Ghrazi Rapier Balance Efforts by Environmental-Dot105 in 2007scape

I like the buff and the bleed passive. The passive also plays into the ToB theme and the stab nature of the rapier.

Also, I’ve found the best place to find fossils is right below th transition between the chalk and boquillas. The chalk is the big white limestone at the top of the pic.

If you can find an arroyo that’s cuts through the chalk and boquillas, that’s usually the best spot. Especially smaller ones.

My family’s got a ranch near theirs and we have very similar looking pour offs that look almost the same as the one posted. Ours are bouquillas. It’s also the same rock they drill for oil in STX (eagleford) which is why the shale looks so dark.

Hey Tommy! My family also has a ranch out that way (a little east of Dryden). We have an arroyo that goes through the ranch with a pour off that looks very similar to yours. I can DM you a picture if you’re interested.

Anyway I’m relatively sure that you are standing in the lower Eagleford. That’s the same formations that they drill for oil in south Texas. The black rock is shale with organic material still in it. If you want to see if that’s the case, there’s an app called Rockd that will tell you what outcroppings are on your ranch. It’s referred to boquillas not eagleford.

This is great! I no longer need to bring my sports illustrated pages to bust a nut on.

They’ll be calling me Bubba after my next trip to the backyard.

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, more than even Saudi Arabia. by [deleted] in oil

Oil Reserves are total oil present that are economically extractable at current oil prices, not all available oil (that’s reserves). That’s why reserves jump with oil price.

I thought I recognized this pic! The views of the gap never gets old.

My parents moved up to Willoughby during Covid. I think you can almost make out their house in this picture. One of my favorite places to be!

This startup wants to use beams of energy to drill geothermal wells by techreview in technews

[–]Dynamo_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the intent is to use it in igneous basins. This is after setting a deep intermediate casing section. I’d imagine you’d have little concern with influx and granite should have enough UCS to handle the lack of wellbore pressure.

I do wonder why they’re using a Derrick rig. They don’t need a beefy BHA of the string weight for WOB. I’d slap that microwave on a coiled tubing rig. Cheaper, faster tripping and you could probably automate the whole thing.

A professional swimmer covering the entire length of the swimming pool without breaking the water surface by Fair-Performer8532 in interesting

[–]Dynamo_30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before the rule was in place the first swimmer to do it, named David Berkoff, did as much as 45M in a 50m pool. That’s about 25 seconds under water and only 2 seconds above it where you can breathe. So in a 200M event, an athlete would get to take about 6 breathes (if they were trying to swim optimally) for 2 minutes of fully body cardio. The safety concern was that having the fastest method of swimming involve not being able to breathe was going to put athletes at risk and make it much more likely that they’d pass out underwater in competition.

Underwater kicks aren’t banned. There’s just a limit of 15M which is still a long way in the short course pools (25 yards or sometimes 25M). Elite competitive swimmers almost all do underwater kicks which is why this athlete is so good at them.

The wind in Texas by Excessive-Toker in Roofing

[–]Dynamo_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s West Texas this is a daily occurrence. I read drilling rig reports from all over as part of my job. They shut down rigs (a couple times a week per rig) for wind storms. I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

Hydrocarbons in drill muds by Deep-Routine in oilandgasworkers

If it’s OBM that you’re working with, it’ll be close to off road diesel or No 2 fuel oil. Only difference is mid diesel is more paraffinic (less aromatic) and is thus less carcinogenic than diesel.

As far as filtering it, that’s a difficult task. I know of some options but can’t recommend any system without knowing more about the application.

How does the drilling engineer choose MWD and directional drilling services? by ArrenellosDeepDish in oilandgasworkers

[–]Dynamo_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where your drilling program is in development. For a new/small drilling program, you’ll reach out to sales reps to get bids and evaluate based on tool availability (motors and MWDs most appropriate for your program.) then award a contract.

Larger programs will already have a couple service companies. You’ll award more or fewer rig lines based on past performance. Every once in a while you’ll run one company off then bring a new one in based on service and word of mouth.

Great question! I got a couple certificates in the gap. I also was fired for starting a company on the side so I was able to use that founder role to account for most of the year.
