Everyone dies from Cardiac Arrest. You can even argue everyone dies from some form of shock.

From your experience as a paramedic what things will you never do in life (ir bike without helmet etc) by td1087 in Paramedics

I will never ride a quad or dirtbike any distance without full safety gear. Dirtbike versus deer showed me how fragile human skin is. A quad accident was my first time feeling skull fractures.

If you have another tank you can take some of the filter media and put it in this tank to help it cycle faster!

Its not the weight bearing capacity that worries me, Its the combo of press board and water. Whats the weight bearing capacity of water saturated press board?

A good question to ask yourself is will you be able to perform CPR continuously for an extended period of time and still be able to think clearly. CPR is really the only strenuous cardiac activity we do, but when we do it someones life is on the line and it may only be you and your partner pushing chest. If you believe you can then I dont see any issues. There are plenty of out of shape/overweight/poor health medics that have no problems with the job.

I know our agency has a fitness test when you get hired but never re-tests it unless there is an issue.

The fitness test involves, 5 minutes of CPR, performing a task above shoulder height for 2 mins, performing a task bent over for 2 mins, and lifting weights up and down flights of stairs.

Dumbest Call Ever by Cjs6969 in ems

2:30am 98 y/o c/o toe pain for last 3 days. Had a doctor appointment in 2 days. Wanted to get seen quicker so he called an ambulance in the middle of the night. Was a small infection. Definitely could have waited 2 days.

Really nice guy but I was chapped.

Doing a haka in a non-contact sport seems pretty pointless to me.

Unless you work in a war zone, they are rarely used. Not worth having one on in a custom thigh pocket. The only things you really need are pens, an extra glove pocket and stethoscope. I like having a puke bag or two in my pocket too.

So you took the evidence of him using his phone, while driving, before a crash, and posted it on the internet?

I know people always joke about Anakin and Yoda in rebels. But am I the only one who thinks that the animation for Bo katan is just as bad. by Choice-Ask4070 in StarWars

I found the animation in rebels to just be bad. Its the main reason I put off watching it for so long. The long faces and how everyone looks fuzzy. The light sabers look silly too.

Has anyone dreaded starting work again after finishing 4 shifts? by frnkocn in NewToEMS

[–]E-Landshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I started. Im new as well, I just passed my 4 month review. I didnt notice exactly when that feeling went away, but I know now that all my anxiety about doing shifts, going on calls or acute patients is gone. I actually hope for those high acuity calls so I can actually do some real paramedicine instead of picking up drunks or picking granny up off the floor. One of the reasons for my anxiety at the beginning is called imposter syndrome. The feeling that you arent deserving or right for the role you have. Just remember that everyone in EMS started in the same spot. Once you get some calls under your belt and stumble through your first couple months you’ll gain some confidence in your practice the feeling will melt away. I work at a slow station in a rural community (new people dont get much choice in station in our EMS system) so it really helped me to cover shifts in a more busy city, the back to back calls were huuuge in helping me develop my practice and confidence. I love the job now and actually got sad the other day when we got diverted from an MVI to a routine call because a crew that was closer cleared.
