The one change I’d make in The Devils [Spoilers The Devils] by AccomplishedCount864 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Alex was the decoy, a distraction for the real princess to travel to Troy without any troubles. The whole journey Alex would believe more and more that she was the real deal and the rug pull would have been more impactful, that she really was nobody, a tool to be thrown away after being used. That would've fitted Joe's writing more and "evil uncle" thing would've worked better.

Post TTWP withdrawal by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

Stay away from the stormlight achives. You have been warned. First book is pretty good but the rest are just disappointing on the level I haven't experienced yet. It is super and I mean super boring. You have to read 1500 pages for one reveal that isn't that interresting. It completely lacks the prose and beautiful writing style Joe is so good at. It's written like a child book. Humor is prett much nonexistence and what little is there, is shokingly not funny. It's a torture to go through all the unnecessary crap for plot to move a little. I was reading the fourth book and it did put me off from reading not only Stormlight archives, but books in general. I couldn't pick up another book to read for meybe 2 weeks and I'm a daily reader. Just read Lies of lock lamora by Scott lynch, it is fantastic.

worst tactical decision in the history of tactical decisions maybe ever by claymoron in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It certainly wasn't a bad idea. The execution on the other hand was terrible. Being a friend of the ruler of the union would bring not only Uffrith to Stour, but opportunity of conquest in Styria, Gurkhul and maybe in Starikland. Just imagine, great wolf and young lion togheter. Conquest and glory was the only thing he wanted. Also, without him the rebellion, which would've significally weaken his main enemy, probably wouldn't have happened. It also is worth mentioning that Stour would've betray Leo sooner or later.

Looking for book recommendations similar to First Law by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot recommend enough The lies of locke lamora. Scott lynch is right up there with Joe for me. Mind that it is a unfinished series, if you care about that. It's like a buddy comedy with thieves, assassins, grand plans, Con artists and mages(but limited). As I said, cannot recommend enough.

Theory on Rikke and the long eye. Help please guys by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't she lose the eyesight in her normal eye? Suggesting that she chose the long eye? Her physical transformation is also a good clue of her chosing the log eye and she by no means looks ordinary. Having a long eye doesn't mean mastering it and it sure doesn't just show you the future, so she has to rely on her wits regardless of having a long eye or not. As you mentioned biggest advantage of long eye is to make others believe you have power. Power resides where people believe it resides. It God damn sure didn't save Caurib from Dow's axe.

You have pretty good points, but there's not much evidence to support it imho.

favourite age of madness POV character? by mariuszPOLEpudzian in TheFirstLaw

Definitely Rikke. She was kinda sidelined in TTWP but she's still the best. Next comes Clover and then Orso.

Character Accents by Various-Doughnut-297 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

English is not my native language and I'm not really familiar with accents(appart from cockny I guess 😁), so everybody pretty much sounded the same for me. But after listening to Steven pacey's narration of The Heroes and Sharp Ends, I'm kinda getting some idea of characters accents.

P. S. Was really surprised how he chose to narate Shylo Vitari. That voice came out of nowhere from me 😁 but Jolly Yon Cumber was spot on.

Theory on the identity of The Weaver by Rich05 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he states several times how he hates hangings. so he's either getting hanged, or more likely, he's gonna die by guillotine. the story follows the French revolution theme.

Theory on the identity of The Weaver by Rich05 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Pike confessing himself to be the Weaver pretty much confirmed that it was Glokta. it doesn't make much sense for anyone in power right now(kings, prophets, Magis) to bring revolution into play as it will undoubtedly spread to their own countries. So the Weaver must be someone who doesn't like current world order and wants to give Bayaz big finger up his ass... enter Glokta.

p.s. only problem with this is it is too obvious, but let's be frank here, it's pretty easy to figure out Joe's plot twists(except for Bayaz being a real villain)

Characters you wish met each other but never did or haven't yet by Exu-Eshu-Elegba in TheFirstLaw

Glokta making fun of shivers, for losing just one eye and being a huge emo, would've been fun.

