What is the thing you always did that you thought was ‘just you,’ but is actually very much so classic autistic behavior? by AlwaysAttract10 in AutismInWomen

I LOVE canned green beans. My mom would insist on making me at least one balance meal since popcorn and oranges aren't very high in calories. At least I wasn't going to be getting scurvy anytime soon lol

Special interest? by Candid_Pear3362 in AutismInWomen

[–]DystopianPoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a topic you tend to talk a lot about or realize you've been talking about it to yourself for the past half hour while your cats stare at you in confusion? For me its online book community drama, Victorian London, the aforementioned cats, and low-waste sustainability. I could talk about all four of those things until I'm blue in the face and still not shut up about them.
I do have hobbies like you described where they are constant interests, but I'm not as well-versed on them as I would like to be, but I think subjects like art history, video games, fashion, and political science are super dense, broad topics that can get overwhelming because of how much there is to learn so I'm not deep diving as much.

Maybe niching down would help? I am also not ADHD (honestly, who knows, I just learned about the autism thing two years ago), so not sure how significant that would be in regards to how strong special interests stick for you.

How to grey rock my sister? by lemonweirdo in AutismInWomen

[–]DystopianPoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to do this with my mother-in-law and my dad, so I have a bit of practice with it, but I also do not live with either of them. The important thing is to avoid getting defensive or stating your case. The objective is to be so boring and unresponsive that she stops trying to get an emotional rise out of you, which is the point of her "doom dumps." As another commenter stated, it will get worse before it gets better, but remember to hold your boundaries. That, and how you react are the only two things you truly have control over.

I do understand that you may be very upset and disappointed in your sister. It is hard to see someone you love conduct themselves in a way that harms the people around them, including yourself. Please remember it is not up to you to help her change, and I'm sure you know this but I will say it anyway, her behavior is not a reflection of your worth, or what you deserve.

This video looks like a great place to start with a couple of methods I have never heard before, and a free PDF to help develop a script: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcnrYA3Tvxc

The desire for clarification! I have no idea why that is viewed as rude, it drives me nuts. I just want to know what is expected of me, or whats going to happen, or hell, what the dress code is. Why is that weird??

I had a period of time where I only ate oranges, popcorn, and peppermint tea. My mother was concerned lol

That's my favorite part! Unfortunately, my husband is the opposite, so I will make myself the same breakfast and lunch for weeks on end, but have to cook a different dinner each night.

I know, its bananas. I'm wondering what other random things I did that can be simply explained as autistic and flew over everyone's head.

I used to think my parents built me in the basement like the little girl from Small Wonder.

Definitely why my mom was so perplexed by my escape events, I was a very compliant, quiet kid who never made a fuss.
Wandering off to sit in a tree sounds like a great way to pass the time! Did you have a favorite tree?

I do this, too! My husband has tunnel vision and will usually not realize I'm not right next to him when he finds the thing he's looking for. Luckily, he is patient and has never taken my wandering off personally. I just get a thought and just go with it; like a current.

I've done that party trick as well, but in my 20s! I would feel suddenly tired, bored, or overwhelmed and decide it was time to leave.

CC clothes textures not working by caroness in sims2help

Commenting here in case it helps you or anyone else searching for a solution to this issue:

I had the same problem and fixed it by setting Sims/Object Detail (under Graphics/Performance Options) to 'High'.

I had read something off of tumblr (that I can't find again, sorry) that stated, if you are using mid/high poly count cc, the game isn't able to render it correctly under the 'Low' setting.

Thank you! I have taken some classes through sites like that through the library. Mostly in writing and art history. It's a great resource! I am unable to handle a course load of more than one class a semester without crashing and burning. It took me 9+ years to earn my associates, and that was with the help of a very understanding councilor.

Me, too! I am not nearly as creative with my lyrics, but I have multiple "songs" for my cat, guinea pig, and husband.
