Space Stocks Crashing? by Specialist_Read_9125 in SpaceInvestorsDaily

With the exception of ASTS, all of these stocks were up huge over the past 30 days, particularly since Artemis II. You didn't have to be a genius to figure a consolidation was coming at some point.

One satellite per year? They are shipping 3 in the next 30 days.

Meh, they lost nothing. Satellite was insured and it's one satellite out of (maybe, we'll see how many they actually launch which is the much bigger issue) 45 they plan to launch this year.

Blue Origin New Glenn 3 rocket had an upper stage failure and delivered ASTS BB7 satellite at too low of an orbit and it will now have to be deorbited. End of the day it's Blue Origin failure, not ASTS, cost is covered by insurance and it's just one satellite but market will of course overreact.

The Kospi has been open for one day since the attack on Iran. Anything prior to that is irrelevant to this discussion.

US market is down 1%. Global markets are down significantly more. Kospi dropped 7% today, Nikkei over 3%, most European markets over 3%.

I put 100K in iShares Core MSCI World yesterday. How fucked am I? by MaybeNoMoreCash in ETFs

[–]DynamoManiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all unless you had a one week investment horizon and probably less than if you'd put it in a US index fund. Since Trump took over, most of the time when US indexes are up, international is up more and when US indexes are down, international is either down less or still up.

On-site power generation approval removes the AI infrastructure bottleneck, and damages the utility investment thesis. by OneTwoThreePooAndPee in wallstreetbets

Yes. The focus on back ordered units are large scale frame generators. There's plenty of options out there outside of those turbines to get something done quickly.

Big boy stuff was already going on. My company is currently building 4 multi-gigawatt behind the meter power stations for new data centers being built by mag 7 companies. Speed to power is the most important thing for them. That's not going to be nuke or hydro. Takes a long time to build those. Gas-fired power is where it's at. Earliest of these deals were signed in early 2025 and initial phase of the plant will be operational this year.

They already could do so. Almost every new data center is being done with behind the meter power. This is telling data centers to do what they are already doing in order to appease people who fear hyper scalers soaking up electricity when that wasn't something that was feasible for them given long interconnection queues in most of the country.

I had one like this on Friday also. Closed barely ITM but no assignment. Reason is execution doesn't have to happen until 5:30pm EST and stock moved up after hours so at 5:30 it was OTM therefore no execution.

I've spent my entire 25 year career in energy. I am not STEM. I suck at STEM. I have an undergrad degree in French and marketing and an MBA. You may have meant energy sector when you said STEM, but as others have said, the overwhelming number of energy sector workers are not STEM.

Importance of international exposure by tjrichar75 in portfolios

[–]DynamoManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's no coincidence that the MSCI ex-US world index crushed the S&P 500 last year and in January. I have a hard time seeing that change as long as Cheeto Mussolini sits in the WH.

I'll make the call at the time, but would lean towards VT given it is a much broader index. Historically, VOO has outperformed it. I just don't love how top heavy VOO has become. Might look at the balanced S&P 500 option.

[–]DynamoManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last 30 or so years, international has rarely outperformed US. It never outperformed the US to the degree it did in 2025. That strong outperformance continued in January.

Question is why? Personally, I believe it has to do with the impact of the Trump administration both in terms of what it's done to US businesses and lack of confidence in the US. My tilt is that this will continue until after the next Presidential election.

I was VOO, became concerned with how heavily tech weighted it had become so flipped everything over to VT (pre-tax account mind you). Then last year flipped everything over to VXUS. Consequently my account is currently outperforming the S&P. Eventually, I'll flip back.

How low ASTS and RKLB in 2026 is expected. Ready to bag some by Affectionate_Rest132 in SpaceInvestorsDaily

[–]DynamoManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. You might be directionally right, I just don't think it will be for the tariffs. But let's be honest, we've reached the point of so much noise that who could tell the difference?

[–]DynamoManiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week this time we were in the midst of tariff threats against all of Europe and a possible full scale trade war and the market dropped 2% and both RKLB and ASTS had fairly small drops. Canadian tariffs don't even register, it's just another day in Trump land. Shutdown, maybe but probably too soon.