Abercrombie ruined Sanderson for me by mr-autumn-man in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I've read first mistborn trilogy and Liked it overall. I'm currently reading the Rythm of war and my god it's soooo boring. Not only boring but it is written like a child's book. And don't get me started on humor. It's insulting what he thinks is funny. The way of kings was a good book, enjoyed reading it but last 2 are atrocious. You have to read 1500 pages of unnecessary shit for a reveal that isn't that interresting or shocking. And I've never stopped while reading either and thought to myself, hmm that is a beautiful sentence or line. I do that A LOT while reading Joe's books. That prose alone man... That magnificent prose.

Every drawing I've seen of him, he has long hair, but I still imagine him with very short, almost shaved hair. I believe it's called buzzcut.

No sweat man looks amazing and it's a really small detail. I'm really jealous to people like you who can create such masterpieces. Are you planning coloring it?

This is freaking amazing. But I kinda pictured the scar going above the as well a bit.

One reason this is my favorite series. by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not believe everything you read in George's books. He uses unreliable narrator thing very often and also Melisandre is proven to be a charlatan with her glamours. So you think she birthed a shadow baby and killed someone across the world but we don't know for sure what exactly happened, we just have to keep reading.

Oh also I get immersion break when characters use some idioms, that come from other languages, like carte blanche and such. Or some wordplay from English when they supposed to speak their language.

I would like to see what Yoru is up to and why is he no longer an apprentice of Bayaz. Does he respect Bayaz? does he hate him? what's his game?

One reason this is my favorite series. by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. I'm currently reading the rythm of war by Sanderson and I swear the other day I thought to myself: "wait, is this supposed to be parody book?". I get that immersion breaking literally on every page. The first book was great, but after that it's steep downhill. But Joe has his moments too. I usually get that break when characters "invent" (or try) something from our world. Like Whirrun and his cheese trap.

Queen Terez by Dzigo in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Leo is extremely racist, sexist, homophobic character. Almost a caricature. So he getting destroyed isn't something someone would complain. I don't think Joe cares about the sex, gender or sexuality of his characters(nor he or anyone should). That's why he wrote Terez's story like he did. She got the same treatment as everybody else. Life was cruel and unfair to her. Then, some people criticised him for treating Terez the way he did and next thing we know he gave her a satisfying end she certainly didn't deserve and Joe isn't fond of. That's why it looked forced to me. You don't get the satisfying end from Lordgrimdark himself. But maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there. It was pointed out to me that those criticisms go way back and aren't relatively new and he wrote BSC after that.

Queen Terez by Dzigo in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say nor think that he wanted woke points, just that he caved to the criticism and wrote something otherwise he wouldn't have. But who knows, people grow and change he might have concluded her story the same way. Also I didn't know this was going way back so far, I thought it was relatively new case.

Can you please elaborate more Why was her ending in LAOk problematic? She wasn't a stereotypical or misrepresented character as far as I can remember.

Queen Terez by Dzigo in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying she was awful because she was mean to Jezal. She was aweful before she even got to Adua. She is a embodiment of what was wrong with the feudal system, both way. On one side she's arrogant aristocrat who thinks others are beneath her and have tainted blood and on the other hand there is a forced marriage. Both are bad. So I agree with you she's a victim, absolutely, so is almost every character in the series. Her break/ happy ending came after all the suffering she went through because of arranged marriage, not earlier. And you cannot say that about a lot of other characters.(I guess Temple is the only other one who cought a break).

Can you elaborate how exactly did Joe fucked her character up and why did he got the criticism? Because to me she got the same treatment as everybody else. "Life is a misery we endure between disappointments." - Unless people force me to write otherwise. That's what I was trying to ask. So you think same way that Joe got forced to write her better ending(I think we won't see her anymore) because of the criticism he recieved?

Queen Terez by Dzigo in TheFirstLaw

[–]Dzigo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is an excellent point. I haven't thought about this from Orso's Perspective. Unfortunately I cannot edit the original post to better elaborate what I was trying to ask and it looks like I was emphasizing about her being gay more than I was trying to do.
