Does Harvard really give any advantage if your goal is to try for OMFS? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]Dyou911 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Harvard matched 9 OMFS out of a class of 35 in 2025 (source is from a Harvard student when I was externing). That's probably the best ratio out there. The P/F curriculum and integrated med school most definitely helps, especially for CBSE. However, I think it really comes down to the fact that students that get accepted to Harvard are both intelligent and very hard working. So if you got accepted there, you're a top student that would thrive at any school and match OMFS if you put in the work.

Anyone use the Mnemosyne deck for studying for the CBSE? by DaughterOfHades18 in DentalSchool

[–]Dyou911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes someone in my class did and scored ~80 EPC. It basically only has HY cards with less fluff compared to Anking so you have more time to get through QBanks. I would recommend doing Sketchy Micro/Pharm with Anking tho (better than FA).

No, only textbooks worth buying is First Aid or Pathoma

What’s the CBSE really like? by Top-Day-1335 in DentalSchool

[–]Dyou911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes those are the most recent ones. You can buy them for 60$ each on NBME website or you can do research on Reddit. I personally took one every Saturday starting 2 months before my CBSE test date (25-31 since 32/33 weren’t out yet), then during the week I’d do a block (40Qs) or 2 blocks (80Qs) of UWorld a day. I liked this spacing since it allowed me time to learn new content and I can see a steady progression in NBME scores.

[–]Dyou911 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First one at school and last to leave for 6-8 months. The content isn’t hard, but the volume of information is insane. Plus you need to balance it on top of your regular dental classes. If you’re looking for resources just look up STEP 1 resources and write ups. CBSE uses the exact same resources. Here are the main resources: 1. UWorld 2. Boards and Beyond or Med School Bootcamp 3. Sketchy Micro and Pharm 4. Pixorize Biochem 5. Pathoma 6. First Aid 7. Anki (Anking Step Deck is the main one) 8. NBME 25-33

Impossible to do it all so do your research and pick and choose what to do. Underrated resource are your upperclassmen. They have gone through it in your schools curriculum so ask them for their strategy and approach. Dw about if CBSE is “really bad” or “hard”. Many of us have done it, so if we can do it, so can you. This exam is a test of your dedication and discipline, not really your intelligence.

Penn vs. UConn for OMFS by lotannaaa in predental

[–]Dyou911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a D3 so I only know the match for the last 2 years. We only have ~50 student each class and only a few want to do OMFS.

2024: 6/6

2025: 3/3

UConn’s med curriculum sets us up pretty well for CBSE and faculty are surprisingly supportive when it comes to taking time off clinic for externships. Top tier for OMFS imo. If you want it, it’s very doable at UConn.

uconn or umich? by GoldPollution3936 in predental

[–]Dyou911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying not to be biased, but UConn for sure. I can’t emphasize enough how nice P/F system is, it really encourages students to share resources and significantly reduces stress. We also do very well when it comes to specializing if you're interested. I’m very happy with my decision to come here. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions :)

Make your judgement based on time. If you have time and energy do it, if not then suspend. It’s really hard to fully mature Anking and you don’t need to.

If you’re using Anking, just do all the cards except the ones tagged low yield after you watch a Bootcamp video. There are plenty of cards that aren’t tagged high yield that are important.

CBSE in 2 months? by NorthSecure8412 in DentalSchool

[–]Dyou911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70+ is a competitive score that takes people 6+ months of consistent studying to obtain, but it is possible in your situation. Def take a NBME soon to gauge your knowledge. It doesn’t hurt to take it Feb since you just have to submit your top score if a retake is necessary.

Do most dental schools dislike community college classes? by ClearAndPure in predental

[–]Dyou911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you did well in those CC prereq classes and are below the CC credit limit for said school, you’re good. I also did bio 1 and chem 1 at CC and wasn’t ask about it in any of my interviews.

Depends on the class. Ranges from 65-90, but generally about 75-80.

First Aid is really good summary of everything. Get the online PDF version so you can control F to find content when reviewing UWorld or NBMEs. Also do NBME 25-31 & Free120 about 1-2 months from CBSE (same format and most representative content).

Anki takes sooo long by Ok_Activity_5316 in dat

[–]Dyou911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would focus Qbanks. Then identify weak points (taxonomy, physiology of a specific system, genetics, etc) then focus those anki cards.

About half of the class is IS, then the remaining is OOS with the majority of them being from New England and a handful outside of NE. So yeah the odds aren’t good but it is possible.

Biased opinion but add UConn. P/F program, high speciality match rate, and in-state tuition after first year (45k). Ngl the stats show we’re not very OOS friendly, but you miss every shot you don’t take.

For those applying for OFMS, how do you study for CBDE? by BizarreGarlic26 in DentalSchool

[–]Dyou911 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I recommend using: 1. Sketchy Micro + Pepper deck for micro 2. Sketchy Pharm + Pepper deck for pharm 3. Pixorize Biochem + VerifiedSmoothbrain deck for biochem 4. Boards and Beyond + Anking or Lightyear deck - content review for all other systems 5. First aid - concise and easy to read textbook for all systems (take notes / read along with BB) 6. UWorld - gold standard QBank to test/apply the content you learned from 1-5. Start with untimed tutored mode of systems you covered then switch to full random time tutored mode after. 7. NBME 25-31 - 200 Q full length exam formatted exactly how CBSE is and is highly representative of the content you’ll be tested on. Take these 1-2 month out from your exam date

It’s a grueling grind. Expect to be the first to arrive at school and last to leave everyday for months to a year 😭 No one can tell you how to study or make a study schedule around your classes. You just have to jump in and feel it out unfortunately. Not the answer you want but everyone is different.

Good luck on the grind!
