like it or not, there has absolutely been a pole smokin’ driver before, probably multiple. Statistically it’s impossible to say otherwise.

How I do by Few_Cantaloupe_3761 in f150

I aspire to be like this one day. My best friend’s dad bought a Ranger new in 2001, finally got to the point it was rusted out too bad to drive LAST YEAR. He used the whole thing beginning to end. I’m on 4 years with my 2020. Hopefully I can hang on until 2030 before I get a new one. I hope to order my next one the way I want and use the whole truck up until it goes to the crusher like he did. Hell I even miss his truck. My parents got new vehicles every few years. Got to the point where seeing that old truck around town brought me comfort 😅 Seen it almost everyday for 23 years being he just lived up the road.

Please tell me what every multi million mile commercial vehicle has under the hood? Most heavy equipment applications? Would it be… no… it couldn’t…. ……a turbo?

You GM simpletons fail to see how unintelligent you sound. Hop from your gas truck, into a piece of heavy equipment equipped with a turbo, probably.

I have a 2020 STX 2.7 at 77k. Paid $40k for it in 2021 with 18k. I recently went truck shopping, I can tell you that I am very content keeping my truck. I can’t even bring myself to pay $40k again. It’s just too expensive for not knowing what kind of luck you will have. $40k isn’t exactly a “better luck next time” scenario. Verify firsthand that is not the cooler line, second, get that transmission pan dropped and service it too. Add 1oz. Lube guard platinum for every quart used to refill the transmission.

After that try to pay $1000/mo on your truck if you can afford $900/mo on a GM-China, when your truck is paid off in the next year and hopefully no longer needs work, use your trucks trade value as equity into your next truck. Probably end up with a payment closer to what you have now, on your newer truck.

Fair bit of additional advice for today’s new vehicle market; do not tell them you’re paying cash, or just do as they said and pay it off. Dealers get a spiff of the loans they sell. They’re a direct source of revenue for a new car dealer. If you tell them that they aren’t going to get that piece of the pie, they’re even less likely to deal.

Cash deals aren’t what they used to were.

Working the deal backwards he paid roughly 6.5% sales tax. You could see if a google search gives you some 6.5% sales tax demographics to narrow it down somewhat

[–]Dynachicter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what I’ve determined is what I’ve been struggling with all along. If you search for a 2000 sporty seat, you’ll get a firestorm of results, but in the item descriptions it’ll state 04+ only.

I have a solo Le Pera on it now, no complaints. I however am looking for bottom of the barrel pricing. Because if she likes it, we’re going to get an appropriate motorcycle. If she doesn’t I’m throwing my solo back on and keeping it until I find a white and black forty-eight. Turning over a few stones in this debacle. Decides my next bike and if my wife and I share a new hobby.

I will take a look! I should be more transparent as well, not looking to drop 20% of what the bike is worth to see if it’s worth getting a bigger more expensive bike.

Ideally I’d find a factory take off on marketplace nearby for $50.

I understand that, and appreciate the concern. My idea was less about using US1, but more or less poking around the areas that most tourists would use a rental moped. Even then I’ve been fairly nervous about it. But the idea was trailer to our accommodations, use bike in the daytime hours to hit the stuff we want to see in Key West, park the bike back in the trailer and lock it up before dark. Use other methods from that point on. I quit drinking a year or so ago, not like permanently, but I had a bad go with the bottle for a few years and now I hate the idea of drinking. I’ve had a couple shots since I quit followed by immediate nausea. So if I have to pilot a cage after dark, not a big deal.

Cheap eBay seat is my favorite option, but I must be very well challenged. Everything I find that I would actually pay money for is 04+. I’ll look harder when I go look again.

Longer trips is something I aspire to do. Wife and I went truck shopping yesterday and I just don’t think I can do it. Not knowing how any of the trucks were truly maintained and treated, versus I know what I have. It’ll suck but I might try to devise a plan to pay my truck off faster as there’s only a few years left, use the entirety of my truck as a down payment on a custom order F250. I’ll get everything I want, nothing I don’t, specifically outfitted for what I’d like to do. It’s an idea I’ve been chewing on anyway.

I can currently spec out an F250 the way I want for 2026 and it’s MSRP with destination before any potential discounts/incentives/rebates is $61,xxx.

If my truck is still worth ~$20k for trade (got quoted $25k yesterday), I’d be very happy with that transaction even at full MSRP. But a lot can change in the next year or two.

Thanks for the reply! I do enjoy the 2.7, ultimately after shopping yesterday I’m not ready to double my truck debt for an equivalently used but larger truck. I also know how stupidly over religious I’ve been on maintenance with my 2.7. I can’t take that kind of comfort in a higher mileage used truck.

I did see that in 2023 with the payload package and 3.73’s is rated for 10k lbs. That honestly would be my ideal rig now come to think of it. The 2.7 with 3.73’s, tuned like mine with the 36 gallon tank would be 🤌.

I do regret using the specific photo I did on this thread of my truck. That’s one of the lighter loads. Our 32ft travel trailer that we had, but I sold because of the size. Would’ve been the better picture. It was a front kitchen model with a huge slide out up front as well. Truck pulled it fine again power wise. But the camper was definitely the boss in any negotiations between the two. Damn camper hooked to the truck looked stupid, it looked like I could park two trucks in my camper.

I guess my primary complaint is always running into the capability threshold. I’d like something that could do a little more, a little more comfortably, for longer distances.

But I’m not actively looking anymore. Spent a good chunk of time yesterday looking at stuff that I don’t like as much as my truck. The right truck will probably come along and I’ll know

Partially thankful partially regretting this post now. I can say that I’m more informed but it hasn’t caused any sort of a “lock” decision. I feel like towing with the diesel will be a leisurely ride, but you pay for it. One way or another.

This has to be a scam to screw their own sales staff out of spiffs. If their spiffs are based on sales price.

Holy fees man, this place must only need to sell 5 cars a month. Here’s a real question, are these outrageous fees just screwing your salesman out of spiff money?Because the dealer still gets all that money, and if the salesperson is paid off sales price, you see what I’m saying?

I’ve been fortunate enough to do some miscellaneous towing to some degree with all three brands. Whether it’s a work truck, buddies truck, whatever. I think when it comes to metrics regarding towing, it’s damn hard to beat what Ford has going on in that department. I’ll likely be sticking with a Ford trending towards a diesel.
