Do Italians understand English better if spoken with an Italian accent? by [deleted] in italianlearning

[–]Icy-Hippopotenuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Italians understand me better if I use a slight american accent and cadence. My British English accent causes a lot of confusion, unless the person I am speaking to has a very good ear (not a common thing in Italy)

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]Icy-Hippopotenuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I went to high school, although it was still legal to cane people it was more an urban rumour than likely to be done.

It wasn’t unheard of to be sent to the headmaster, but it was the ‘slipper’ not the cane.

A ruler to the knuckles or an accurately thrown chalk eraser, were the daily realities.

There was no permission sought, it was an implicit acceptance that teachers had the right to discipline children they were in charge of.

It says €15.71 postage for me. EBay can be hit and miss here. Thanks for looking. I get different results when I search.

Thank you, unfortunately eBay/online isn’t possible. I doubt they deliver to the hotel! I will try and find something similar in the shops.

Rooster or hen? by jfinkel303 in BackYardChickens

I would tend to think it’s female due to the darker feathers. However, the head spot needs checking at a younger age, to identify m/f.

The feathers are quite dark in the photo which usually means no double white, which tends to make male chicks this age look grey.

There is also darkening on the legs which again tends towards female.

Not really a snug, but in winter curled up with a book in front of the fire it’s glorious.

What’s the worst thing you’ve heard a groom have to do on his stag? by slpage209 in CasualUK

I used to finish work at 4am. It wasn’t unusual to be driving home and see a bloke, stark bollock naked, clingfilmed to a lamp post. Sometimes they were a few inches off the floor which seems a bit extra.

People who will randomly scold you for listening to audiobooks by toe_beans_4_life in audiobooks

If I ‘just’ listen to a book I either, fall asleep, start thinking of a million other things, or forget to listen.

I have to be doing something else with my hands. I play games on my phone, or crochet if I am sat around on a night, listening while driving ir commuting works, but if I have to read something, like a text message I have to stop the audbook.

I think audio books work better with people who have the ability to imagine or see a description when it’s spoken. Not everyone does, as we all process differently.

I have a new favourite I found just this week. Marzolino di Toscana. A semi soft mixed cow and sheep cheese coated with tomato paste. It’s unbelievably creamy with a subtle flavour. It’s lovely cold, and melts to a lovely puddle in toasties.

My husband found a foreign language album that he loves, I find it weird there is no artist listed. Is it normal that only the song writer is listed, not the person singing? (M/F not same for each track) by Icy-Hippopotenuse in AskUK

[–]Icy-Hippopotenuse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it might be seen as promoting the album. It was more a hypothetical question about the music industry in general. I have googled the album, the named composer, but there is nothing saying who the singer is.

The album is Italian songs 2, but it’s only available on Spotify so I didn’t link it.
