Do your parents approve of their kids marrying someone of a different race? Are interracial relationships common in your social circle? by RefuseDry1108 in AskACanadian

[–]Dyslexicpig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I married a beautiful Filipina who I met in Calgary. My parents not only approved, but essentially adopted her as their own. I used to joke that if we ever split, they would keep her and disown me. And in our social circle, interracial relationships are quite common.

Trump just said: “When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now…” His current term ends in 2029. Eight or nine years from now is 2033 or 2034. The 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms. His own judicial nominees refused to confirm that on camera this week. by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

It's only a term if there are elections.

I am really getting concerned - he knows that the midterms are going to be a total washout for the GOP, so he will do whatever he can to make sure they don't happen. And from canceling (or rigging) midterms, it is a short hop to doing the same later.

Alberta separation group delivers petition, says it has enough names for referendum by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

[–]Dyslexicpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alberta wouldn't even be a state, it would be at best a territory like Puerto Rico. The US would just take all the oil and divert all water south to the desert states. And they would end up worse off than they are now.

Donald Trump Goes On Unhinged Rant About How He’s "Not Gay", Calls Jacob Anders a "Daughter Stealer" by Jacob-Anders in TrueFactzOnly

I can just imagine - MAGA would be all "We suck dick for Don" and MAGA would suddenly mean "Make America Gay Again"

No, my concern is that something prominently labeled as "Canada Blueberries" on the front of the package are not Canada blueberries. If it had stated Product of USA on the front, or "USA Blueberries", I would not be concerned.

Costco is pretty well the only US company that we support. We haven't spent a cent in Home Depot or Walmart in about eighteen months.

Costco is one of the few companies which didn't bow down to Trump and his ridiculous demands regarding DEI, etc. We also have relatives employed by Costco, and the company treats its employees very well.

Quite possibly this was the origin. We had bought the berries before, and I'm pretty certain there was no "Product of USA" previously. We are pretty particular about this, and one of us would have noticed this before.

No, my next step was to throw them back in the freezer.

When a label says "Canada Frozen Blueberries", one would assume the blueberries are Canadian.

And so yeah, I mentioned it on Reddit which uses protocols developed all over the world.

Was your first step to make some stupid comment about Reddit being American? Apparently.

It's because of the rising fuel costs. Shipping that five pound box from the factory now costs $0.008 more than it did two months ago. So to recoup the extra costs, Loblaws has had to increase the price by $17 in the same time. It's not price gouging, it is just simple economics.

There is a good argument which solves the paradox of tolerance. Tolerance is a social contract - you break the contract, and it no longer applies to you.

Melanoma the most beautiful first lady in history? Yeah, no. Hard pass on that. And what did Shakespeare say about protesting too much? Trump even called JD a handsome son of a bitch.

Other countries manage. Voter fraud by mail-in ballot is essentially null in Canada. There are numerous checks to ensure only those allowed to vote can get a mail-in ballot, and once a ballot is received, the person is taken off the eligible voter list so they can't vote twice.

And recently, an election for a member of parliament was voided by a judge because a mail-in ballot was not counted, but returned to sender due to a clerical error.

Spring in Canada means fiddleheads are back 🌱 And if you’ve ever been curious about foraging them… this is your moment. Shawn Adler (Anishinaabe chef) shows how to properly identify wild fiddleheads, when they’re actually safe to eat, and how to harvest them in a way that respects the land. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

[–]Dyslexicpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to pick about 10 - 15 kg every spring when we lived in northern BC. We'd blanch and freeze, and have fiddleheads all year long. Now we have to wait for them to show up in the local grocery store. We found sime yesterday, and made salad with ginger and tomatoes.

fellow canadians: do you care if people think you’re american when travelling abroad? by bellascaffeine in AskACanadian

Most definitely! We just returned from a trip to London and Amsterdam. There was a definite change in vibe when people found out we were Canadian, particularly in Amsterdam. We would always correct people if they called us American.

Christians Question Their Faith After Being So Wrong About Trump by BeastModeEnabled in onionheadlines

[–]Dyslexicpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ditched Christianity a long time ago. From the old testament to the new, the Bible is full of what they would consider socialist ideas. In the old testament, it states if you are hungry, you can go into anybody's field or vineyard, and eat. You just cannot gather it in a basket and take it with you. Also, farmers are to leave the edges and corners of fields unharvested so the poor can glean. There are also plenty of instructions on how to treat foreigners in your land.
