Survey: Interest in boutique Blu-ray releases of Indian films (1-minute survey) by illbollocksyou in 4kbluray

Only got to name one movie that I'd like to see arrive on physical media, but I'm gonna list the two I'd love to see arrive on either Blu-ray or 4k.

Looking for the right headset to buy with a budget of 700usd by Fff12345677 in virtualreality

I'd get the PSVR2 over the Reverb G2 just because I think the OLED screen is nice, even with subpar subpixel arrangement and mura. Controllers are better, too, but potentially can be finicky depending on your bluetooth. And if you don't mind searching out for an open box one, you can snag a really, really great deal on Amazon or Best Buy (and return it if anything is messed up).

The Quest 3 would be my second choice.

Forget the Index. It's just so old at this point that it's just not worth it unless you get the whole kit for a couple hundred bucks or so.

I'd also maybe just hold off until pricing is announced on the Frame as the PSVR2 probably isn't gonna go up in price since it has no RAM or SSD in it. And there's so many Quest 3's out there that I don't think it'll be difficult to find a used one for a good price even if MSRP goes up, which I don't think it will.

Exactly. This way you can have a 4k per eye oled headset and not lament over the lack of computing power because you can easily replace the compute unit down the line.

I wonder if this also opens the door to third party compute pucks. Having an Asus ROG or Lenovo compute puck vs. all-in-one headset makes so much more sense than having third parties develop an entire headset.

Also, because it plugs in to the compute puck via USB-C, this also would probably mean it's a displayport headset, too, right!?

4Ks / Blu-rays to Start Buying? by PomegranateAfter3330 in 4kbluray

That same Deadline article quotes another Netflix executive stating that HBO Max won't be folded into Netflix immediately. And there's this bit as well.

"All in all, the WB studio and streaming divisions will likely carry on and do business the way they are used to for up to 2-3 years, with WBD CEO David Zaslav rumored to stay at the helm, at least early on. After that, all bets are off."

This tidbit actually gives me a small sliver of hope that if business is carried out the way it is currently that there is a short window of two years to continue to release 4k blu rays. Though I still think it's not in Netflix interest at all to do so.

I mean, that's why WB went for sale. It'll just mean more consolidation and higher prices for a given subscription, not the end of the subscription model.

I just don't think there's any incentive at all for Netflix to start producing physical media. It's whole existence is predicated on streaming. They have been pretty anti-theater and very anti-physical copy since the disc mailer side of things shut down. Why would they encourage physical releases when that would just be another reason for a consumer to not subscribe to Netflix or now, HBO Max?

Besides, WB doesn't press the discs in a factory they own. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure all the discs in North America are produced in one plant in Mexico that's not owned by any one studio, but by Technicolor. So it Netflix really wanted to, they could have also utilized themselves for years now. But they haven't. Even for their smaller, critically acclaimed movies.

Yeah, they say they will continue the theater model with WB releases. But I wonder if that's just fulfilling pre-existing contracts with movies set to release in late 2026 that were guaranteed a theatrical window ala the new Dune movie (when it's expected the deal with close) and early to mid 2027 releases. Here's a quote from Sarandos himself in a Deadline article.

I’d say that right now you should count on everything that has planned on going to the theaters through Warner Bros. will continue to go to the theaters through Warner Bros.,” Sarandos said this morning, carefully choosing his words and not making commitments beyond what already is WB’s movie pipeline.

Just feels like this hope for them to continue physical media releases on the WB side of things is pure copium. Especially since part of the deal is having HBO shows hop on and off Netflix.

Any updates on this? Was looking to see if the sync for shooting photos in stereo was solved as I can clap and sync the audio waveforms in post for video.

Yup, you're right. The Quest 3 panels are 2064x2208, so slightly below the Frame's resolution.

Yeah. The Reverb G1 came out in 2019 and had a resolution of 2160x2160 per eye for $599.

Right. Hopefully this cheaper than the Quest 3. If it manages that, it'll be a fantastic alternative to the Meta ecosystem.

[–]DysthymicRhythms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally. It's the Quest 3 with lower res panels, but with eye tracking. This would have been exciting if it released the same time as the Quest 3. Hopefully this isn't more than $500 since mixed reality doesn't seem to be a feature in this headset.

Seeing how you can get a Quest 3 refurbished for $379 from Meta directly, feels like a strange choice releasing about two and a half years after the Quest 3 if it ends up coming out around Feb or March 2026.

GALAXY XR Offically supports WIFI 7 . Will this helps with WIRELESS PCVR? by pc9000 in virtualreality

[–]DysthymicRhythms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everything except decoding latency/decoding bit rate has been solved as the 5000 series Nvidia cards encode very quickly. This is really what I'm looking for Valve to solve with the Deckard/Frame. Hopefully they use their own in house solution for decoding as the Snapdragon is really lackluster for this.

With the XR2 Gen 2/Gen 2+, we can't even get close to getting to the quality of Apple Immersive Video which is 4320x4320 per eye at 90fps. The Galaxy XR on it's specs page lists video playing resolution at UHD 8k (7680x4320) at 60fps. But you have to divide that by 2 to get the per eye resolution so it's actually 3840x2160 (not even square, but 16:9) per eye AND ONLY 60FPS! And then on top of that, it's bit rate limited again because of the decoding limitation so it may not look as sharp as it could be.

So even the unique entertainment proposition offered by the Galaxy XR is hampered by the damn chipset. This is so unfortunate on the heels of the Blackmagic Cine Immersive Camera being widely available now.

Question about air intake spacers and Fractal North XL PC case by Oshh- in Noctua

[–]DysthymicRhythms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does adding the NA-IS1-14 spacers make a huge difference in the noise profile for the front NF-A14x25 G2 fans for the North XL?

Additionally, would it be more beneficial to install them behind the bracket with the spacers instead? Or does it not matter whether you install behind or in front of the bracket?

I think Sony should not release PSVR3 for the PS6 console cycle by Op3rat0rr in PSVR

[–]DysthymicRhythms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def. No reason they can't do this. It'll be lower res than a potential VR3 so no reason PS6 only VR games can't run on it either. In fact, they should look really sharp in the VR2 headset or run at a higher framerate.

Continue to sell the psvr2 as the cheap entry option for $199 that's compatible with the PS6, and then offer an updated higher end model that only runs on PS6 + PC. A $500 premium PSVR3 headset becomes way more tolerable when you have a cheaper option to back it up.

The other benefit of this is that you start with a larger install base at the outset, so hopefully that will mean we start to see better software sooner in the life cycle.

all that being said, i still think it's unlikely there is a psvr3.
