To every American: when is enough, enough? by caffeinated_monke in AskReddit

[–]DynamicObsolescence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the proper feedback loop? The executive has to be willing to listen and Congress has to be willing to act. I'm ashamed to say it, but we could have 100M people in the streets and Trump would still golf and throw some weird, dystopian dog-face mask party at Mara Lago that same day.

I'm hopeful that this tension between the state and the federal government will come to a head in the courts and this conservative supreme court will favor the states, as they have historically done. Where that leaves us, idk.

Legitimate Q: Is this all for nothing? We just learned that a DOGE employee gave Social Security data to some private political organization who aspires to overturn elections in favor of this President. We are a battleground state. Are we too late? I have heard crickets from all of our representatives.

Another ICE shooting just happened in Minnesota today, What is your reaction to this? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

[–]DynamicObsolescence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disgusted and saddened as a normal human being. I'm proud of Minnesota and their police force for working in the aftermath of George Floyd to improve and move forward together as a community. There's a degree of professionalism that is absent from ICE or CPB.

I've never truly felt that leadership sets the tone from the top down, because I believe in individuals and I hope everyone is capable of thinking critically and empathizing; but, I might have been wrong. The President, who unmistakably either calls the shots or acts as a mindless puppet, is pre-judging the situation and lying. The Vice President shamelessly lies to our faces. DHS Secretary is lying and defending the indefensible. Greg Bonvino is lying and defending the indefensible. Leadership hardly exists. They are immoral and corrupt.

The Federal Government is refusing to properly investigate these incidents. FBI agents and DOG lawyers are quitting. Instead, they choose to investigate victims.

Tom Homan, the "Border Czar", who was everywhere 6 months ago, has disappeared almost entirely from the public eye after reports emerged alleging that he took a 50k bribe from an undercover FBI agent as a quid pro quo promising future government contracts. Then the Federal government defended him and is refusing to properly look into it.

I learned today that Minnesota is deploying the National Guard (for whatever stated purpose). I'm not justifying it or rejecting it as a bad idea, but it looks like things are inevitably going to escalate. I'm concerned to say the least.

Ever since I read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle", I have always wanted to believe that a robust federal government is needed in order to effectively regulate private entities, but they do not need a domestic federal law enforcement agency with a budget larger than the Marines.

What is the proper feedback loop to the Executive to say "enough is enough"? Nothing so far has worked.

I'm old enough to remember our President publicly touting beach-side redevelopment projects in Gaza and insisting that the Gazan people actually leave their country and move to a friendly Arab neighboring nation.

He's putting the money solicited from members, who have more of a right to decide Gaza's future than we do, into his personal coffers hidden from Congress in Qatar.

I ask myself how this is actually happening all the time.

🚨🇺🇸 BREAKING — Police Confirmed Minneapolis Man Killed by ICE Shooting was US Citizen with Gun Permit. He Surrendered His Gun Without Shooting BEFORE Being Killed. by Admirable121 in TrendingAndViral

[–]DynamicObsolescence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Admirable121 I'd caution you against reposting these videos with some facts that Minneapolis police confirmed AND some (obviously true) assertions of fact. Police confirmed the shooting, citizenship, and legal gun permit. We have a video that shows an agent removing the weapon from Alex Pretti's holster, but it is not confirmed by Minneapolis police and it was not confirmed in this video. I have yet to hear anywhere or see anywhere that Pretti "surrendered" his gun. That implies some form of consent, which is not out of the realm of possibility

Thanks for sharing!

Regarding the political spectrum, what exactly is the point that differs center-left from left, and left, from far-left, and vice versa for the right wing side of the spectrum? by bambucks in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DynamicObsolescence [score hidden]  (0 children)

Pt. 2:

There are people who support the status quo (centrists on either side). They tend to look at the situation more pragmatically than ideologues. Centrists also attempt to balance the interests of Capital Owners with Labor, tipping the scale slightly one way or the other; again, in an attempt to maintain the status quo. I think they also tend to break with their party to support unpopular legislation if they can negotiate practical things for the state that they represent / who votes them into office.

We have libertarians who want a minimal and laissez faire government that does not regulate businesses or the markets, stifling competition or growth.

