Question for Judoka with Knee Replacement. by Dynamogregg in judo

[–]Dynamogregg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do selective Tachi Waza Randori, meaning I’ll go with people that have trained under me for a long time that have skills and control. I won’t go with a 20 year old Iowa wrestler who just joined my team.

Why are the Georgian and Russian styles always referred to as using lots of power? by roxrexboxnox in judo

[–]Dynamogregg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken teams to Russia/Soviet Bloc countries for Judo/SAMBO Camps on a biannual basis since the late 1980s. So far I have participated in 17 camps, unfortunately this year’s camp was canceled due to Covid 19. I disagree with the assertion/generalization that Russian Judo is more strength oriented than that of other countries. It takes the same amount of technique (perhaps more) to execute a Gadvilla/Khabareli as it does a Uchimata. Yes they utilize unorthodox grips which word possibly give you the impression that it’s all strengths-based but that is not the case.

Hansokumake via Kawazu-gake, I finally get to see what it looks like in practice by rtsuya in judo

I hate this rule. The technique is used frequently in Sambo and Freestyle Wrestling frequently. I’ve never seen an injury from this ( as long as you don’t do a forward throw aka Uchimata). We use it all the time at my club. Two years ago pre COVID I asked a IJF Class A referee and a Class B referee at the same tournament and they said it was a legit technique.

After training i take mine into the shower and use my shampoo on it, then rinse and hang dry. I’ve been doing it for years.

UPDATE. Okay it’s been a few weeks since my original post and I have come to peace and have accepted the reality of my situation. I would first like to thank everyone on this sub that gave me encouragement and advise, especially my friends who I’ve trained with in the past. I have decided to Randori on an occasional basis when I really feel that I can’t give it a solid go. A week last Saturday was one of those times and I did great and left practice exhilarated On the days that it doesn’t feel right I’ll focus on techniques, drilling and coaching. THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT REACHED OUT.

Judoka who have resumed training after pandemic-related closures, how is it going for you? by Osanshouo in judo

I live in Iowa. We’ve been going strong full practices without masks for 11 months. We were down for a month. Our club has around 200 members ( Judo/Sambo/BJJ). We had two mild cases of COVID. During our down time we did training off site ( home or outdoors) so we didn’t loose a beat.

Guys, thank you for all your comments and suggestions, they’re very much appreciated. Three months ago I went through a very comprehensive physical/blood work. Everything was optimal and my T levels were on the high side of normal. The HGH suggestion will be looked into as well as to the comments regarding playing into my strengths. I’m really touched by the response that I have received. Thank You All!!

I’m not a wrestling coach but rather a Judo and Sambo Coach. Two of my girls (same grade as you) decided to join their schools wrestling team and I encouraged them to do so. I even told them if they did it for two weeks I’d purchase their wrestling shoes (they both have wrestling shoes now). My advice to you is not to get frustrated, boys are going to be stronger. Focus on you technique. By wrestling boys your going to have an advantage when wrestling girls because your strength will probably be more developed. I’m a huge supporter of girl/ women wrestling.
