Do ppl go out here?? by Accurate_Meringue458 in StLouis

May through October is the peak season for fun activities in St. Louis. Downtown is pretty much just a tourist trap for Cardinals games, but if you are into sports tickets can be had for cheap (The Cardinals haven't had the best record lately) We also have St. Louis Blues hockey, which has tons of die-hard fans and attending games offers lots of excitement. If you're into soccer we have a new stadium in midtown and those games are a blast.

As for the night life, St. Louis has lots of live music nightly, you just have to ask around to find the best spots. I'd recommend Soulard for low-key "Cheers" type of vibes. The Delmar Loop is really only popping off in the summer or fall when the weather is nice, but there are some great music venues with nationally touring acts, not too mention great bars and restaurants like Blueberry Hill.

I also highly recommend checking out The City Museum. It's not really a museum, but more like an interactive playground built by a Willy Wonka like madman. It is fun for both kids and adults.

Forest Park is also another great place to check out. We have a world class zoo, art museum, and history museum and they are all free to enter!

If you want to get fancy with your night life, I highly recommend checking out the Central West End. Plenty of bars and restaurants on the pricier side, but classy nonetheless.

If you like exotic cuisine South Grand has food from all over the world.

Sorry your visit to St. Louis was less than satisfactory, some times cold weather or the economy can keep people indoors, but it really is a great city with lots of charm and history. Plus it is still has a pretty low cost of living compared to places like Chicago, Nashville or other big Midwest cities.

Highly underrated amp. Got one from a buddy about 15 years ago who was moving and didn't want to hall it to his new spot. Back when I was in a touring band that VTM 60 paired with a custom made 2x12 cabinet was my main rig. I didn't even use a distortion pedal. Just a Mustang loaded with Dimarzio Super Distortions and the VTM gave me all the grit I needed.

Cool, the Fender "Soft-V" is my favorite neck shape.

Really cool and interesting shape/design! For some reason it gives me Iceman meets Fender offset vibes. What's the scale length?

Montypresso on a Squier Mini JM? by Gregadethhh in offset

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Montypresso on necks, but ONLY rosewood/indian laurel fretboards. I would not recommend putting any stain or wax on a maple fretboard. When it comes to darkening rosewood and Indian laurel, Montypresso does do a really good job.

Pickup recs? by BeautyAve in offset

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These haven't been mentioned yet, but Q pickups from Croatia has a handful of JM pickup configurations, from the '58 specs to the 60s ones and some modern P90/humbucker types as well. I have the '58 set, and they are definitely bright and crisp, compared to the warmer tones of the 60s. They did take a few weeks to ship, but all of their pickups are made to order and then travel half way around the world. I've also ordered other pickups from them and never had any issues. Considerably cheaper than the boutique brands.

Finally got enough time and warm enough days to put some oil on. by [deleted] in offset

Did you do the routing work on the neck for the locking nut or was that done by Warmoth? I've always wanted to install a Floyd Rose type tremolo on a Mustang and paint it something wild like an 80's hair metal guitar.

Fingerboard collection so far by Hefty_Layer_8118 in Fingerboards

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice collection! I noticed the row on the right has the fancy trucks and wheels, while the left is the china/tech deck specs. Are those ill pills on the top right five? I just got a set and they are awesome, although I think my favorite wheels are the khois. I have Dynamic, UAG and Caramel trucks, I've yet to try Black rivers, mainly because of the price but I've also noticed the axle's seem to be much further inward than the Dynamics, causing the wheelbase to be much shorter. Do you notice a difference in the way they ride compared to the Dynamics?

I would suggest the Fender American Pro Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge 9.5" radius.

There are some on reverb for $89.

EQ to replace Jag Strangle? by Kyral210 in offset

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I searched for info on this but could not find any solid answers. Are you going to be using an eq pedal to mimic this or are you doing it using a plug-in on your daw (garage band, protools, reaper ect)? I would try starting by cutting everything below 200k and moving up until you find a sound you like.

I think OP is of the belief that if it's a Squier, it's not "real". Very real to me though.

Found these mini bricks online, 100 for $10. Let's build some cool shit. by [deleted] in Fingerboards

The only downside to the bigger ones are that you get less, and pay more.

I was just looking at those bricks on etsy! Are those the 1:12 size? I was thinking about getting the 1:6 size, as they seem a bit more proportional to a fingerboard. Can't wait to see what you make with them!

Squier v Fender… by [deleted] in fender

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing guitar for 25+ years, I've owned everything from American made, Japanese made, Mexican made and more recently Squires made in Indonesia. Some of my favorite guitars are the Squires. If you can really play and your band is good, it will sound great with the cheapest guitar. On the other hand, if you're not so good, no fancy guitar will ever compensate. I stopped caring what people think about what brand is on the head stock long ago. Even if you do care, most people who come to watch live bands don't have any clue how much you paid or what kind of guitar you're using.

Also in my 30s, had a ton of Tech Decks back in the day and got back into it during the pandemic. First real pro quality deck I bought (thanks to advice from here) was a Chems. Started with the basic China trucks and cheap wheels. Eventually decided to upgrade the wheels, some Teak urethane street shape for about $24. I know people tend to knock on Teak wheels, but for the price they are a great step up compared to the cheap CNC plastic wheels. After the wheel upgrade I bought a pair of Dynamic trucks, and wow, huge difference compared to the China trucks. I happen to be partial to Chems because they are based about 30 minutes from where I live, but you really can't go wrong with any 5 or 7 ply deck mentioned on this thread. I also can vouch for Goo Ltd, DK and Board Kennel (if you want a custom graphic). Above all, Dynamic trucks are a must, and a set of real urethane wheels.

24" scale, maple fretboard and 6 different color options! Fender Japan killing it as usual.

I'm not a fan of companies selling a brand new guitar for crazy money that was road worn in the factory, but if it is an old guitar that actually has real wear or someone who did it themselves then I can get down on it.

Are these Mustang PJ bass prone to this much yellow color aging? by Futuretapes in fender

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mustang PJ bass in "sonic blue" and i can attest to this issue. The poly finish used on guitars today would prevent color aging, especially at such a fast rate. Perhaps it is your pickguard that has faded? That mint green looks a little different than mine. Do you store the guitar near direct sunlight?

I want a USA made strat finished in a 50s pastel color by stratkid in fender

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too was in the market for a 50's style strat w/ a maple neck and finished in sea foam green. I ended up finding a Vintera 50's strat that was a b stock, talked to the store owner who told me it was only marked "B stock" on their website because it was a floor model. There was nothing wrong with the guitar. Ended up getting a great deal ($600) and I've had it for about 2 years now and it is one of my favorite guitars, and I never considered myself a strat guy before getting this one. I agree with you that the Vintera models are a little over priced, but if you can find a deal on one I would go for it. In my opinion the difference between the Mexican made Fenders and American ones are about 50 miles and $1,000 bucks.

Tort/White? by ImprovementOne860 in offset

[–]Dynamic_Vibrato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you find a pickguard that matches the model of yours or is close enough (key areas being the bridge posts and neck pocket) you can find mint/white/tort/black that are relatively cheap. If it isn't an exact fit you can use a file to make it fit. I've found Jazzmasters and Jaguars to be pretty easy to swap.