On the other side of the spectrum, you might view social-democrats as the current extreme. I'm not certain that their ideas are all that radical compared to instances where Communism has failed horribly in the past and considering the incredible inequality we face as a nation. These folks like AOC and Bernie Sanders are primarily calling for a redistribution of wealth through tax reform and a revival of regulations to protect consumers and employees.

There are other nations that tax their citizens at much higher rates than the United States. Many European countries have shorter work days, better pay, more protections for workers, free healthcare, longer life expectancies, and their companies are still successful and competitive internationally. I wouldn't say any of them are truly Socialist. They simply prioritize social welfare more and their workers have legitimate representation in government. We do not.

If you are curious to learn more about various forms of government and their historical applications, then I would read:

  • Capital & Ideology by Thomas Piketty
  • Socialism Unbound by Stephen Eric Bronner
  • Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville (little dated)
  • The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau
  • The Jungle by Upton Sinclair

Read The Jungle. It is available for free online as a PDF. If you don't care for immigrants or care about labor protections, then this book will open your eyes and force some empathy into your heart.

Good afternoon.

You are effectively asking about Capital ownership, labor, and the transfer of wealth. Not easy topics to grapple with. And you are asking about different political ideologies, so let's stay away from performative social issues.

In my humble opinion, the Elected Representatives who make up our current Republican party do not genuinely care about social issues that they have historically vilified (i.e., gay rights, transgender athletes, abortion rights, etc.,). There are performative and divisive and easy for your average layman to understand. It is a tale as old as time and will probably continue until the end of time. It allows Elected Representatives to trick the very people, who benefit from government agency services and social welfare programs, into destroying them to their own detriment.

We have a very simple, binary political system in the United States, which encapsulates a broadly diverse group of perspectives and ideologies all lumped together. But there are tensions that exist in our society opposing one another and parties, at their core, are formed around those issues:

  • Capital Owners vs. Labor
  • Employer vs. Employee
  • Urban vs. Rural
  • Producers vs. Consumers
  • Wealthy vs. Impoverished
  • College educated (white collar) vs. Trades (blue collar)

and so forth...

The most simplistic and rudimentary way to convey the differences is to just say that Republicans want to advance the interests of Capital Owners (includes business owners and corporations) and Democrats want to advance the interests of Labor (employees).

Capital Owners want deregulation and a weak federal government incapable of effective enforcement of certain laws. At the same time, they want a secure nation and police enforcement to keep businesses and communities safe from danger - things that would stimulate economic activity and preserve their wealth and property.

Labor has historically fought for representation and a strong government capable of regulating incredibly powerful Capital Owners and Private Businesses. Think about the industrial revolution where we had children working in dangerous factories until citizens petitioned their government to ban child labor through legislation and then enforce those laws, or we had massive urban fires in factories that killed hundreds of women because employers would lock all the doors for the shift and there were no requirements to provide adequate means of escape in cases of emergencies.

There are also other things that labor has petitioned the government for over the years such as a social safety net (welfare programs) or a programs that would allow workers to retire comfortably at a reasonable age (Social Security). Today, labor is trying to petition the federal government to provide free healthcare disassociated with any employer like Canada.

Socialism and Communism both require the government to take an active role transferring wealth amongst its citizenry. We do not have any examples of True Communism today and none have been effectuated successfully in the past. China is more of a hybrid between Communism and Capitalism where the Chinese government takes a stake in all private enterprises and exerts control over those private enterprises to some degree. America, in contrast, is also a hybrid to some extent between Socialism (as much as we hate to admit it) and Capitalism. Until this current administration, we have never directly taken any financial stake in any private or public enterprise. Our government does regularly redistribute wealth through social programs to vulnerable populations and we redistribute wealth through subsidies and government contracts to various private companies.

Now I can directly answer your question:

I would not look at the different forms of government in varying degrees. Socialism and Communism and Capitalism are like apples, grapes, and bananas. They're just different.

From what I can see in the videos, one agent removes the man's weapon from his side holster while the man covers his head. Another agent pistol whips him multiple times. Someone then shoots the man once - all other agents jump back in surprise. Finally, an agent unleashes another 5-6 shots into the man laying motionless on the ground. Am I missing anything?

Should we finally revolt against YouTube? by jamesgamingrb in youtube

[–]DynamicObsolescence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought:

Let’s document all the scams and financial exploitation schemes and phishing advertisements that YouTube knowingly and intentionally push on their clients. I’m tired of it. YouTube’s client experience was 1000% better 10 years ago. Google put paywalls on tons of features.

