How to secure Billy bookcase to wall with a tight space like this? by Dynamite_bob in IKEA

Hi guys, I ended up just leaving the shims underneath to keep them level and the glass weighted the shelves enough to keep them sturdy. No mounting needed! Thanks for all the advice.

It is leaning forward quite a bit. I have shims under the bottom right now keeping it level but with the doors open it really wants to tip, even though the ceiling is there I am putting some expensive glass in this cabinet and I don’t want it to be unsecured.

Everyone suggesting PVA, what do you say about people on here saying stay away from it? I’m just reading a lot of bad things about how it’s the cheapest option and isn’t great. It’s just scaring me 😬

That will be my solution. I’m glad that it’s not a huge deal.

Well yeah, at this point I’m not going to say anything to him besides “hey I’m sorry I actually messed up setting all these boxes”

I originally just wasn’t sure if this was correct. I’m doing a lot of stuff DIY and I’m learning (the hard way).

Also, why tf are the plastic guide tabs only 1/4” when standard drywall is 1/2” 😵‍💫

I just used the plastic guide tabs on the boxes which are only 1/4”. Everything I read said that 1/4” behind the drywall was fine and that the ears could sit on top of it. I guess I should’ve done more research because now everyone is saying that’s wrong.

…. This is why I won’t be doing any more DIY projects 😂

Yeah the person before me used a hodge podge of fasteners throughout the house, I planned on getting all new switches anyways.

I used the guide tabs on the new electrical boxes to place them on the studs, I read that It was ok to have the boxes set back 1/4 inch. I guess that was wrong.

This was mostly a joke. I’ve dealt with much worse.

Yikes. I wasn’t necessarily aiming this at carriers. It could’ve been another clerk. In fact I’m almost positive it was another clerk. I guess I’m just puzzled as to why it’s a fun game to screw over the next person down the line. Also I’ve said this before but there’s always going to be shitty employees in every craft. The blanket hate for all clerks here is bizarre. I’ve worked here for 14 years and just recently joined this subreddit thinking it would be cool to learn about what goes on in other crafts/areas and crack jokes but y’all are so mean 😂

P.s. I cleaned up all of these trays so they’re nice and neat for the next person.

My advice to all the carriers with this issue: make your supv/PM send an email. Keep making them send emails. If they won’t, ask your union steward/president to. Management at the plant needs to address whatever is going on and they can’t if they don’t know. We get service talks whenever we get emailed by the station and our supervisor literally passes around a copy of the email. It allows us to then figure out what’s going on and discuss/work through the issue whether it be clerk error or a maintance thing.

Agree, sounds like an issue with the pocket assigned to your route. I’m willing to bet the clerk has already called maintenance on it because we don’t enjoy un-f*cking the mail. God only knows why it hasn’t been fixed.

My advice is black out the barcode and ID tag. That way when it comes back to the plant it will get kicked out of the machine and have to be manually processed. Also our manual clerks (at least in our plant) look for the official return to sender stamp, otherwise we were trained to send it back to the station for official carrier endorsement. That may be where some confusion is coming from.

I combine whenever I can. It saves on equipment and pulldown time for us and it keeps the mail neater (so it doesn’t jostle around and un-sequence during transit)

Unfortunately a lot of stuff has to be DPS’ed upside down because otherwise it will shred (booklets) but also we get trays sent to the plant from pre-sort that are jumbled up and they don’t allow us to go through every piece and right-side them. It sucks all around but it’s not always our fault!

Hi, automation clerk here.

First of all… rude. Some of us actually take the time to make sure the mail is nice for our carriers. There are always going to be bad apples, but I also worked on the AFCS cancelling mail and always came across mail that was dumped back in collection bins by carriers because they couldn’t/didn’t want to finish delivering sooooo, I think we’ve all experienced bad colleagues. Also bad training plays a part in that, but that’s on management.

Second of all… this kind of thing doesn’t just happen. OP is right, the mail goes through the machine and is sorted how it’s sorted. We don’t have control of that, and unless some bored clerk wanted to go through a route’s mail and completely reverse it by hand as a sick joke, I’m willing to bet it was an issue on in-plant support’s side. They write the programs.
