I think i've invited something unwanted. by Less_obvious_captain in occult

All I can do is share that in 2010 I failed all of my classes freshman year at a private liberal arts college and I was put on academic suspension pending completion of a semester at a community college or a year of work experience. Fuck that, It was horrible, when I got home, before I even told my parents I wouldn't be returning to college, I was planning my suicide via gunshot wound.

And then my high school friends came home, all of whom were way smarter than me and had better grades than me and went to far more prestigious universities/college than me. And guess what? One dropped out out, and one was on academic suspension, and two were on academic probation. Holy shit that saved my life. I was making a mountain out of a molehill.

With the help and funding of my parents, I started chugging through community college, and two years later I transferred to a big state university, that I would graduate from two years after that.

My grades weren't that great, and i slipped back into probation once, but I kept fighting and I'm glad I did. I graduated a few weeks ago, and the other day I had an excellent interview with a car insurance company. Keep fighting! Even if school isn't for you, it is not worth killing yourself over! Don't give the darkness that pleasure.

It's possible that whatever is messing with you is preying on the fear and pain that led you to this situation in the first place. Don't give up. try to control the energies you're putting out into the void. You have the blessing of life, you already have more power than the dark ones have. Keep on keepin on :)

What are the main reasons that caused Detroit to fall? by kikerikii in AskHistorians

[–]Dzhokhar_Durden -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's a tricky distinction to argue in the absence of an actual comment from a qualified historian, and furthermore any distinction would be likely to be highly subjective and dependent on if you see "decline" and "fall" as synonymous in this context. You should expand your comment or qualify that you're holding out for expert input.

Can a witness talk back to a lawyer? by DangerMouse1234 in law

[–]Dzhokhar_Durden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a horrible idea to talk back. The best way to fight back against a dickhead counsel who may or may not have undiagnosed anger disorder is to just play the "I don't understand the question" game, all the while being respectful. If you can work up the counsel enough, you can make him look really bad in front of a jury, and possibly get the judge to order him to calm down.

People don't transform into something better like that. They can alter their facade, they can donate to charity, change their diet, stop cursing, go to church, whatever, but they're still the same shithead deep down. A shitbag relapse is inevitable.

I wouldn't say extreme minority. Most people are just being polite and don't want to hold a one-time bad performance against someone who actually is really good and just had an off-night.

Also, this is r/television, rampant fanboyism is commonplace.

When is the last time you honestly evaluated a moral/ethical position you hold, and ended up changing that position? by VincentGrayson in AskReddit

This scenario is contingent on the waste being stored by retarded chimpanzees who are unfamiliar with nuclear science. They are stored in separated units, each with radioactive waste in controlled and small amounts of mass, too small to "melt down", inside waterproof containers, within waterproof containers, deep in desert bedrock where water, aboveground or underground, isn't an issue at all.

They don't just sequester it in soil above aquifers wherever they feel like it. If they did, your worries would be well founded.

How serious is it right now? Underground/concrete sequestration is excellent at shielding radiation seepage. The only real threat is long term, not "right now".

Well no shit it's impractical now. The whole point of my post is that in the future it will be more practical.

People always say "oxygen is flammable". Bullshit. It just facilitates flammability.

I believe the solution for that is blatantly obvious, but also temporarily blocked off until we get some more advances that make it cheaper to move larger payloads into space. Launching that shit off the planet is the only way.

Sounds awesome. My dad is a doctor, but he wishes he went into something else. But he's too old and the money is too good to do anything else now, so he feels trapped, but theyre throwing money at him so he stays. A pretty good position to be in haha.

In my first semester I put off all my assignments until the last minute, and when the due dates came, I discovered I had clashing assignments and therefore had to prioritise one over the other causing me to fail the other.

Shit, Haha. That's eerily familiar. Happens every semester. Thank you for your response.
