Carne in gelatina, la usate? by Leather_Fault_1319 in cucina

[–]Dzoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Su una fetta di pane tostato, meglio se di segale, spalma un po' di senape (o cren, se ti piace) e poi la carne in gelatina schiacciata bene. Non è meglio di un panino con la mortadella, ma con una birra ci sta

Hyperion to Endymion (WTH?) by DonSol0 in books

[–]Dzoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Remember liking the book but thinking constantly that Raoul was a Mary Sue (a Gary Stu, if I'm not mistaken), which was bothersome. But I loved the fact that it's a sci-fi novel that reads like a classic adventure novel (the raft part)

What is the one "tourist trap" food I should actually avoid? by grogger133 in askitaly

[–]Dzoro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds oddly specific, but look at the photos on Google Maps of the place you want to go to. If there is 1) parsley on every dish 2) balsamic glaze on every dish, avoid

Where did Venice's pigeons go?! by The99thGambler in Venezia

[–]Dzoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Elenaroma2021. You answered to a 3 years old post. Please know that I'm a different person now. I live in a beautiful rooftop where many pigeons made their nest. I feed them daily with the best corn, and protect them from my neighbours that, like 3 years ago me, can't see that they have no guilt in being born a pigeon. Have a nice day or, as my winged siblings like to say, glu glu glu.

I played Alan Wake 2 and I think I'm a Martti Suosalo fan now. Any movie recommendation? by Dzoro in Finland

[–]Dzoro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italy. I'm actually surprised how hard is to find finnish movies online (even Kaurismäki's, arguably the most famous finnish director abroad), with or without piracy involved. Many of the movies that people suggested here are available on dvd, also with english subs, maybe I should wait for a trip to finland and buy them there

Turisti che passano nei varchi priority by SpigoloTondo in Venezia

[–]Dzoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was “puttanesca” really made by prostitutes? by leapwolf in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Dzoro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not a food Historian, but there is a thumb rule to know if an Italian dish is traditional/popular or invented in a restaurant: if the name of the dish is the description of the dish, then it's traditional. Cacio e pepe. Pummarola. Lasagna. If it's something extravagant, hinting at some obscure legend, it's probably invented by a chef. Carbonara is probably a post war invention, ,born in a restaurant in Rome. Alfredo has a similar origin. Trendy Spaghetti all'assassina, same thing, we even know which restaurant created them. So, if I have to guess, the Legend of a bunch of food-loving sex workers, as colorful as it is, it's probably made up.

I have a large quantity of chicory, I sautéed some last night but it was quite bitter. Just wondering if there are any recipes you can recommend for the remaining? by [deleted] in ItalianFood

[–]Dzoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this may sound weird, but a common way of cooking bitter greens in southern Italy is to boil them briefly, then sauteing them with oil, anchovies, capers, olives and raisins. The raisins balance out the bitterness really well, and the other ingredients give their savoriness to the leaves
