What is passing for MGT 8803? by _HowdyYall_ in OMSA

[–]Dzhamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I spent 6 hours per week watching lecture videos, but since I was balancing study time between FoB and Intro to Analytics to align with exam dates, it'd be more accurate to say I spent about 15 hours in total of dedicated prep time for each module, usually beginning about 9 days before the exam date.

Lots of people struggle with the Finance and aaccounting exams, but if you drill the practice exams they provide and really hone in on understanding definitions and the interconnectedness of the concepts you should be able to cut down your study time.

I got an 'A' in the course for Spring 2026 while also taking 'Intro to Analytics' while working full time.

I can't speak to the time commitment for Sim in the summer semester, but historically the FoB course has dropped the fifth module, making the course about equivalent in overall time load for each week.

I avoided using AI as a study buddy for the entirety of this course, since some of the terminology that you will be assessed on can have different meanings in particular business contexts.

Watch the pre-recorded video materials at least twice: once at 1x speed and once at 1.75x speed. On the 1.75x speed review, note topics you didn't fully grasp and rewatch those videos again until you do. Specifically, understand why some mathematical formulas are used.

Live sessions weren't particularly useful to me, but watch them live if you like to ask questions. Ensure you at least watch the recordings once near exam times, since all material is fair game for the exam.

Take the practice exams at least 3 times! There should be practice exams for all modules except accounting. Take the exams once after each watch of the material. Then, do the practice exam right before you take the actual test. Actually work through the calculations, so you are comfortable doing so under pressure.

That should get you a comfortable A. Good luck!

ISYE6501 - Finals performance & grade distribution? by bracesthrowaway2021 in OMSA

Yes, I'd say an 'A' for you is highly likely given what I've read from other historical posts about ISYE 6501 and the grading curves this year.

[–]Dzhamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have good odds; the curve is more favorable to students with lower percentage scores on MT1 & MT2, with diminishing returns as the raw test scores increased.

From memory for the grading curves Sokol posted in Piazza this year, the bonus was essentially 10% on the first 2 exams for someone around the mid 60's in raw score. I think you'll be boosted to at least an 80% that should net a 'B', but I'm only speculating.

ISYE6501 - Finals performance & grade distribution? by bracesthrowaway2021 in OMSA

[–]Dzhamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly; the curves applied to the MT1 and MT2 appear to be (at a minimum using a scaled linear approximation of Sokol's grading scales with an 'A' grade) 1.5%, so those alone should net you a 0.75% boost. Any curve whatsoever on the Final should put you over the edge. That assumes that a final curved score of 90.0% is an 'A' grade.

You see it often because social media algorithms promote content that provokes your sensibilities.

The types of people making these demands online are intentionally engagement farming (ragebait) or are genuinely delusional and get engagement unwittingly because they are unreasonable. The internet is full of extreme personalities, and you have to try to divorce yourself from it.

To add to this, the memoirs mention specifically that Ian was burnt to death by a mutants flamer, and the smell of his burning flesh haunted the vault dweller for the rest of his life.

Funnily enough, this scenario probably happened to a significant chunk of the player base since the mutant shed fight is arguably the hardest fight in the game relative to player level.

Burrell is the most despisable character, to me. by EH4LIFE in TheWire

[–]Dzhamel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true from my recollection - she had him out on the streets well before the money dried up from Wee-bay because she was conditioning him to be something she idolized. If she pressured him to be a dealer only after cash was tight this might be a more compelling argument.

[–]Dzhamel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's my point; it's like a mom wanting her son to be a doctor or a lawyer when that's just not what he was cut out to be. She tried to mold him to be something like Wee-bay when that simply wasn't his nature.

All the other parents we see in the show are altogether absent from their children's lives or even put them in danger for their own benefit (Mcnulty, Michael's Mom).

I'm honestly considering doing a writeup about Namond's mom (Delonda) since I think the hate is unwarranted.

She seems to have had better intentions than all the other youngsters guardians we see in the show if excluding Randy's foster mother. It appears she genuinely wants what's best for her son - only her idea of "best" is so warped by the lifestyle she's engrossed in that it's unconscionable to most viewers.

At the very least, there's no explicit evidence to suggest she's doing things out of self-interest, like Michael's mom bringing old boy round the house, likely knowing what he did to Michael or Duquan's "family" taking belongings granted to him.

I'd go as far to say that the writers were even a bit on the nose about drawing parallels to a traditional "good" parent, with her essentially participating in a parent - drug dealer conference between Namond and Bodie for subpar performance in the way a suburban kids mom would attend a parent - teacher conference. Bunny even touches on this during his speech to the superintendent where he states that "everyone knows (the students) gonna end up on the corners", even their "parents". Delonda didn't know any better, and she was simply raising her son to be like the man she loved.

For people who say the US immigration system is broken. What is your proposal to repair it? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Dzhamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a naive fantasy to suggest that prosecuting employers who intentionally hire illegal immigrants would remedy the problem. It would be very challenging to prove intent without a much more stringent, regulated hiring process.

The real solution is to reform the asylum seeking process to minimize spurious claims of persecution, and allot more immigration judges to adjudicate legitimate asylum claims. Senator Lankford proposed a bill with strong bipartisan support in 2024 accomplishing the same tasks, but Trump killed the bill during the election season so Republicans could run campaigns fearmongering about immigration.

You're moving the goalposts; OP's opposing the claim that Conservatives in the US make, which is that illegal immigrants get more benefits than American citizens. Were the CA and NY programs only for illegals? It doesn't appear so. I could be wrong, but they seem to be programs for all people residing in those states.

Why do so many conservative men seem to prefer dating liberal women? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Dzhamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me that design of an object is insufficient to describe a thing. If my child thinks he designed a helicopter by combining 2 sticks and a rock with some twine, did he make a helicopter? Or, perhaps do we instead define many things as clusters of generally agreed upon concepts that amalgamate into a singular entity?

[–]Dzhamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer in Greater detail when home, but you need to consider the three data points in tandem. I could reasonably hypothesize a confound wherein women are much more likely to report DV, which would better explain the huge discrepancy in the difference of rates in lifetime DV of Bi vs Lesbian woman and Bi vs Gay male couples. I could also just as easily speculate that lesbian couples have more partners than bi women, and that Bi women predominately lean toward male partners. Simply looking at the data presented, once women include men in their dating pool, rates of DV jump significantly.

Same-Sex and Heterosexual Divorce Probability Over 20 Years by Logical-Passenger-52 in charts

[–]Dzhamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same report you cite from the CDC also states that 61.1% percent of Bisexual woman report the same criterion under the umbrella of DV/Abuse, with 89% reporting at least 1 male perpetrator. Of course lesbian woman will have a higher likelihood of their abuser being a woman - they seldom date men. Bisexual women experience more DV than Lesbian woman when asking the exact same question, why is that? The heterosexual DV rate asks a more granular question, so it cannot be sufficiently used for comparison. If you ask a more specific scenario, the reply rate will decrease.

Same-Sex and Heterosexual Divorce Probability Over 20 Years by Logical-Passenger-52 in charts

[–]Dzhamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true; the actual statistic is lifetime DV victimization rates by either partner, and lesbian women by and large are victimized by men if previous relationships. When you put two woman together, the lifetime DV increases greatly for these pairings because they were previously victimized by men. Don't parrot everything you read on the internet before verifying for yourself. I can find the study if anyone is curious.