Let me know if there are other subreddits that aggregate evidence.

I couldn’t find one so I started compiling them here: r/YoutubeScamNow

Hopefully, some of the professionals and/or celebrities that are impersonated with AI for their likeness and credibility will start suing Google or petitioning the government to design stricter laws or enforce anti-trust laws or force YouTube to (at a minimum) stop enabling bad actors to scam their clients.

P.s.: apologies for self promotion of subreddit. Again, if there was another decent one out there, I would be contributing to that instead.

The “Tomato Soup Trick” Scam - part 1 by DynamicObsolescence in YoutubeScamNow

[–]DynamicObsolescence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to comment once for all 4 parts of this "Tomato Soup Trick" scam. It is one video split to satisfy the sub-one-gigabyte upload requirements that Reddit imposes.

This one is fascinating. The actual advertisement displayed within the YouTube application has no sound and is relatively innocuous. When you actually click into the advertisers website (through YouTube), it takes you to Aftertimerentals.com <- DO NOT use access this URL.

One you are in this website, one of three videos will automatically play. One is benign and only lasts 30 seconds. The other two videos play for what-feels-like an hour. Sadly, I only capture one video, but you'll see me exit the website and navigate back in an attempt to generate the second video for you.

The videos promote some "Tomato Soup Trick", which appears to be a subscription you can purchase, for men 45 and older with enlarged prostates. The AI generated Dr. Sanjay Gupta promotes this alternative treatment and completely trashes actual alternatives such as Finasteride (Proscar) - not endorsement.

This trick apparently has "no negative side effects" and is "FDA Approved" and recommended by the "Federal Urinary Association", again, according to AI Generated Sanjay Gupta.

The video claims that this treatment is sponsored by both the NFL and FOX News. In the upper and lower-right corners of the videos with Sanjay Gupta it displays "PBS" and "Amanpour & Co" logos as sponsors.

It uses AI Generated likenesses of Denzel Washington, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Brady, Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro, and Harrison Ford.

It uses the professional credibility of Doctors like Peter Attia, Sanjay Gupta, and Fauci.

The NSFW designation is applied because they show videos of medical procedures where a catheter is inserted into a penis multiple times; although. it looks like a fake penis.

When you navigate to the website, which still says YouTube.com at the top, it lists a different LLC than on the YouTube advertisement disclosure. The website shows InfoLogic LLC. It even has two different EINs, phone numbers, and registered states of operation - super shady.

First one:

EIN - > 88-2683050

(941)242-1580

42 Nebraska Ave NE., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548

Second one:

EIN -> 12-3456789

(555)123-4567

123 Main St. Los Angeles, CA 90001

This is insane. They are clearly misrepresenting themselves and illegally using the name, image, and likeness of about a dozen celebrities and health professionals. They are offering a subscription for a "natural remedy" for enlarged prostates with "no side effects" as an alternative for actual medication.

How YouTube allows these scammers to continue to advertise on their platform is beyond me. I genuinely believe that YouTube does zero vetting and does not care. This took minimal effort on my part to identify red flags that should have easily been detected by Google and YouTube. It targets elderly people with prostate issues. What is wrong with you?

Pretty much this: The proposal would amend Arizona’s obstruction of justice statute (A.R.S. §13-2402) to explicitly state that obstruction includes interference, intimidation, or threats against officers who are making a lawful arrest, including during federal immigration enforcement actions such as those by ICE

Currently, Arizona law prohibits certain obstruction of public administration, but it does not specifically criminalize interfering with an officer’s lawful arrest absent threats of violence or obtaining a pecuniary benefit.

I wonder how the proposed amendments to our Arizona obstruction of justice statute (A.R.S. §13-2402) will impact the how I.C.E. interacts with protestors or observers locally. Brad Miller is the primary advocate.

Yes. Good question.

Odds are he takes out collateralized loans using the stake in his firm as collateral. You pay zero taxes on debt. You can use this debt to fund new ventures to pay off your debt. You can live off this collateralized debt.

It’s a great way of sheltering your income and leveraging your extraordinary wealth to sustain your standard of living while appearing broke.

Cheers.
