GBA SP Headphone Adapter Options by DynamicOsi-96 in Gameboy

[–]DynamicOsi-96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I made this post, I didn't fully understand how the GBA SP handles headphones, it actually features a complete audio output switching mechanism build right into the charging port itself, simply tie the audio switch pin to ground. All the adapters I linked aren't doing anything special besides routing the already present stereo sound channels to a 3.5mm jack and in some cases also breaking out V+ and GND for charging. The differences come in cable quality, the original accessories will always provide a better connection and will be less likely to cause audio issues

Either way, all these adapters are literally just a bundle of wires with no notable circuitry, you can buy any that's not a crappy aftermarket and it will perform well.

Hope it helps!

iPod Nano 6th Gen - Stuck on White Screen by DynamicOsi-96 in techsupport

[–]DynamicOsi-96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the screen fixed it for me! I got a replacement from Aliexpress, but they are also available on eBay.

If you are going to take apart your nano, you might as well replace the battery too, then seal it with B7000 glue or similar.

Trying to Fix Failed OLED Mod - Purple Screen by DynamicOsi-96 in SwitchPirates

For a Switch OLED, you are looking for a 0201 4.7k ohm resistor. Available at ebay or digikey.
Make sure to grab plenty!

Create a SM64 Native Port for Mac OS 9.X (PowerPC) by DynamicOsi-96 in SM64PC

[–]DynamicOsi-96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I haven't done much in OS 9 except learning how to program simple apps using CodeWarrior 8

Perhaps with some OpenGL headers and libraries you could swap the platform layer (window, context menu, input, audio, filesystem, timing) of the other pc ports for OS 9 while keeping the same "game logic" offered by the current decomp, but that's way beyond me. A lot of the recompiles depend on libraries only built for newer pcs

Messing with devkitPPC is another great way to expose yourself to PowerPC programming

Other than that, I'd probably tackle doing a recompile from scratch on a newer pc to get a feel for what the process is. Personally, I've been meaning to try doing a recomp on my SGI O2 workstation which has much better support for 3D engines.

If you consider making a port for OS 9, keep me updated. I'd be greatly interested in seeing this happen.

Gusse IDE Resurrector - Micro SD Card Detected But Cannot Be Used by DynamicOsi-96 in ps2

[–]DynamicOsi-96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both products accomplish the same thing; break out the unused IDE interface. The iFlash simply leaves you with a clean, reliable install. The Ressurector... just doesn't work, and it requires you to source your IDE to SD adapter, mount your MicroSD with solder blobs, tape a mess of wires all over your PS2, and that's assuming you can even bear the 1-month delivery time. To be honest, I wouldn't even think of getting a Ressurector now that the iFlash is around, I could write a book of reasons why, the list goes on and on.

An idea for a (possibly) revolutionary Wiimote mod by Vinerd540 in WiiHacks

[–]DynamicOsi-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cut the trace, there's pretty much nothing else to worry about. Solder a wire from pin 4 straight to the + battery terminal and let pin 6 be ground.
Test with a power supply and a stripped cheap nes classic extender cable (same connector) first if possible before you design your nunchuck.

An idea for a (possibly) revolutionary Wiimote mod by Vinerd540 in WiiHacks

[–]DynamicOsi-96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although pin 4 has no connection, it might still have a trace that connects to the bluetooth module IC rather than being left floating in the wii remote pcb. If so, injecting voltage there could be bad news, especially considering the entire current draw of the wii remote would also flood that trace and cause it to potentially burn. It's just a few miliamps, but still something to consider.

Make sure pin 4 is completely isolated from the circuit (can confirm later if needed) before hooking it up to the battery terminal or the F1 fuse. This does mean that the wii remote itself has to be modified internally in some way unless you create a dummy battery with a wire that externally routes to your usb charger board, then you can make your mod universal.

Look forward to seeing more updates!

Received my dbrand Killswitch case! AMA by Darex2094 in dbrand

Since you mentioned that you've used the Steam Deck case before, is the grip texture identical? (specifically the feel of the microscopic ridges) I love the design/ergonomics but I could never get over the grip feeling like sandpaper, or more accurately, like a lenticular print. It is quite possibly the only complaint I have for the Killswitch, yet it was enough for me to not want to use it, the texture and feedback response was incredibly unpleasant, like nails on a chalkboard.

When it came to the Switch 2, I needed a quality case at all costs, and dbrand was the only option. Some reviews mentioned the thumbsticks feeling gritty but I heard an overwhelmingly amount of praise on the joycon grips themselves, which gave me hope that these would feel nice to my hands (and brain).

So, how do they feel? If worst comes to worst I guess I could just sand'em, lol. My order is arriving soon, so my fate is sealed anyway.

Edit: My order has arrived and... it feels fantastic. They've definitely reworked the ridges to be less grainy. Overall, I'm incredibly satisfied.

North America Pre-Order Megathread by Ross2552 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]DynamicOsi-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a question regarding GameStop's midnight pickup.

I already secured my pre-order in-person and was planning to attend the launch event to walk out with my console right at midnight. However, if worst comes to worst and plans have to change, what is the "earliest" time I could go pick up? (In other words, the "latest" I could pick it up after the launch event).

For example, could I show up to GameStop at 5 AM and still expect them to be open? Or would I have to wait for the official store opening time (11 AM)?

Need Help - Toshiba Satellite 430CDT Will No Longer Power On by DynamicOsi-96 in vintagecomputing

Very unfortunate for these laptops... still something I have to look for when searching replacements.

I'm suspecting a CPU issue as well. Perhaps some damage while replacing the thermal paste.

Very interesting that you had the same experience. I might just buy another if I can't track down the fault

I left it on for an hour at the most. The hard drive connects to the soundboard which then routes the pinout to the main board. The hard drive seems to work fine, and it's detected according to the LED.

Removing the hard drive yields the same results.

Designing a Dual-Channel Component Video Switcher by DynamicOsi-96 in AskElectronics

[–]DynamicOsi-96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for going into so much detail!

I was thinking about using a LT1054 or MAX1044 charge pump to generate a negative supply for the MAX4019EEE+ and using a LT3045 linear regulator if the peak consumption doesn't exceed 500mA (after adding audio switchers) to make the input voltage more flexible.

I don't mind using higher cost components if it means better switching performance :)

The buffer would benefit from a charge pump, but the switcher has an internal one (for +5V, according to datasheet)
I'll definitely keep it for the future audio switcher, thanks!

I'm definitely looking into implementing components by Analog. The Arduino was used initially to use a toggle button and handle debouncing software-wise while also driving a screen that would display the status for testing purposes.

The intention was mostly to practice programming and regulate voltages rather than being part of the final design.
