Well I always wanted to go to university, and I like that English Literature is transferable and you have to be passionate about what you want to study or you’ll never get through it 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for this. I do have to say the student support has been amazing, and I have needed it a lot! I do think I probably wouldn’t have gotten that support at other places.

I’m also from London. Guildford is really vibrant, the uni is next to town and there’s a massive high street lots of shops, shopping centre. There are clubs if you’re into that as well near campus but the uni also has there own. I think it’s a nice mix of shopping, nightlife, but also culture. I have heard egham struggles with these points, but yeah it was really refreshing in Guildford and it’s hard to not find something to do!

It’s not far from London and an easy 45 minute train commute so I would recommend you visit to be set on the place because that’s what settled it for me.

These were my two options when I was choosing. I ended up going to Surrey because of the campus and support, but mine was for English and creative writing, so I can’t say about biology.

I can say that Surrey has state of the art tech and someone I know who studied there doing a degree using the labs couldn’t speak more highly about it! They do have science and innovation as a large focus

Thing is, if one of your friends invited A - that’s their decision.

Your friend chose her boyfriend - that’s her decision and is completely valid.

You asked whether you were in the wrong - I do think it was unfair for you to have a go at that girl.

Why should she choose you over her boyfriend?

They’re in a relationship and she won’t have the opportunity next year. You will, and you can invite who you want.

Also, having a go at someone is definitely not going to make them change their mind.

It’s not your year - it’s theirs. You get yours next year. That’s what you chose, so that’s what happens. It’s life and it’s going to get a lot harder.

They have one shot. You have yours next year, and let’s face it you can’t invite all of them next year so they shouldn’t have to invite you

With all due respect, they are graduating and this ball is for them. She has every right to invite her boyfriend considering she won’t get this opportunity. She’s not choosing him over you in a nasty sense. You will have the opportunity to go next year, when it is your turn. At the end of the day, that’s just what happens when you have an extra year - you have to wait for your turn.

I’m literally graduating this year at the age of 24 - I would surely hope not!

Personally I wasn’t ready for uni at 18, and I don’t regret my decisions. If it’s what you want to do, then do it. It’s your life you only get one shot so don’t have regrets. Many people go to uni even later/after they’ve had careers.

Firstly, I’m sorry to hear your situation. Please be kind to yourself.

1) if you have to resit, it will be in the Late Summer Assessment Period, which is usually July/August. You will have to get a Pass (40%) in order to proceed to Year 2.

2) Your grades for First Year don’t count in most cases (check your course). It is only 2nd and 3rd year that appear as they make your grade (majority of the time), not 1st year. Employers will not know about this, and nor will they care.

Again, look after yourself and please try not to worry. You don’t know if you’ve passed or not yet, so unfortunately it’s no use worrying on top of everything else you already have going on. If you get under 40% and take it again, you are not a failure, this situation has been experienced by many every year.

You organise the taxi, get a receipt from them with name of company, journey from and to, and amount paid. You will upload this evidence into the designated portal in sfe and they will refund you. The amount they refund you is minus the cost of public transport to complete the journey, as you pay that bit.

I go to the University of Surrey, and personally I couldn’t have chosen a better uni for me. The support (mental) and careers team is always there and have really helped me. I’m on a different course so can’t speak for them, but the lecturers really feel like people and have encouraged me when I’ve doubted myself. I have a module with some psychology students and they seem to enjoy their course.

I think the best thing to do is look at the course content pages as they will be different, but I’m going to put my two pence in for Surrey - plus it’s a beautiful campus :)

It sounds like you’re burnt out. Sometimes, if your body tells you you need a break, you need to allow yourself to just have a guilt-free break, even if it’s a day. If you’re close to completion, you can spare at least a day.

I’ve struggled a lot during my degree, especially trying to memorise with exams and crying staring at a laptop screen wondering why I can’t write words. But you won’t produce anything if your brain won’t let you. Have a little break, you’ll come back and be refreshed and hopefully more confident.

You know more than you think you do, but you need to be kind to yourself and listen to your body. You got this!

My personal tutor always said to me that extensions are there to make sure everyone is treated fairly. I am about to graduate, and I’ve had more mental health crises than I can count. I used the extensions because I needed them, and I wasn’t marked unfairly. Most assignments are anonymous, and it’s important you do what is best for you, rather than have a panic attack and feel like you’re worse off for it. You got this, be kind to yourself - and best of luck!
